Anyone used a doppler??

Post by caz1 »

Hi all
Was just wondering is anyone an expert with a doppler or at least knows what sounds you're meant to be looking out for!!
We have rented one (because I KEEP panicing  ) and we could hear a regular but quite slow (= to my heart rate I'd guess) whooshing - which I'm guessing is just the increased blood flow around there and then in a TINY spot a clip clop/ or ticking noise - much faaster about 170-180 a minute. Is this the heart beat - I hope so!
Any words of wisdom VERY gratefully received!

Thankyou!

Caz, yes that extremely fast beat is the baby. I remember hearing it around 150 during my pg.

Good luck finding the right place each time. Not easy I know!

hugs,
Debra.

What are you like - Nikola offered me hers but I refused much to my midwife's relief! Sounds like the heartbeat but seems very fast - how do you get on with your midwife? Why don't you ask her to show you and then you know. If this gives you peace of mind then great but I am warning you lady  don't be getting on here in a flap every 5 mins - sometimes they are more trouble than they are worth!

Glad you are ok and baby is bouncing around in the heat

good luck with the doppler but please try and enjoy your pregnancy and not get to obsessed about it - easier said I know!!

My very experienced midwife sometimes had trouble finding my twins heartbeats after 16 weeks of pregnancy as they moved around or turned there back on her (naughty things!!)

Just be aware that you might not always detect a heart beat although that doesn't mean that there isn't one.

Usually the slower beat is yours and the much faster beating is the babies, sometimes they sound like a train or a clip clop like a horse. My 2 sounded totally different some people say that could show the sex, so it will be interesting to see what they are.

Take care and relax

Guys - you'll see I have posted on the just here baord - but TOTALLY agree that there is DEFINATELY a downside to the dopplers. Couldn't find the heat beat the other day and it was AWFUL!
Anyway its hidden away where I can't use it anymore
I think I'd advise people (now!!) not to bother
O well!!
Thanks for you help!Promise I'll try to relax!

Poor you - won't do I told you so  The best time is probably 16 wks and then at 20 you start feeling them move so that's a relief. How long will it be in the cupboard?
