My husband and I are gearing up to go through our first round of IVF next month. We are 25 and 26 years old. I have PCOS, and he has low sperm motility. We have been told that our chances of conceiving naturally would be less than half a percent. We didn't even try IUI, since the chances of success were around 5%. We decided it would be more beneficial to save our money and put it towards IVF. (Of course, like many of you I'm sure, insurance doesn't cover a thing!! grrr..) I constantly feel upset that we have to go through this at such a young age. Neither one of us have done anything to lesson our chances of conceiving, and yet we are plagued with this. We have only told our parents...not another person knows (well, unless you are reading this, haha) and it seems as though they really don't understand what it feels like to go through this. I know they are trying to be supportive, but sometimes what they say just isn't the right thing.
I'm looking for other people going through similar things, so know that there is a light at the end of this dark infertility tunnel!

I have PCOS as well and my husband has low morphology, his motility is good, or so I am told... I have found that not telling our family, but confiding in a couple of very close friends, has been much more beneficial. Friends are uplifiting and supportive, which sometimes family is not... I have also made a really great friend as traveling through this process...
I never imagined that it would be this hard to have a family with the man that I love. We have been seeing our RE for 6 months and we have been diligintly taking the necessary steps that our insurance requires in order for them to cover our process. We are very fortunate that we have insurance that does cover infertility. I have an appointment with my RE this week and we can cinfidently walk into her office and show her that all we have been doing has brought us to a point where we can start our process. I have taken 5 cycles of clomid, with no success. Our insurance does require that we start with IUI's first, so I am a little bit behind your progress.
Where are you located where insurance doesn't cover? I would love to be able to stay updated and trade stories on here! When is your next appointment and what are they expecting to happen at that point??

It's nice to know that we aren't the only ones out there with these problems. 
We live in Central Pennsylvania....I have talked with some other people from PA, with different insurance than us, who have gone through IVF, and none of their's was covered through insurance either. I know that some states require that companies cover at least part of it, but Pennsylvania isn't one of them.

As far as we know, no one in our families has had any troubles having children. I have found that my Aunt has PCOS as well, but never had any problems having children. (She has two)
We are currently waiting for my cycle to start, so that we can make our next appointment and begin our first IVF cycle. This waiting is one of the most frustrating parts! I've never had a cycle that had any consistency to it, but was always told growing up that I would grow out of it. (I never did...) So, now we wait (until the end of April) to see if it starts on it's own, and then go in, or if it doesn't start on it's own, take Provera for 10 days, to make it start.

Hello! I'm sorry to interject on your conversation. I am in awe of what you have had to go through. I just had my first visit today to start my IVF journey. I am 24 and my husband is 35. My husband has a son (that lives with us) that took him and his exwife 3 years to conceive but that was because of an issue she had. I have had 2 miscarriages (one was a molar pregnancy) and we have been seeing our RE for about 3 years now. We have done 2 rounds of chlomid, 2 IUI's, and now going to venture down the road of IVF. I am hopeful that this will be what works for us. I am just as equally looking for someone my age who is having fertility issues. Everyone my age is getting pregnant "accidentally" and it is heartbreaking to see how easy it is for them. We have had so many tests but the doctor has found NOTHING wrong. We are hoping to overcome whatever it is that is preventing a pregnancy through IVF. I wish you luck on your journey and can't wait to hear how your appointments go. GL!

Has your RE explained why you are not able to conceive on your own?? I have a condition called PCOS which prevents ovulation. May I ask.... How were the IUI's? I should be starting those in June and was kind of wondering what to expect...

sassicassi - I can totally related to most of the people our age getting pregnant on "accident!" It seems like it should be such a basic thing, but isn't for people like us. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for you not to have a reason for infertility. I hope that IVF is a success for you and your husband!

Do either of you find it is difficult or that you almost feel resentful towards those people who get pregnant "on accident"?? A girlfriend of mine just gave birth yesterday to a little boy and I cannot even bring myself to go see her or the baby.... As much as I love children and want to be a mom so bad, it hurts to be around babies....

Babywishin926, I know that I most definitely feel awful around people who have "accidental" babies. My brother-in-law and wife had a baby last August, while we were TTC, and it was very hard to go and see them in the hospital. I am also a teacher, so it makes it especially difficult to see children everyday who are neglected, and need someone to love them.
My husband and I try to avoid situations that make us feel bad about seeing babies and such...but, sometimes, you just can't. I personally don't think that there is anything wrong with avoiding baby showers, and seeing new babies. And, I'm sure if you explained to your friend that it's all just a bit too painful to see a new baby, especially in the hospital, she would understand.
My UPDATE: Talked with my RE today, we are starting our first IVF cycle this month! Yay! I have blood work in 2 days, and then I am on birth control for approx. 2 weeks, and then we start our injections with retrieval in about another 2-3 weeks. I have been wishing for this for a while now, but I'm still so nervous about it all! I don't know whether to be excited, anxious, nervous, or what?! Hopefully I can look back in a couple of months, and say how much the anxiety is all worth it!

I wanted to say too that I have had a horrible time with seeing others get pregnant or have babies. I too have a brother-in-law and they just found out that their pregnant. Hi ladies! I am glad to see that we are not the only other young couple going through this problem. I am 26 and have PCOS. My husband is 29 with low morphology. We have been TTC for 16 months. We have done 6 rounds of clomid (one IUI in there) with my regular OB, and then moved onto a RE and did 1 round of clomid w/ injectibles, Ovidrel, and IUI. We just finished another round using femara w/ injectibles, Ovidrel, and IUI. We have to figure out today what we want to do next. Either all injectibles and one more IUI or move onto IVF. I didn't realize the IVF process can take almost 8 weeks. I just assumed it was a month long like a regular cycle. We have the means to do it, but wondering if we could get pg by trying another IUI. However, if it is negative, I don't think I could handle it. This whole process is such a rollercoaster ride. Hope to hear back with some input. Baby dust to all.

Hello! Welcome to the group! I am in the process of starting my IVF/IUI cycle on the 16th whe I go to the RE. No pregnancies as of yet for me, however a close friend of mine has had all three of her children through the process here in Massachusetts!
