Baby - what was the increase to this beta? I just saw that we both have Male fertility issues.

When I had my beta hell, I waited too long to take the methotraxate and my beta was already in the 890s. My suggestion is to take the shot once you are aboslutely positive this is what you want to do. In my case, my betas never stopped growing it was just going up and up but abnormally. It took me a while to get my beta back to 0, I think 5 weeks or more. So if the shot is what you choose, do it soon so you can have an end in sight. Be aware that you should be tested for your beta every week. Also, stop taking your prenatals, my OB did not know this neither my RE but folic acid is an antagonist (maybe not the right term) and will minimize the effects of the drug. Also, I did not believe them when they said I could try again on my next period. You should wait 3 months for each shot, if you take two shots 6 mos. It should only take one. You need to replenish your folic acid before you try again. I took double the folic acid for about 3 months, FDA had guidelines. I did not chose to wait because like I said my #s were not coming down and I did not want to wait forever knowing it was not a viable baby, it is really hard either way.

Yes, its male fertility issiue, this cycle DH had TESE done.

My biggest mtx concerns is I will have to wait for 3 months to start another cycle, I cant... I just cant!

Since my hcg level is 563, doubling time is 110.83, (the rise is getting slower and slower) hopefully my beta will be down to 0 naturally in 4/5 weeks...and I will be able to do another cycle....that is possible, right???

I'm sorry to just chime in now. I've been following this post from the beginning. I can't tell you baby, how much i feel for you right now. I went through a very similar situation on my second round of IVF. We got our positive and we were thrilled...I think our first beta was 125...so, a nice strong number. But every beta after that just did not grow appropriately. There was a whole ectopic scare because we couldn't see anything in the uterus. Eventually though, we did see an empty sac in the uterus.

My doctor was very hesitant to rush to the methotrexate shot...even when there was concern of ectopic. He kept holding out to see if there was anything in the uterus...even did a uterine biopsy to confirm it (very painful). In the end I took misoprostol...4 pills, vaginal suppositories. They caused contractions in the uterus so everything would be expelled. I started bleeding and cramping within hours of taking them. It was a quick and easy process. It did however, take a few weeks for my beta to come down to 0 . There was no concern of waiting months to try a new cycle because I avoided the methotrexate. My next cycle, a frozen transfer, we got our positive. My baby girl just turned 1!!!

I share my story because I want you to know that there is another option to the methotrexate shot. Unless your doc has real concerns that this is an ectopic, perhaps you may want to ask him about this option.

ST- I cant tell you how much I appreciate you sharing your story. I am still very hesitant regarding mtx and will def. explore misoprostol. I dont think RE had any concern regrading ectopic.

Oh, Baby: I am so deeply sorry for your loss after all this struggle. It is terribly sad. You are in my prayers. Please realize that I am feeling a part of your pain.

I cannot advise you on what to do hon. That is a very personal decision. I can share my experience and you can take of it what you will. This summer, I experienced beta Hell. (I didn't share before because it wasn't a "happy" ending). My betas rose, but not appropriately. On u/s we saw a sac and fetal pole, but no HB. I still had hope--but to no avail. Next u/s did not show growth and still no HB. So I stopped meds and waited for m/c on my own. I wish I remember how long it took, but it wasn't too very long--for me. It took a while to grieve as it was a bigger loss than a BFN, both physically and emotionally. I needed to switch doctors as well--so I set an appt up as soon as possible which was about 5-6 weeks after the m/c. I was able to start again my next cycle which was just about 8 weeks from my m/c. I didn't require intervention for my beta to drop back down--but not everyone is the same. I know that some women struggle without intervention--be it metho or otherwise. I had to have metho with my ectopic, but that was an unusual case, so I won't recount it as it isn't relevant.

Talk with your RE. Talk with your DH. Get all the information you can. Look within. See what feels "right for you". Best of luck--and remember, you WILL be a mother someday. (((((HUGS))))

After I miscarried and then started feeling better, I realized that I was not ready to start again right away anyway. Just allow yourself some time to regroup and grieve. You'll start to feel better as the days pass. I know it's not an easy time. Big big hugs!

Ladies, thanks a lot for sharing your stories and experiences with me. I really really appreciate it!!

We were planning to go out of town for New Years, but my HCG kept rising. On 30th my HCG was 1500. RE called and said that its best we go with MTX because its def. ectopic pregnancy,since they could not see anything in the uterus, I could not have waited for natural miscarriage. So 30th Nov evening I took the injection. It was one of the worse day of my life.On 31 night I had terrible stomach ache on the right side. We rush to the ER, they did u/s but could not see anything. Came back home the next morning.
I feel much better today HCG is down to 500. I didn't want to take MTX injection because I would have to wait for 3 months. But now I have no choice, will just have to be patient. I cant wait for my HCG to be back to zero.
We have two frozen embryos, we will probably do FET in April.
I am very optimist about 2011, this is going to be the best year EVER for all of us!!!

I am not sure why they say 3 months, probably so that your body can replenish the FA. But check with your doctor, I don't know if doing ET after 3 mos is ok.

Oh baby! I'm just back from vacation and am so sorry to return to such frustrating news! I'm glad that you are staying optimistic and patient (neither or those two are strong suits for me!). 2011 is gonna be your year! While you wait come hang with us in the winter group, lots of fun there!

This is the first time I understood the phase " Never say never" I was so adamant that I dont want to take MTX, but guess whatever happened happened for the best.
Thanks for the advice about FA, my hcg was 500 from 1300 in 2 days and have another beta tomorrow.Hopefully its in double digits.
Do you think I should wait longer before FET?
