Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on finding embryos where the parents are willing to have some level of openness? I'm not interested in race, hair color, etc, even medical issues so much (we all have something!) - I'm just hoping to give my child a chance to know later where they come from / who their ancestors are. I'm willing to travel.
Thx!
Sara
Sara, I would recommend looking into some of the adoption agencies like Nightlight Christian Adoptions or Bethany. Both have embryo programs that allow for a closed, semi open, or open adoption. I've looked into them because we are considering donating our embryos and I want to be involved in choosing the adopting couple and make sure that child has access to our family at any time. I have two adopted children and through all of my research I've found it's almost always in the child's best interest to know his genetic history. Ours were international adoptions so when we finally do get a chance to look for their bio parents (we started once but got stalled because of intercountry problems) it's going to be difficult.
I did so much research about embryo donation/adoption when I was first looking into it. I don't remember which organizations do what, but they have options for open semi-open or closed. With that being said I am partial to "miracles waiting" it is not an agency but more like a dating site for potential donors and recipients. There is no gaurantee that you will find someone to donate to you, but the cost is very minimal compared to the cost of agencies. You email them through the site(but they can not see your email address) and can determine what level of openness you want.
There are many people who go on the site and never find anyone, but for me it was such a blessing. We had a couple contact us the first week we signed up, decided to meet them in person. Then they shipped us 8 great quality embryos. Within 6 months of meeting them we were pregnant with our little boy. He is such a miracle and we are so grateful for the couple who was willing to donate to us. We keep in touch via email and they send pics of their twins and we send pics of our little boy. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.
After 7 attempts (2 negatives/3 miscarriages), we have TWO miracle boys!! If you would like to hear our story, please visit http://www.ivfsuccessstories.info. Never give up, it can happen for you!!
I am new here and my husband and I are going through the same process of looking for embryo donation. We are on the list with our clinic, however, we prefer more of an open adoption because we want the child to at least have the option to learn more about their history if they ever wished. Also, we joined miracles waiting, but haven't had much 'movement' there. If you learn of some places, I would love to know of any. Thanks for those of you looking to donate.
