Denise and Heather - where are you??

Post by Dagny »

Hi Denise and Heather

I was just wondering where you had both got to. On your last posts you told us you were both having triplets  Is everything going OK???

You are probably too tired or sick or both to get to a computer but just wanted you to know I am thinking of you both.

Hi Dagny!!!

Thanks so much for your concern!! I have not been online much these days as the end of the school year is winding down, and by the time I get home I am exhausted and need to nap.

Anyhow, there is a reason for everything - on May 21 I had my first appointment with our perinatalogist. The technician was scanning and not saying a word. At this point I was ten weeks. I asked if all was OK, and she said that one of the triplets was no longer viable, that it was much smaller than the identicals, and there was no heartbeat. My dh and I were in shock - really no symptoms, I did have spotting several weeks prior to this and went for a scan and we saw the 3 hbs. We asked what happened and she explained that the baby stopped growing around 8 weeks, that the only explanation was that it was "mother nature" taking its course - perhaps it was not a healthy pregnancy. We were surprised as we thought that was the strongest baby, the first one seen on the scan and the one by itself. The doctor later confirmed what the technician found and said that this early it is called the Vanishing Twin Syndrome, in our case the Vanishing Triplet. When we arrived home I told my neighbor what had happened stating that we lost one of the triplets and he (being a minister) stated that we did not lose a triplet, God just chose not to grant that baby to me yet, or perhaps had another plan to give that baby to another mother in waiting. So, I believe what he told me - have the faith, and know others will be blessed with a positive in the near future!!

On to good news, the twins are identical - in the same placenta and the technician searched/scanned for about 20 minutes or so to find this membrane separating them so that they don't get tangled. Finally Jane found the membrane!!! YEAH!!! now this is not as high risk, but still a risk for the Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome that they will continue to monitor the twins throughout the pregnancy. And - she also was able to determine the sex of the identicals.....At ten weeks one day she said that she has never been wrong, but they must have been in great positions as she stated that they were indeed girls. Later, the doctor also confirmed that prediction and stated his reasons why. We are thrilled....I already have names picked out as my dh has his own set of names. We will have some time to decide, but being a teacher, it is hard to just agree to a name when sometimes there is so much background that goes with it!!

I know that I am blessed with two identical girls. There is a reason for everything - I will continue to get scans/tests, etc. every few weeks. Most recently I had the Nuchal Translucency Test - which is not 100% accurate, followed by the Maternal Serum Screening which tests for Down Syndrome. Now it is more waiting for the results. I will not choose to have an amnio as I do not want to risk this -

I pray each day that the girls are well and that my friends on this board all get the positive news they have been waiting for.

Thank you again for your post - I was so happy to see my name on the thread...I am sorry that I am just responding now. I know that once school lets out, I will be back like before. This group is an incredible support system. Even though we are continents away, I feel so close to you!!

Love,
Denise

Oh Denise

Firstly I am really so sorry about one of the babies not making it. I remember in a previous post you saying that the docs were worried about one of the triplets and was hoping that things were going to be OK. I really am sorry.

I really liked what the minister said to you about why these things happen. I keep asking myself why it had to happen for me when Katelyn was taken away before she had a chance to survive. I questioned God's motives and wondered if there was even a God at all if He could do this to us but then I still pray to Him and ask Him to look after Katelyn and to help me through my next treatment so I do have a faith of sorts. I have never prayed so much in all my life in the last 3 months.

As for having the amnio, well, you know my thoughts on that. I will NEVER have one ever again - if I get that far again that is. Of course we all know the risks and the 1% chance of m/c and it is a decision I know nobody takes with a pinch of salt but I am a totally against them now because of what happened to me.

How lovely - identical twin girls :D :D !!!!!!!!!!! There seems to be a rush on twin girls on these boards at the moment what with Nikola, Tracey S, Jo Radley and now you.

I expect you are looking forward to the school holidays so you can have some well earned rest. I know what you mean about choosing names when you work at a school. There always seems to be a kid with a name you like who is a complete terror!! I worked in a school and was a nanny for 13 years as well and there are some names which send shivers down my spine!!

Look after yourself and your precious little girls and look forward to hearing from you soon. Good luck with the results of your recent tests.

All the best, love Dagny xkx

Denise

How lovely to hear from you - I was delighted to read the news of twin identical girls - yikes! and obviously saddened to hear of the loss of your triplet - it must be mixed feelings - I know you are delighted but losing a baby is always tough as Dagny and I and many others will tell you - whatever the circumstances! Our friend conceived triplets naturally (as far as we know!) and lost one at the same stage - she then went on to have a boy and a girl - both very healthy! At least with all the scan you get to see them more. I know just what you mean about names too!
Have you heard anythign on HEather?
Take care and hope all the tests are ok
love

Thanks Dagny and Tracey....Your words of inspiration mean so much. That is why I always come back to this board. You are so sincere.

Dagny, I agree with you - my faith has gotten stronger especially since this lastest cycle. I value your advice on the amnio, and do not wish to have one. (I am 33.) Whatever God grants me I am blessed and He does give us what we can handle. The courage you display and the encouragement you give others (constantly) is so uplifting. You are a strong support for us all!

Tracey - I am staying positive over the loss, but I do worry each day if the twins are OK...the extra scans I get are reassuring. But there is a reason for everything and now the doctors are saying that the twins will be healthier, delivered more to term, I will be healthier, etc. In addition, we no longer have to sell our condo, get a bigger vehicle, etc. I was filled with joy when the technician found the membrane separating the twins. That was a big moment - thank God!

I have not heard from Heather - but I have not read a lot of posts lately...I am coming back to the boards though......It's always great to have the support here. You are all so helpful!

Stay well!
xo,
Denise
