Horrible back pain @ 6 weeks! GHOST or anyone???

Post by baby_blu73 »

I just got my BFP towards the end of last month and this past week has been rough! First, I should mention my RE's office invited me to test out some new u/s equipment last week (I'm not due for my official 1st u/s until next Wednesday) and they saw that both embryos have implanted and look to be equal in size and at the top of the fundus. Otherwise, I may feel as though this were possibly an ectopic situation...

The nausea I was anticipating, but I'm having lower back pain that is out of this world at times! Sharp, pinching pains in the lower left side directly above my rump that are especially bad when I've been sitting or laying for any period of time. It hurts too much to walk every once and again.

My question is whether this is something that can be considered "normal" and, if so, what the heck is causing it??? I have been debating on whether to contact RE's office again. When it started they said "Tylenol and heating pad 15 min on, 15 min off, repeat" which I feel is reasonable, but ineffective. I'm miserable.

Any thoughts or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Baby... you *might* be experiencing round ligament pain.... the key is that it's when you are sitting or laying... and the pain is when you go to move, right???? It very well may be round ligament pain... the hormones going through your body are 'softening' your muscles and ligaments in order to make room for the growing uterus and shifting of internals...

I started having this around 5 weeks, although mine are directly in the front of my abdomen and lower stomach. The pains are not cramping, right? Do they happen when you move? I know mine are to the point that they stop me in my tracks when I move a certain way... and I have to wait for them to pass.

Yeah, that's exactly right! Except mine are at the base of my tailbone and sometimes a little higher and a little left of the spine. I bent down to take my sock off the other night and felt like I had been stabbed  I thought it may have been a pulled muscle from falling last Tuesday, but it's getting worse and the fall wasn't jarring, it was actually a pretty smooth (if being a total klutz can ever be referred to as smooth  ) landing.

If I'm sitting or laying on the couch in particular for any amount of time, then I get up and try to move or walk... These pains are almost crippling at times for me, too. I read it may have something to do with progesterone and that makes sense being on 600 mg of it and it's vaginally inserted.

It's just scary because I never had so much pain this early in a pregnancy. I did have back labor with my last delivery, almost ten years ago. My son insisted on being face up and they said periods would be a lot more painful (my cramps would be in my back I would say every three months, VERY painful). I wonder if that could possibly be a contributing factor, as well.

Thanks, Sonya! I feel better that it's not something terribly wrong. I hope your ligament pain subsides soon so you can just enjoy your pregnancy. :D

I've heard that about the progesterone as well... but I've been on it countless times before and never, ever experienced this. Not once. I had horrid back labor with my last delivery as well (20 years ago) and he was also face up (bugger!). But I've been pregnant since (miscarriages) and had the progesterone... not once with the RPL.

Baby_blu73 – I think you are experiencing sciatic nerve pain. It happens a lot during pregnancy because your uterus is growing and expanding and pushing on the nerve. I had the same thing each time that I have been pregnant (early – right around the time that you are in your pregnancy) and I had to literally sit with a pillow behind me because I was in so much pain. A heating pad also helped but if it really concerns you, it never hurts to just let your RE know. The good news is that the pain did ease as my pregnancy progressed so hopefully, it will happen to you also.
