New here, and new to the process-- HELP! ;)

Hey, all-
I am just beginning the process of figuring out how to go about getting pregnant. I am single and 38; I have one child that I have raised as a single mom. I don't know the first thing about IUI v IVF etc, and I'm assuming the first plan of attack is artificial insemination. That said, I have no idea where to get sperm (I googled online and the enormity of the results was overwhelming) or who implants it, etc. I feel so ridiculously clueless and don't know who to ask. Do I meet with an RE first? Pick a sperm bank? Does it need to be local? As you can see, I need help with even the most basic of issues. Thank you so much for your time.

Also, I apologize if this is not where one is supposed to post this sort of thing, but I don't know the etiquette of this site yet.

Welcome to the forum! I have not used donor sperm before, but if I were you I would find a good clinic in the area first. Once you find a clinic they should be able to guide you in the right direction as far as where to get the sperm. Good luck to you. Check out my blog for some more infertility information. Welcome! I agree, the entire process is quite daunting. First thing I would recommend is finding a clinic. The SART website can help you..especially if you have any fertility issues, you may want to consider their success rates. I have done both IUIs and IVFs (with my husband's sperm). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
