Hi Everyone

Thanks for the warm welcomes and special thanks for the heads up on the glossary for all the abbreviations!!! I had an ultra sound on Friday and the dr said I had 7 great follicles with 5 or 6 that are coming along nicely. She said to reduce my follistim from 300 to 225 on Friday and then to 125 tonight with another ultrasound and bloodwork scheduled for tomorrow. She kept my Lupron at 5 units and low dose HGC to 10 units. Since this is my first time through IVF I have a few questions...
1. Is it normal to have the follistim reduced?
2. if it is normal to have it reduced, how soon after the reduction is the egg retrieval?

This is such a great supprot system because noone truly understands the emotional, physical, and financial toll all of this takes but people who are actually going through it!

Thanks Leorira for your reply - I know it isn't fair. I can imagine just how frustrating the situation at work might be when you are the one who has tried to conceive longest and should really be away from work with your baby (I wish it for you so much). DH and I are trying to come to terms with seeing the new baby in every family gathering. I don't know how it's gonna affect my DH since he wants to get attached to his niece yet he would so much like one of our own. Finally. Weird feeling that they're so much younger than us too. And yes, similar to your story, they conceived right on their honeymoon.

Kat - fingers crossed for you! I hope the SnS goes great today and no one says the evil "C" word ("cancel"!)

Tiger - enjoy your accupuncture! I found it relaxing too - I always fall asleep!

Carol - I agree with you that my view on infertility has completely changed since we've started to have trouble concieving. You are so lucky that your son got the liver he needed, but it's so sad that another family had to lose their son for you to have yours.... I hope you get lots of (easily-acheived) grandchildren one day!
also, accupuncture doesn't hurt. The needles are tiny, so you don't even feel them going. I find that it helps not to look at them, since I'm grossed out by looking at things sticking out of my skin. Sometimes a needle will touch a nerve and give you a shock, but you just tell the accupuncturist and they move it.

Hope - Italy and France ain't half bad! One thing I love about living in Israel is how close we are to Europe. Instead of vacations to Ohio or West Virginia (like I had growing up in Western PA) - I vacation in London and Paris - now Greece! For us, Europe is much closer and cheaper than visiting America

nwquiz - I moved you back up on the list. It feels better feeling like you are moving forward rather than just sitting at the bottom, no? So sorry you were BFN, but hopefully the next one will work! I totally understand getting a job with fertility insurance benefits.... here in Israel we have national health care (it's great!). People don't understand how hard it is for Americans with the shitty health care system and awful insurance nightmare! I know friends who took jobs they hated because the benefits were better - that's stupid. Hopefully America will figure this out!

Lauren1711
- yay! congrats on starting stims!

Margi - thanks for the penguin blinkie! only 9 more days until my HSG and your WTF

Samantha - congrats on getting AF! Amazing how we either really really want a period - or really really don't! What's the next step for you, darling?

Sunshine 12 - congrats on your ER! 11 is great! I'm a great responder, and I've had 18 and 14 mature eggs in my two fresh cycles - so 11 is great. Any idea when the ET will be? Does it depend on how many embryos are developing (ie 3day or 5day)?

Kimber - See? We told you the injections were so bad. ;) I'm a big expert now! No advice on the fertility massage though

Sunshine 1576 - I'm glad you decided on something. Sometimes having a plan, any plan - is better than no plan.

Kristin (krcaja) - maybe they want you to lower the stims because you are responding very well. I remember that the day of my trigger (hcg) shot, I about halved my Follistim dosage.

Riya - how did the beta go on Friday?

JamieP - good luck today! Let us know how that beta goes!

AFM -
feeling sick! Oh NO! Sore throat (swollen), coughing, headache, tiredness, achiness..... I have to get better before we go to Greece on Thursday!

Anyone else get a weird obsession that you are pregnant but just don't know it? I have the feeling that I'm pregnant. Is that crazy? I got the BFN from the FET about 3 weeks ago and I've been on BCP since. I got a really heavy period after the failed FET. I've been spotting a bit on the BCP. I stopped the BCP to get a period for the HSG and the bleeding has picked up a little bit (no real flow yet) ----- WHY AM I OBSESSEDTHAT I'M PREGNANT? I know that I'm not.... but somehow, I wonder if they messed up my beta results.... I've had bleeding while pregnant.... hmmm.... WHAT THE F*CK IS WRONG WITH ME?

I think it's just a crazy dream - that I'll go in for a routine check for my new IVF, and there will be a baby in there. Not at all likely (I don't ovulate on my own, I'm taking BCP *AND* our main problem is exceedingly low sperm count (almost none) and I haven't had sex with anyone but DH!).... Am I really going absolutely nuts?

Leora I've had those feelings before. It's weird and the weirdest ones are when your belly is kicking you. Obviously an air bubble or gas in my case.

Riya- Good luck on your beta

Tiger-Good luck on the accupuncture. If I don't get lucky this cycle I'm so makign an appointment

Hopisallihave-the meds give me the worste headaches. I haven't gotten a migraine yet thankfully. As far as estrogen I'm not quite sure where it should be at. I know mine isn't there yet though.

Sunshine12-Yay on the 11 egss that awesome. How are they doing today?

NwWiz-Bank Of America is an awesome place to work for. My gf is a bank manager there. And she started there as a teller realy young and they sent her to training etc and paid her while she was in management training. She makes a ton of money too.

Lauren-That's good news you started your meds. It goes by pretty fast after that.

Kimber0 Glad you foudn Mr. Right. You must be much more relaxed.

Sorry if I missed anyone.

Update on me had my blood and ultrasound and the doctors called me back already. I had 5 follicles ranging from 10.5 to 15.5. There was a few just under that 10 mark. Total under 10 is 13 follicles. My instructions for tonight are 225 units of Gonal-F tonight and tomorrow, Lupron 5 units tomorrow and Tuesday, Repronex 1 vial tonight and tomorrow. I need to return Tuesday for blood and ultrasound. She predicts that Tuesday I will trigger. She said I will defnitely have my ER by Friday. So basically since tonight will be day 8 of stims I guess I'll be doing 9 days possibly 10 of stims. I also looked back at my old notes and I actually stimmed for 10 days last time and had my ER right on day 14 of my cycle. So I'm pretty much right on track with last time I did long cycle Lupron. Lets just hope I get 13 eggs like the first time;) My lining was 9.1.

This long cycle stinks but hopefully it means that I'll get some nice healthy eggs this time.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Hi Girls- sorry I havent had a chance to post but I been reading along, I have had a very busy week planning my sister bridal shower... :) Talked to my nurse last week I am starting as soon as AF arrives this month, I am figuring she should be here by the 19th... The nurse said I will start Lupron 21 days after I get AF, is that normal to stat 21 days later? This is only my 2nd cycle and I cant really remember how the first cycle started since it was all brand new to me... Anyways I am getting super excited to know I am starting this process again in hopes to have a baby in 2011 :) Babydust to everyone :)

everthing come to an end with negative beta HCG. After all of efforts God has shown that he is nt with poor me and took away my child forever. His ignorance towards me is consistent and my last chance of getting pregnent is finish now. I am forced to live a childless life by God. I accept his hate and ignorance for me. As a weak women this is the best I can do

nwquiz -- You are no amateur! I had no idea you had done quite so many cycles. You are waaay overdue for your BFP. And I'm so sorry about the m/c's along the way. It's just horrible.

kildean -- Two sacs on u/s?!?! Hmmm... you are a twin making machine. When is your next u/s?

Rio -- How the heck did you know I was in the medical field? Too funny. Thanks for all your dancing... it worked!

heather -- I love your tattoo idea to remember your daughter. I have a tattoo in memory of my mother. It's a butterfly on my right foot. I love it.

Bakersbaby -- That's a good doubling time! GL on your next u/s.

txc -- Hope to join you in puking bliss in a few short weeks. Congrats again!

HopeisallIhave -- Your labs look good. You want an E2 under about 90 but under 50 is best and an FSH less than 10. So you're good. For comparison, my E2 was 42 and FSH 6.6. Last cycle I retrieved 10 eggs. Labs are only one piece of the picture. Age is important (under 35 is best) and antral follicle count. Ideally, you should have a least 15 antral follicles when you start stims for best results. Glad you're doing well with the Lupron shots!

SDtrying#2-- Yes, most of the time I do like my job. I like being a pharmacist but sometimes dislike the management side of things. Just comes with the territory I guess.

Sunshine1576 -- Good luck with your decision. You are young enough that with good sperm, IUI should definitely be an option. But it's a personal decision only you two can make together.

Kristin -- Welcome. They probably counted your antral follicles. For best results with stim meds, ideally you should have 15. But 10-15 is also pretty good. Only antral follicles can respond to stim meds in IVF. Some women get just about as many eggs as there are antrals and some get less. I typically get about a 50-60% yield (i.e. 20 antrals = 10 eggs retrieved) but I'm told that's typical for my age. member, it's quality not quantity that matters. Read here for more info. http://www.advancedfertility.com/antralfollicles.htm

Kat -- Sounds like you are taking the slow and steady approach to stimming this time and it's working nicely! Yeah!

Leora -- Thanks for all the dancing... it worked! AF is here. Is it T-6 for your Greece trip??? I'm so excited for you to go.

Tiger -- Man... I sure hope so. I am sooo ready to be pregnant again. I've done everything possible to tip the scales in my favor including wearing a Fertility Goddess around my neck that was sent to me by an IVF friend who did the same and got pregnant. I can't wait for your IUI too... this is your time as well!

CJ-- Acupuncture doesn't hurt. Sometimes I feel a tiny pinch but it doesn't last more than a millisecond. There are studies showing it increasing implantation rates in IVF... so I'm doing it!!! I obviously need all the help I can get.

Lauren1171 -- Thanks for dancing for me!! She's here. I go for baselines tomorrow and if all is well (please God), start stims! We are cycle buddies again! Yay! Am I correct in reading your signature that this will be your 6th embryo transfer? If so, then it's my sixth and Leora's too. There's got to be something in that number. Lucky #6?

Margi -- You must be one hell of a dancer because last night AF arrived and ended my worry. Thanks my friend.

Samantha -- Whoo hoo for AF!!! Seems in IVF we either really want her or really don't...lol.

Sunshine12 -- 11 eggs is awesome! Have you gotten your fert report yet? Hope you are growing some amazing embies!!!

Kimber -- Fertility massage? No I haven't heard of it before. I'm doing acupuncture though to improve blood flow to that area. I'll have my baseline tomorrow and hopefully start stims as well so we will be cycle buddies!

Riya-- I'm so sorry for your BFN. Life is so unfair sometimes. This chance will likely be our last as well unless we figure out a way to afford more cycles. I understand how sad you must be and my heart breaks for you. We're here to talk if you need us.

AFM --- Yesterday I had what appeared to be a very tiny amount of spotting when I wiped (sorry TMI!). So I was hopeful that AF was coming. Went to bed with a pantyliner *just in case*. And this morning the liner was clean but... as soon as I sat down to pee... there she was in full force. So I called my clinic and I have an appt tomorrow morning at 7:30 for my baseline. I'm praying that all is well and I can start stims tomorrow evening. Lot's of love to you all.

Sunshine12- CONGRATS on 11 eggs!!!

Lauren1711- YEAH!!! Glad you are starting again! Many prayers being sent your way!!

krcaja- Welcome! Usually when you are responding well to the stims they will reduce the dosage! Grow FOLLIES GROW!!!

kimber baby- Ive never tried or even heard of fertility massage. Id rather acupuncture.. for the obvious reasons. LOL

Samantha- YEAH! on AF! Much baby dust on your coming cycle!!

margi- praying for a good WTF appt! I hope you come up with something AWESOME!! Always praying for you!

Hope- glad you are making through the terrible shot process. It gets easier and believe me its worth all the pain! No pain no gain! Lots and lots of baby dust sent your way!!!!!!

Carol- I pray for you everyday and your upcoming cycle! You are going to do great!!

Tiger and Lou- Doing the AF dance for you! Lets get this cycle started!!! Praying for those BFP's!!!!

Afm- My news isnt great and really could be worse so Im thankful! I need a surgical biopsy on my breast, but because of where its needed and how much has to be taken its going to leave a big hole and leave a nasty scar and will need reconstruction. So the plan is to go in and remove the bad area and then do a breast augmentation surgery on both breasts. So I guess my big question is I wonder how long I have to wait to do an IVF cycle after a breast augmentation? That was the other news I received on Friday, DH and I were going to try IUI but because I had a bad allergic reaction to the HSG dye 4 years ago they are totally against doing another HSG to check my tubes. But what upsets me is that I asked this in November when my doctor did a D&C if we needed to do a Lap to check my tubes and he said no. But now he's saying without another lap we should just do another IVF. UGH!!!! This isnt starting out to be a good year!! On the positive side, we decided on tattoos and Im excited to remember my little princess (pictures of both on Wednesday)! Praying for you all! BABY DUST ALL AROUND!!

riya - big hugs..pls don't lose hope..i am sure god have great plans for you..

sweetpea - that's a great report! keep going!

heather - i am sorry to hear about your breast issue..but don't worry about the year starting out with some head aches…im sure 2011 is going to give you lot of good memories..

lou - yey!! your AF came on time!! let the show begin!

leoria - talk about the feeling of being pregnant! whenever i see that i didn't know i was pregnant series in discovery, i imagine me being one of those girls getting that 1 hell of a surprise one fine morning..but then i feel, it is better to know beforehand, as we can take good care during pregnancy...

thanks everyone..well my fert report is in..out of 11 only 6 of them is fertilized.so looks like i will most probably have a 3 day transfer..i was very excited about getting 11..but i guess, most of them might not have been mature, as they started growing a little late…i can't take more than 2 days of leave from work next week and since ET is on tuesday, i guess i can take leave only on tuesday and wednesday..do you guys think that is sufficient enough? i was hoping for a 5 day transfer, so that i can take thursday and friday off, and the following week is a long weekend..but now looks like my plan is not going to work.. i am keeping my fingers crossed hoping that the 6 of them fertilized are of good quality..

Hi Everyone,
From reading all the posts it sounds like so much is going on. Riya, I'm sending out prayers tonight your way, that God sends you a plan and leads you in the right direction. Often I feel like the world isn't fair, but more than anything we know that we aren't in this crazy world all alone! :D We may not understand why things happen the way they do, but we do know God is our sovereign, he will guide us and provide us with the best plan, when the time is right! This doesn't mean we should loose that visiualization of someday being parents, but we pray and re-evualate our plan! Ask yourself how much can you tolerate, if this is really it? I respect if this your final decision, but could it be frustration talking? Insurance doesn't cover our IVF cycles either, but we have to look at every option out there. It isn't easy, but I pray that one day you'll be looking into the face of that precious little one and just know this was all worth it! Time can only tell us so much, but prayer can move mountains.

AFM: Three more days left of bc before I take a break for AF to come- due around Jan. 18th.
Action Plan: Next week scheduling Laproscopic surgery (covered by medical insurance). After the surgery, we'll try 2 rounds of IUI, following up with IVF in June. Not sure about the DHEA, but thinking ahead, and asking IF my doctor can take an egg (for testing purposes) when he puts me under for laproscopic surgery. I mean he is already there and I'm already asleep, maybe possible? Certainly doesn't hurt to ask!

Samantha - I have used Cetrotide on all of my cycles. It's easy to mix. For some reason this cycle I got prescribed ganorelix. Then the pharmacy called to say they had to change it to Cetrotide because "my insurance prefers that". It's all I have used anyway, so I am fine with it. Good luck and I hope your pains go away soon!

Lou - On my 5th cycle I took all the meds and triggered but my RE cancelled my ER because I had a low red blood count due to too much blood loss from AF! So this will be my 5th transfer. I transferred 10 so far and this time we are transferring 4. How many do you plan to transfer? This is my last INS paid cycle, so I hope it works!

Thanks for all the great advice so far everyone!!! I went to the doctor today and I have 9 follicles 18+. I also have 7+ that are between 11 and 17. I take my ovidrel (triggger shot) tonight. I have to go back in the am for another ultrasound and bloodwork. I am due for retrieval for Tuesday. Of course we are in a snow storm warning for tomorrow and tuesday morning. But NOTHING is stopping us now!!! I am really praying that I have good eggs that will fetilize and grow and then implant.
I forgot...i stopped the low dose HGC and lupron tonight and only took 75 of the follistim. Hoping that will be enough to make the stragglers catch up

Looks like I need to check in more often! Difficult to do personals when trying to keep track of everyone, sorry if I miss someone.

nwquiz - wow, wouldn't that be nice if there was no max cap from insurance companies. Luckily, my DH's insurance covers for $15,000 in fertility treatments, so I'm hoping our first try works. It'd be great if the new health reform excludes the max cap. We have BOA right across the street from us, but unfortunately, I can't work at the present time. Long story :\

Leora - uh oh. Hoping for a speedy recovery for you so you can enjoy Greece without the virus tagging along. As for you think you're going nuts, I don't think you are. I think the feeling is probably normal after all the pain and suffering you have gone through. That vacation to Greece will definitely do you some good! We want to hear stories when you get back! Where are you staying?

Sweetpea - praying for lots of strong and healthy eggs for you! You're so close!! I don't start stimming until this Friday after my baseline sonogram/bw appt this Thursday.

Kynlee, hoping your AF arrives soon! Is your clinic putting you on BCP's? I started Lupron on 7th day of my cycle, 4 days simultaneously with BCP's. Today is my last day of BCP.

Riya - I am so so so so so very sorry. :( My heart breaks for you. Please don't give up hope if you have the means to continue on. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Lou - thank you so much for the interpretation on labs! I got about the same information during my research. I'm happy that the labs, age, and the antral follicle count are working to my advantage. Now let's see what quality of eggs I actually get. We're doing ICSI, too, so I don't know whether that will help our chances of getting pregnant or hinder it. I have no idea what I'm in for! Glad to hear your AF was right on time! woohoo! On to the next step! :D

Heather - thanks!! I just got done giving myself the Lupron shot, and have to say, it actually stung a little this time. The last 3 times were not all that bad, wonder what I did different this time. But you're right. No pain, no gain. So if this is what it takes to get pregnant, bring on the pain! So sorry to hear about the scar and the breast augmentation surgery. At least it's a step towards the right direction. When are you getting your biopsy done? I know it's a major pain when the health professionals are inconsistent with what they advise. Are you going to get a lap done then or are you aiming towards the IVF route? Looking forward to seeing your tats!

Sunshine.12 - I'm hoping you have some good quality embryos to transfer, too. Is your clinic going to keep you in the loop of how your embryos are progressing on a day-to-day basis until the transfer or do you think 3 day transfer is going to be it for you? Good luck, my dear! Oh, and as far as the progesterone, I'm prescribed the vaginal suppositories (Endometrin, I believe), so luckily no IM shots for me. How did that go for you?

Samantha - My menstrual pains are pretty bad every couple cycles, too. This last cycle, especially, was very painful. I hate pill popping, but I had to resort to taking ibuprofen a few times.

Sunshine1576 - good luck with your lap surgery next week. What is it for?

Lauren - good luck this cycle! Hope this is THE one!

Krcaja - sounds like a good number of follies! Good luck on your ER this Tuesday!

AFM - Took my last BCP today. Another 4 days of lupron and then I go in for my Estradiol level/baseline sonogram on Thursday before starting stims on Friday. I had a beautiful dream last night that I gave birth to twins - one boy, one girl. The boy had brown eyes like me and the girl had blue eyes like DH. They looked so so precious! When I woke up, I just wanted to go back to sleep and see "my kids" again. Not sure if I'll be blessed with twins or not, but heck, I'll be overly ecstatic if I get just one. Oh, I hope I have that dream again tonight.

Dear All,

Thanks for your wishes and motivation. I m really feeling good that you are there for me to share my feelings. I visited my doctor today. She was also upset and told me to leave it for atleast two months. I can decide with my husband what next. But i do not want to go for more IVF anymore. I have planned to either take surrogate help or adopt a child. Not sure what next.
