I am getting ready for my next IVF cycle and my RE has recommended that we transfer 3 embryos and consider selective reduction if all 3 take. I am not totally comfortable with selective reduction for multiple reasons. I know that ultimately all of this is up to me and my husband and not the RE's recommendation.
Has anyone else had this recommendation from their RE?

Summit I too have heard the same speech and DH and I are pro life. Against better judgment during our last FET we transferred 3 and and were told that selective reduction should be considered if all take. DH and I decided to cross that bridge if we got there. Unfortunately none took and we got a bfn
I think RE's say this as a caution but for us IVF girls we know triplets are extremely rare.
Good luck to you

I agree with Anna, we transfered 4 the first time and one took, 3 the second time and I had an ectopic and now we transfered 4 and 2 took. I believe that this is something you should worry about if indeed you cross that bridge and not before. 3 is not some crazy high number. It all depends on age and other factors too.

Summit - odds of triplets are probably pretty low.. do you do 3dt or 5dt? In my humble opinion, if you are doing a 3dt, then wait them out till 5 days and they reach blast stage. Then transfer 2. If they make it to blast they should be strong embroy's. I know a lot of people say that the embryo's are better off in you, but lots of doctors are thinking differently. If the lab is good they should be able to culture to 5 days. Thus you only transferring 2 and the odds of triplets are less. After going through so many years of TTC i know I wouldn't want to be faced with the decision to use selective reduction. other ideas may be to do chromosone testing on the embryo's before transferring this can help your odds of transferring fewer eggs but hopefully they will be the right eggs.
Good Luck on your decision.

I had transferred 3 3day embryos. I am preggo with a singleton. I did get the speech from my RE about reduction also. I was not very happy to discuss reduction but I figured with my history and age to have all 3 stick would be pretty unlikely. Twins I figured would be a good chance though, which I mentally prepared myself for. It is scary thought especially when we are here to have babies and not reduce them. Good luck with your decision

I was told the same thing by me RE after we decided to put in all 4 embies. She called it "Fetal Reduction" though which makes it sound worse. I have yet to find out if any took, and like others..we will just have to wait and see.
Rio...how many dpo until you got bfp's with your pregnancies?
CShell - believe it or not I never POAS until this one, it was BFP on HPT at 11dpo, I did not test at 10dpo and at 9dpo it was negative, but from seeing other people 11dpo is early.
Thanks for all of the great feedback! Hearing everyone's experience certainly helps.
To-have-fun:
I am usually a day 3 transfer b/c we have had significant fragmentation in the majority of of our embryos. We will see what happens in January.
