New and confused

My husband and I will be starting IVF and have been seen at UCSF Medical Center with Dr. Cedars. From what I have read online she has a very good success rate, especially with my age group (I'm 41 years old). I am just now discovering that there are reproductive centers who offer programs where you pay a certain amount and if you don't get pregnant after 6 rounds of treatment, you get a refund. Does anyone recommend this? Has anyone had any experience at UCSF Medical Center, particularly with Dr. Cedars? I felt totally comfortable with Dr. Cedars, but the cost is starting to freak me out.

You are talking about shared risk programs. I am not familiar with the clinic or dr you are talking about but I have looked for shared risk programs in the past for myself. I found that there are generally many requirements to qualify for such a program, including age, previous ivf attempts, bmi and others. i think they are worth it if you are qualified for it. Normally you will get something like 6 tries and if you do not have a live birth then you get 75% back. All are different though. Good luck on your journey!

My SIL did the shared-risk program in S.C. and they got pregnant on the first try. Altogether she would of had 3 attempts to use, but told me she felt less stressful knowing she could get another try if they needed to since it was already covered. So I think it made the whole process less stressful knowing. I wish my clinic offered it, because we would have a set concrete plan instead of something not working and having to re-evaluate our next treatment plan. So if the clinic you're referring to has a good success rate and the doctor is Board Certified in Fertility and Encrinology, I say why not? You're fortunate to have this opportunity.
