zoe~ I'm sorry you are having such a struggle with this. I know it's tough sometimes to keep our minds from going there...but really the odds are so very low that there would be a problem. If a pregnancy makes it past the first trimester, the odds of a chromosomal issue are extremely low. There also is no test for Autism before a baby is born. It's not considered a chromosome issue. Downs can also be diagnosed without an amnio. The thought of twins can be scary, but we have to have faith that it's going to be okay. Last year we went through a wonderful pregnancy, and had no idea what was ahead of us...our son caught a bad bacteria after he was born, in the hospital, and died...would I have changed anything had I known this before hand that it would happen...well I would have fought like hell to save him, which I still did anyway, but no I wouldn't have changed a moment of my pregnancy, and I walk forward today knowing that we just don't know the outcome of things...but worrying about what might happen now, will help no one. We have to be strong. We are strong, look what we have all come through. Give him a little time, and try to be reassuring...and certainly go to that counseling session...in fact schedule a couple more..and talk to your RE about the odds of these things you are worried about. We can't live by what if...it will eat away at us. Stay strong..and when you need to vent...We are here for you!!!

Rio- your little bean looks gorgeous. I'm pretty much at the date that you are. I had an u/s on Wednesday and mine looked alot like yours. So sweet.

I think I'm having a boy, but who knows. I looked on the Chinese Gender predictor calendar and I'm confused b/c you use your age during the month of conception. Well, in the IVF world I suppose conception if fertilization? Cause I was 39 when I had my ER but had turned 40 by the day of transfer. So If I use the age of 39 it says girl...if I use the age of 40 it says boy. I'm gonna find out around 28 weeks so we can plan the nursery. I just want a healthy, term baby!

Big hug to everyone!

I'm not sure I'm much help on testing. My husband and I decided against it. Our age is one reason why I didn't want to do it
(since we have low risk as is) and another reason was due to the risk of miscarriage of the amnio. Due to money/insurance, my husband and I don't get to do this again. We will love and want this baby no matter what and we don't want to jeopardize the pregnancy. Hopefully everything works out for you and your husband comes around.

With gender, I want a girl & my husband wants a boy. I've had 2 dreams about the baby so far. One was the ultrasound and one was that I had the baby early. Both times the baby was a boy. This last dream he was 7 pounds .6oz and 20 inches long with brown hair like mine (my husband is a blonde). I'm beginning to accept that this baby is a boy. I guess we will see soon enough.

Karian-My husband isn't allowed to keep the information for weeks, I've already threatened to call the OB to find out if he takes too long. He's finding out on a Friday, I'm hoping to know by that weekend. I have to give him time to carry out the surprise. I work Friday and he coaches basketball until 8:30pm and works 3rd shirt that night so I'm guessing Saturday is the best day.

zoegirl wrote:A question. DH is freaking out, thinking that one of the babies is sure to be Downs or Autistic due to our age. He remembered hearing me express distaste at the idea of an amnio or CVS and said that he could not handle twins if one is a special needs child - that "would be the end of us." I hope he wouldn't run out on a wife with two new babies and a toddler - I don't THINIK he would. He has always found stories of special needs kids to be so heartbreaking and sad - he can't see that parents of these kids could get any joy out of their lives.

I asked him not to worry about Downs and Autism, as our screening will not be for weeks and weeks . . . If, after the screening and the diagnostic ultrasound, they determine that the risk of one of these conditions is greater than the risk of performing the procedure (CVS, Amnio), then of course I would seriously consider having the procedure. If one of the babies has a serious condition we would have to consider what to do about it. But of course, I said, you have to understand that a woman would not be too excited about the idea of a giant needle being inserted thru her abdominal wall into her uterus where the baby is living - it's disturbing, probably painful and potentially harmful.

It's strange . . . I am usualy the one panicking and scared about things and he is the one telling me to take it day by day and not to jump to conclusions or assume the worst. I asked him to think of all the things he has said to me over the years and
then tell them to himself.
Zoe- I can understand your DH concern. I think it is very normal. I had twins my last pregnancy (had ptl at 23 wks) and both babies were fine as far as downs is concerned. I was 39. They only passed away due to extreme prematurity. The odds are in your favor. I declined a cvs or amnio bc we did pgd testing. I would have only agreed toot had something come up on ultrasound that didn't look right. DH will definitely benefit from counseling. Validation helps a lot. But facts of things working out for the best is helpful too. Xoxo. Hang in there.

Hello Ladies,

I hope you're all feeling well.

Welcome Deidra, so glad you moved over to this thread.

I had my 16 week U/S on Wednesday and the babies are looking great :D :D. I can't believe how big they are already. The tech thought they might be boys, going to wait to announce anyting until my next scan on 1/19. Still have a fairly large SCH, I wish I knew how much longer it would last. M/S is improving some. I'm not taking the Zofran as often, which is very nice. Not much else going on. Have a great weekend :D

I was hoping I could join this thread. I found out in December while trying to wean my 10m old from breast feeding, that I am pregnant....naturally.......what a concept?!!!!

I will be 8 weeks on Monday based on my US. It is strange to see the doctors when it is NOT IVF! They did an US at 6 weeks but won't see me back again until 10weeks....I am so nervous that something will go wrong. I have had so many miscarriages and one at 11 weeks......
Everything was fine on US and my beta was fine, I had the RE follow those numbers.

I am looking forward to growing with you all!

txc...In my opinion, here is no such thing as too much sleep :) If you need it, you need it!

hopinginnc....CONGRATS and welcome! What a wonderful suprise to get a natural BFP and what your signautre shows to be quite a journey!!!!

Gina...I'm so jealous of your 16 week mark! I'm half way there!!!

Karen...I did the same thing, because my embryos were "made" when I was 24, but put in when I was 25...who the heck knows! I think it's a boy and a girl. I learned this little needle trick thing a few years back and it has never been wrong, so I am banking on it being right for me!

Rio..What a GORGEOUS little baby you have growing there!!!! .I think boy/girl for me. Like I said to Karen, I live by this needle thing and it has never been wrong...it says girl boy for both DH and myself.

zoe...congrats on the twins!

mellow...I hope you are enjoying your relaxation time!!!!!!

AFM...Had a bleeding scare Friday night and went to the ER. The US showed that both babies are doing ok, but don't know where the bleed came from. Pelvic exam showed I have quite a bit of blood hanging out. I had some pain on the right side and they weren't able to find my right ovary on any kind of ultrasound...they were not so helpful! I am going to my OB tonight to see what he has to say. I hope they are both going strong!

And as for the morning sickness...DH is really uncomfortable with the thought of any medication to ease it, so I am trucking through. Just a few more weeks and I hope and pray it subsides!!!!!!!!!!!
