Carol- Jerusalem is a pretty unique place to live! My daily commute to work takes me past the Old City - I see the Al-Aqsa mosque (the famous one on the Temple Mount with the gold dome) everyday! Totally weird for a girl from a hick town! Come visit - I'll tell you all the best places! (also, your last RE sounds like a jerk - ugh, I'm sorry - this is hard enough even with the nicest doctor in the world)

Lou - I'm glad you are feeling positive. 2011 has to be a better year. Karaoke is awesome! I'm glad you had fun at your NY party!

Rio - you are welcome! Thanks for keeping me "sane" too! We do deserve a vacation - we haven't taken one since we started IVF 2 years ago! How crazy is that? and you are totally normal for missing your twin.... I love my embryos the minute I know they exist, even if only a doctor's phone call of how many we have.... once that embryos becomes a pregnancy - I love it even more... losing a pregnancy is awful, even if you remain pregnant with another baby.

Ester - shall I add you to the list? What is your next step? I really hope things go really well for both of us this year, we really deserve it

Kari- I'm so sorry you are in beta hell. Hopefully this will all work out....

Tammy - you had a really rough 2010.... we'll miss you - so come back and visit often!

Sweatpea (kat)
- I hope everything went well at your SnS and you started your stims! I've moved you down to "grow, follies, grow!" I'm sorry your clinic is messed up - I always start my stims on CD3 - but I do antagonist cycles (ie, no Lupron first). I hope things didn't get messed up. An extra SnS won't hurt anything, so I think you'd might as well go for that.

I have always wanted to go to Greece - I'm super psyched. And I've been singing opera for years now. One of these weird talents that don't really help all that much in your life, but is quirky and fun. I love being backstage in a theater and I love performing - so it's a good thing that I can sing!

Kimber - welcome! I agree with Lou - there is an abbreviation list - but feel free to ask! Some of us are old pros, and don't mind helping the newbies at all. Single mom by choice is a hard decision, but kudos on deciding what you think is right for you. As for shooting yourself with the IM - can you ask for suppositories instead?

AFM - no New Year's parties for me - as a religious (-ish!) Jew, Friday nights mean no parties. But a friend had a NYE/birthday party on Saturday night. We played Trivial Pursuit - what a bunch of lame married people we are! DH and I did kiss at midnight on New Years Eve.... both of us got emotional - hoping for a better year this year....

another crazy week until my opera finishes it's run.... 8pm show tonight!

Kimber welcome and the shots are not bad at all. I was so scared. The DH owns a pizza place so needless to say is never home so I have to give myself my own shots. The muscle ones scared me to death but I finally got the nerve to do it myself. The needle is so sharp and so fine it just goes right in and you don't feel a thing. After the first one I was like what this is easy. I had my gf mark the area I needed to hit which is upper right or left of buttucks. It's easy to reach yourself. Some use a mirror standing up but I found lying down and just twisting my upper half was easier. Good luck!

Lou sounds like an awesome NYE party. This was my first year not going out in a while.

Sunshine so glad the vitamins are working for you husband. That's awesome.

Leora your very lucky to be able to sing. I'm very tone deaf but still sign to songs and the DH just laughs at me!

So I did go to docs this morning. Come to find out they were closed yesterday but the nurse was glad I just came in as I needed too and it worked out. So I got my blood and ultrasound done and should hear from them soon with instructions for tonight. Though the ultrasound tech thought she saw something. I'm like I just had a polpy removed right before Thanksgiving and the doctor said he wouldn't even consider it a real polyp. She said oh than he probably won't have you come in for a sono again. ARGH. Hope it was a shadow she saw. So I'm a little nervous about getting call. The good news is my antral count was 17 again:) So good again. Looks like that Vitamin D definiciency I had may have been the route of my low antral count. It's the only thing I can think of that I'm doing new in the last 3 years.

Happy New Year Ladies!

Kimber ~ Welcome to the boards! These are some amazing ladies. You are quite a woman going through IVF on your own, but it can be done. And we are all here for all the support you need! There is a injecion teaching website that my clinic referrs patients to. http://www.freedomfertility.com There is a link on the right hand side that has videos. We found it useful. Good Luck!!

AFM - Still glowing from our BFP! And anxiously awaiting my next beta on 1/7. DH just couldn't wait and has told EVERYONE that we are expecting. So...I am now suddenly very nervous with so many people knowing. But, with PMA I will make it through. My head is still swimming.

My sis-in-law delivered her baby 9 weeks early yesterday and is currently in ICU sedated with Pulmonary Edema. The baby, Charlie Robert is being really strong for mom and dad. He weighs 2.7# and has a head full of hair. Adorable, but so fragile. We are praying for both of them. Hopefully mom will be out of ICU tomorrow and Charlie will be in NICU for 6-10 weeks. They live on the east coast, so are far away. The distance is killing me, but I am a Proud Auntie!

Kimber baby - kudos for you. I was married to an abusive guy first and luckily got out of it and finally found my soulmate at 34! So I know what you mean about it getting frustrating when they take a bit long! Have you heard of In Vitro Maturation? They now have a new process where they can freeze eggs just like they freeze sperm. Then they can mature the eggs in vitro and fertilize them. I am not 100% sure how they retrieve the immature eggs but it might be worth doing this now while you are 35. I was reading this was an important step for women who either had wanted to further their careers and postpone having kids or cancer patients. This way you can be 40, and still have your eggs of35! http://www.eggfreezing.com/ I think you are awesome for chosing to have your baby now but maybe you can also look into this for when you do find Mr Right! As for the PIO, I asked for endometrin, my nurse also said there was a girl having her baby by herself and found it hard to do the shots so she asked for it too, it is FDA approved for this, much easier and less pain (I had a bad reaction to shots).

Sweetpea - I started on day 3, it should be fine! Great AFC!

Bakers- cute DH is so excited! I am so sorry for your nephew, I will also say a prayer.

Leora - I am so excited about your trip, I will need pictures of you and DH in these clear blue waters!!! I love it! Always wanted to go there! It is cold and raining here so I will live vicariously through you and your vacation! You will have a great year, like I said before see this trip as a bye bye to the 2 of you and a hello to the 3 or 4 of you!

Karian - great beta!

Lou - your evening sounded exaclty like mine! NOT! How fun, that really sounded great and I wish I had been there too! A great farewell to 2010 and a great hello to 2011 and the start of it being the 3 of you!

Kimber - I just wanted to jump in and say that I do all my shots myself, including the IM and i have been through 10 IVF cycles. Don't stress about it. Yes it can be a little tricky. Plus they say to pull up on the syringe after it is inserted to see if there is blood. That is kind of hard but lots of times I didn't worry about it. You can also do the iM shots in your thigh. I tried doing this once and chickened out. Seemed to hurt more then in my behind. Ive gots lots of padding in the behind area. Some ladies rather do them in the thigh. don't worry about doing this all yourself. This is a wonderful board with a lot of great women to help you through this. If i really think about it, I do most of my cycles by myself. Sure DH is great is i need morale support but really he has never known the ins and outs of the cycle, I just tell him when I need him do his thing. Good luck to You !!!

Dear All,

I'm so happy to join this post. I congratulate to everyone with positive beta test. May God shower his blessing on you and your new family member.

I'm on 2WW and will be going for blood test on this Sunday 9th Jan.

In past I had two fresh iVF, 4 egg sharing cycle. One end up with empty yolk prg  and rest all were negative. This time i have changed my doctor and got another fesh iVF done. My new doctor is one of the best doctor in my city.

I had ET on 27th Dec with 1 high quality embryo transfer as rest of embryos were punctured :-( :x

Pls. pray for me.. Its been 5 years of trying and this is my last attempt of life and I have invested everything I had to get my baby

Riya -- Welcome! And it only takes ONE. If it was high quality, then you have a great chance. I'm pulling for you for sure. Hang in there.

Chris -- Nice to see you stopping by. I see your donor cycle is Feb! I remember you saying summer 2011 at one point. I'm really excited for you and hope you join us more regularly so we can cheer you on.

Rio -- I wish you were at the NYE party too! That would've been a lot of fun. Where are you in CA? I live northwest of the city of Chicago.

Bakersbaby -- I'm so sorry to hear about your SIL. I really hope she and the baby make a quick recovery. Can't wait to see your next beta #! 1/7 seems a ways away from your first one. I guess every clinic is a bit different.

Kat -- Whew! So glad you got everything straightened out with your appointment today. Hope you get a call with the good news to start!

Leora -- Where in Greece are you going? Back in our traveling years DH and I went there twice. Once we were on the mainland predominantly in Athens and Olympia and the other time we spend a few days in Athens, a week in Mykonos, and then a couple days in Santorini and Crete. And yes, the karaoke was fun.... but I normally don't do it because I've been told I can't carry a tune in a box! Jerusalem is a place I've wanted to visit for a long time. I was born Catholic, but due to parents divorcing and my mother becoming very ill, I was never confirmed so I guess I don't really have a religion. I'd still love to see that biblical city. And I'd love to make the jaunt over to Petra. If we ever make it over there, I'll be sure to let you know. Where did you grow up?

Kimber -- Don't worry about doing the IM shots yourself. I've done my own on many occasions. It's not that hard to reach the outer upper quadrant of your buttock. I was a little nervous switching sides and doing the shot with my non-dominant hand, but it went well. It does help to ice the area for a few minutes beforehand. Kudos to you for going it alone!

AFM -- I'm going to watch my beloved Chicago Bears today hopefully beat up on the Green Bay Packers. Not because they need to... but because it's fun. I didn't think the Bears were a very good team in the beginning but they've been proving me wrong all season. And laundry.... loads and loads of laundry. Other than walking the dog, I have no plans to leave the house today. So weird for me. It's cold out... only 25% but really sunny and Roxy and I played in the backyard for a bit to rehab her knee. It's healing well!

Kimber Baby wrote:Lou - thanks for suggesting the general discussions for the acronymn meanings.

So, here's my story. I'm 35, single and have had GYN issues for years. A few years back, I had to have an ovary removed due to a large endometrioma cyst. So, I'm working with half of my equipment as a starting point.

I've hit the stage in my life where I feel I'm ready for a family. Of course, Mr. Right still has not found me...but a few years back, I decided that if I hit 35 and there were no prospects, I was going to attempt to go it alone. So, I consulted a fertility doc and after many tests, he said my chances were about 20% to conceive and I'd have to go IVF. Apparently, the surgery to remove the cysts created an issue with my one remaining tube and the skin fused together. So, IVF is the only solution. To make matters worse, I have low egg levels as well and doc doesn't think I'll respond that well to the stimulants.

Although my chances are low, I figure they are not zero, right? I'd hate myself if I didn't at least try to go through IVF. So, that's what brings me here. I'm on my first cycle now. I start Lupron on Monday. It's been a tough process so far, especially doing this on my own and making all the decisions myself. I've shared my endeavor with my parents but I'm a very private person and haven't shared with anyone else.

The process of choosing the right sperm donor was lengthy and pricey, but I feel pretty confident about the guy I chose. I just hope he has super sperm :D

So now my biggest frustration is when I get to the intermuscular injections. I'm stressing out about this. The nurses seem to think I won't be able to do these myself. I don't really have anyone who can do it for me, without revealing to someone that I'm trying to get pregnant. Does anyone have any experience doing their own shots? Just wondering if anyone can give me any advice or if it's even possible?

Happy New Year and thanks!

Kimber
Totally crashing but I lurk and pray for all of the wonderful ladies here..... you know that the suppositories, while messy, are just as effective as the shots.... my clinic has exceptional rates and only does suppositories for progesterone support. Wishing you all the best - you won't regret being a mom!
