I would do it. That way you create a "cocoon of protection" around your newborn. You can't get it and DH should be vaccinated. I practically begged for the swine flu vaccine when I was pregnant with my son. It was fall of '09 when there was a shortage. I managed to get it just 1.5 weeks before he was born. Vaccines save lives, people nowadays don't know what these epidemics were like before vaccinations. However, hundreds of thousands used to die from various diseases each year that we can now vaccinate for. The flu epidemic of 1918 killed tens of millions of people world wide. This year several people died in CA from whooping cough, and there is a vaccine. People just aren't taking it from fear. However, the diseases are way more fearful than the vaccines.

Mamaboo - DH is definitely getting it, I am worried because CDC itself has not recommended it for pregnant women because they do not know the risks, CDC recommends right after delivery and I might do that, I agree with you that vaccines save lives, I got the H1N1 and so did DH and our son. I was just curious as of the recommendations of other Drs...

Rio- DH is getting it. I still need to make his appt with the Dr. I talked to our OB and hospital. They will give it to me after delivery. They all say it is not safe to get during pregnancy. OK that's fine. I'll be getting mine before I leave the hospital. I did get my flu shot last month. I meant to do it earlier but I got a cold and had to wait. I told them I wanted it even though flu season was almost over. By getting the shot while we are pregnant it will help protect the baby during the first 6 mos of her life, until she can get the shot herself.
MMMMMMMm shots...hate them but I guess they are a necessary evil.

Oh, is it not okayed yet? I didn't know that. That worries me. I was wanting to get it when I get BFP. How long does it take to take effect once you get it? Is it about 3 weeks like the flu shot? My flu shot hadn't fully kicked in when Boo was born. Therefore, Boo wasn't fully protected. However, my OB assured me that since I was breastfeeding, it would pass along protection to him. Also, since DH and I had the vaccine, it helped keep it from coming into the house.
