is there anyone else out there in the above Care Trust? I am trying to understand why some Doctors under the above Care Trust pay for drugs and some don't?
Oh by the way I am back after a year's break from the whole IVF thing so good the support here is still going on
I only started posting back in Sept so have not spoken to you before but wanted to let you know the support on here is FANTASTIC
Are you doing IVF/ICSI? and have you started yet?
Sorry cant help as I am attending Southampton clinic.. It may be to do with the "postcode lottery" We live under New Forest health authority and get no funding at all, not even for blood tests yet someone I work with lives in Bitterne(7 miles away) and get all their drugs funded.
I also know someone who lives in Bournemouth and they get the whole tmt funded....SO unfair but thats life.......Sounds like that could be why some at your clinic get funding and others dont.....

I went through one cycle of IVF lwith Southampton clinic ast March. It resulted in a negative result but in my follow up they reckon I actually miscarried very early. I decided to give myself a couple of months break to let my body recoup. But in May we found ourselves in the position where a 3 year old needed a home for a few months and we were in a position in our lives to be able to offer it. So we fostered for about 3-4 months. After she went back I was fine but after another 2 months it looked like the 3 year old needed adopting. We made the decision that we were wanting to do this, but after about 2 stressful months of social workers, etc it all fell apart. After that, I kind of fell apart and thought at one point I was going to need the help of a professional to get myself back on track. I now feel strong enough and understand myself enough to deal with another cycle of IVF. I can't say I am looking forward to it, but I hope I will deal with it better this time.
What stage are you at and how are you finding Southampton?
Hi BB
sounds like you have had a bit of rollercoaster. Glad you are feeling ready to go again.....
You will find this site brilliant as everyone is going through the same emotions etc....
we have some frozen embryos (6 left) and are hoping to start a FET soon.We did ICSI in May last year but I got OHSS and although I wanted ET the Dr advised against it, hence the frosties...(had 2 frosties put back in SEPt which was negative)
The clinic (CHALYBEATE) has closed and a brand new clinic has opened in Anglesea Rd, Shirley.......There have been a lot of delays due to builders which has been a pain because I have been itching to start tmt since before xmas.....They are now open but taking limited appts the first few weeks. Am keeping fingers crossed when AF arrives I can get a day 19 appt and START!!
Have only had 1 tmt so far....it seems that the London clinics are a bit more advanced......they offer a lot of tmts that Southampton dont but we have to take into account and cost and its much easier going local.....The main down side I found was it was like a conveyor belt... i have found out so much more from this site and now attend appts loaded with questions...I think though that a lot of clinics are like this, I suppose it is impossible to not act like a conveyor belt-they are treating so many people...
Apparantly the new clinic is really plush!!
Will you be attending Southampton again? How did you find them? and when do you start again?
Take care

I was very disappointed with Clanlybeate and in particular one of the doctors there. Hence the reason I asked how you found it. I found they didn't really tell me anything, like you I had to go armed with questions. Sometimes I just couldn't ask the questions because, as you rightly point out, we were on a conveyor belt. I am particularly bitter with them for two things:
-the first is that they never offered the counselling or suggested it or gave us anyone to discuss things with
- the second is that they wanted to cancel my treatment before ec cos I add only 2 reasonable sized eggs and some small ones. I was determined to continue and they went on to collect about 10 eggs, of which 4 fertillised, 2 theyreplaced and the remaining 2 were not worth freezing. But if I hadn't gone through 5 months of treatment to get to that stage (endo treatment) I might have agreed to abandon!!
After saying all that though I might still use them. Dorchester are the other one on our list. We shall see. I still am trying to sort out funding!
Anyway, I had forgotten how much of the working day we can loose on this website. Must do some work
I am surprised re counselling, when we had our first consultation we were given an appt for counselling which to be honest I was not that bothered about but took anyway....we did not have subsequent counselling but it was offered......thats really bad, I thought that was mandatory
Which Dr were you not happy with?
I had my EC done by Chantelle Simony but she is no longer there. I found her really nice...
Take care

no what you mean about the funding.......we have spent £5000 so far and still not pg........will have to shell out another £600 for fet.........Really dont know what we will do if we have to fund another full cycle....
the Doctor was the Eastern Asian girl - I don't really remember names.
The funding is killing me as my drugs cost £3000 last time and this time they would be looking at doubling that!! So I think I will have to start looking for drug suppliers.
I have been in touch with some government bod about the equalities about the payment of the drugs. But he simply does not understand the differences in paying for the treatment and paying for the drugs. I suppose I could move doctors??? Hmmm I might investigate that!
Primary care that focuses on the optimum level of health and wellness is the primary need of an individual. Attaining the highest level of health is truly difficult to achieve. But if there are physicians that are truly committed in providing the highest level and comprehensive approach to care then worry no more. Good to know that they are there, not just to treat us, but to provide the optimum health and wellness that we need.
