Ghost - do you know if a previous C-section can negatively impact future implantation rates?
thanks!

Thanks, Rio. Just out of curiosity - how many did you have transfered to get pregnant the 2nd time? and what quality embryos were they? If everything goes well and i get to the transfer stage, i am going to have to decide how many to transfer. 1st attempt i transferred 2 and it was bfn, frozen attempt i transferred 3 and was pregnant with my boy. i am tempted to transfer 2 this time - because i am feeling more cautious about getting pregnant with twins. on the other hand i am older so maybe i should transfer 3.
i should probably ask Ghost what the percentage probabilities are for 39 year old for the transfer of 2 grade A 8 cell embryos on day 3.
and for grade B.
and for transfer of 3.
I was 36 on my first attempt and transfered 4 3d embies, 10/8/8/5 cells had our son
#2 IVF at 39 transfered 3, 3 day 9/7/5 cells and had an ectopic
#3 IVF at 39 transfered 4, 3 day embryos, 10/8/8/6 and originally had twins but then a vanishing twin. All the embryos transfered were high quality no fragmentation whatosever. I understand being worried about twins but we never have frosties and we are out of pocket so twins were better than a BFN for us.
GOod luck!

Don't know. I'll see if I can ask one of the docs. I doubt it's much of an issue.

Hi,
I also had a c-sec and am now pregnant. I have done three cycles, the first was a fresh we transferred 2 high quality blasts and both took, second was a FET doctor suggested to transsfer 3 since at my clinic success with frozen drops a little, I was too nervous to have a triplet high risk pregnancy so put only two high quality blasts, this time at the transfer doctor noticed I have had a c-section because he asked me, I said yes but he did not say it was a problem, this time it was a chemical. Third cycle was a FET too and this time I went along with the suggestion of my doctor and tranferred three blasts, I am now pregnant with one baby. I think deciding how many to transfer is a very personal and difficult thing to do.
Hugs and I hope you have success in your next cycle,
Ana

You are probably looking at about 20-25% implantation rate per embryo with the best grade, and a little less (maybe 15-20%) with the more typical B grade. A transfer of 2 should give a pregnancy rate of almost double the implantation rate. About 90% of those pregnancies will result in live birth. The transfer of 3 is usually only a slight increase in success rate relative to 2.
As for your first question, a prior c-section is rarely a problem. In very rare rare cases, the placenta can invade the scar, and becomes a major problem for the mother, requiring surgical intervention after birth.

Thanks, Ghost. That's very helpful! My first fresh cycle ( i was 37 then) we transferred 2 and it was a bust. the next FET we transferred 3 and 1 worked! this time around, we'll have to decide based on the embryo quality. but i am feeling more conservative - meaning i will probably go for transfer of 2 not 3, just knowing a bit more what's involved in a twin pregnancy and various risks, etc. also some people, including myself apparently, do better with frozen cycles. my estrogen tends to get pretty high during fresh - 5000 - and according to my embryologist that's not the best environment for transfer. and my clinic has really good frozen rates. so i probably wouldnt want to spend too many embryos on a fresh cycle - try to save them for the frozen try. anyway - its all theory at this point. in a couple of weeks hopefully we'll get to practice
