Anna -- Sounds like you are very busy! So nice of you to help your 18 year old sister with her new baby though. Pregnant and all!

Anna, Karen, Rio, Mellow, Karin, Klinger, Margi, Barbara, and KarenVancouver -- Thanks so much for your support with my families response. I really had hoped for some excitement from them but all I got was ambivalence and raised eyebrows. Oh well... I can't let it ruin me. We are happy and that's all there is to it. We haven't shared our news with many people yet. We have not told my husbands family yet. We will do that in April as we see them. I like to deliver this news in person. I have not told people at work yet. Only my boss knows. She keeps asking when I'm going to let the "secret" out. I think I might tell them at our staff meeting next week.

Ryann -- I have no doubts you and DH are going to be amazing parents! Screw everyone who believes otherwise. That's how I'm looking at it. I am getting similar criticism. I'm sorry about your heart issue! I worry about my blood pressure. It was borderline high before pregnancy. Now it's normal with the pregnancy hormones on board but will probably go up at the end (hopefully not too much). My heartrate is always very slow... 48-52 awake and resting, around 70 if walking, and 140's with strenuous exercise. And I love the names you've picked out.

AFM -- I'm using my fetal doppler every evening after dinner and it makes me feel much better to hear the hb. I have my Nuchal Translucency on April 5th when I will be 12w4d. I know it's not diagnostic and is a "risk assessment" for chromosomal abnormalities but I'm worried about getting a borderline result. I had a friend who had an abnormal NT and who then was a complete worried wreck for the next month until she could have an amnio only to find all all was OK. Does anyone know how common an abnormal NT is? I've heard it only correlates to an abnormal baby in 20-60% of cases. There's a part of me that sorta doesn't want to do it. Did you all do it? Were the results immediate? Did anyone have an abnormal result and need further testing? I'm just not sure how much to worry about this. :? Any input is appreciated.

Lou...Thank you! I have no doubt either about our parenting skills, I just don't like how people can't keep their negativity to themselves! My heart rate has always been in the "normal" range and now when I'm just sitting there it is up in the 130s or 140s! Yikes! In terms of the NT. We couldn't do the blood draw part because it was twins, but we kind of went into with the attitude that 1. it is not full-proof,2. we could get results we don't want to hear, 3. just because they say all looks ok doesn't mean we are going to have perfect babies, and 3. it was just another opportunity to see them dancing on the screen. So in the end, getting to see them again trumped all. And the thought that they would take a guess at the gender ( which they did) was icing on the cake. It's very personal I guess. We also asked ourselves if we would terminate if there wasa chance that the baby had chromosomal abnormalities, and decided we wouldn't anyways. If we found out they the babies had something that was not compatible with life, it would hurt the same, so we did it.

Karenvancouver - I am with you on the emotional part. I was crying laying in bed next to my son after he fell asleep that one day he will grow up and not want to cuddle or won't need me and I was just there sobbing like an idiot!!! :)

Lou - Do the tests but know that there are false positives. My first AFp blood came messed up and my odds were terrible, than I did the quad test and level II and the odds were fantastic that bean was great, yes I freaked out for a month. But I am the type of person who wants to know. Look at poor Tess who at her level II discovered her son had no possibility of surviving at birth, it was better to find out then instead of at delivery 4 months later. I would rather terminate a pregnancy then to follow all the way through only to find out at birth something is wrong. Also there are a lot of things they can prepare for, if the baby has a heart condition they can be ready to operate once it is born or deliver the baby a wee early. Some people opt to not know. It is very personal.

SD - thanks! I like some milestones to make me feel safer and I had forgotten the magic week when baby had a chance at life without too much risk of defects. How is your SIL and baby? wonderful I hope, they are always in my prayers!

Ryann - glad you are feeling better, we decided to keep our name choices secret (not form the board) because too many people have too many opinions and I don't care to hear them, it is our choice. Like when we picked Alexander for our son, sdaughter kept telling us how she hates the neam Alexander and etc. Well who cares we named him that nayway and we love it, she can pack sand. I don't want to go through that again so no one is finding out!

Hey girls.

I got home late last night after being stuck in traffic for an accident and the baby had a meltdown (so did mama). Just now got on the computer.

Labor and delivery was awesome. I decided to do a few thing around the house (a load of laundry and a few other things) to try to get things moving on their own. DH was going to tie up a few things at work as well. DH got home a little afte4r 6 pm. We did a few things then left about 7, stopped at Chick-Fil-A on the way so DH could eat (this might have been the hardest part of the evening for me  ). Got to hospital at 7:30, got checked in and in the room around 8ish, got a quickie u/s done, was checked as still at 6cm, signed consents and stuff, got the epidural around 8:30 (the anesthesiologist actually had a bit of trouble and had to try a few times then had to do a higher one...it was all numb, but was uncomfortable because I was hunched over). The waited a little for it to take full effect then started the ptocin and broke my water around 9. I could just barely feel pressure with the contraction, just enough to know when they were coming. The Dr checked again at 11:15 and I was fully dilated. She had the nurse adjust the bed so I was sitting straight up to allow the baby to decsend. I thought she was since I could feel a slight pressure. Around midnight the said we would start. The nurse rearranged me and I was almost crowning. Did 6 or 7 pushes with the nurse and the Dr came in hurried up and got dressed, then had me push once more. Then we had to stop becuase the cord was around her neck (freak out moment, but she waas monitored he whole time and was ok). Once that was done I did one more push ad the baby shot out. At first no cry they had to suction her for what seemed like an eternity, but ewas probably about 3 sec. I was also I little freaked cause she was so pale, but the realized it was just vernix/ (the cheesy coating). So started pushing shortly after midnight and she was here at 12:24. She was 6#10oz and 20.5 inch long. I had a few small tears and got a few stitches, bit all went easy.

The only bad part was after all was over. The took out the epidural and let it wear off, gave me fluids and wanted me to pee and then were going to send me to PP. The nurse helped me walk to the bathroom since the epidural hadn't completely worn off and I peed a ton. I went to stand up and rinse off with a bottle of water like the nurse said and my legs started shaking so bad, by the time the nurse came in to the bathroom from just outside the door my whiole body was shaking bad, like convulsions. A couple nurse got a wheelchair and got me back in bed. I shook for 2 hours. My BP is normally low about 100/70, but it was really low (70/50) and my pulse was like 140. DH said I ws so pale. I am really sensitive to meds, so i wonder if the epidual stuff was still messing with me, or what. So I spent the next 4 hours on L&D getting my BP checked every 10 minutes, before we went to PP. Apart from that craziness, it was an awesome delivery.

We took forever to name her but finallly decided on Rachel Elizabeth. DH really wanted it and really didn't like Emma whereas I had already been calling her Emma in my mind for months. So I was a little dissapointed, but then I realized how much DH gave up. He already had his kids and got them out of the house and had no desire to have more. When things got serious between us we had "the talk" of I want kids and it would be a deal breaker if he didn't. After a rocky few weeks, he decided he loved me enough to want to be with me and start a family all over again. And this was all before all the IF/IVF trouble at which point he could have said it was fate, but he didn't. And we ended up doing IVF totally OOP. So I figured if Daddy was able to compromise on his "no more kids" stand and go through IVF then Mommy could compromise on a name that was still on her short list.

Things overall are going well. Breast feeding is moving alond slowly. She latches pretty well and just tonight I an noticing that I am starting to get a little engorged. She had trouble getting used to her crib. This morning at 5 was the first time I got her to sleep in it (it is in our bedroom). All last night I was a constant battle to stop the screams, but today she has done much better. She is sleeping quietly in her crib now.

I'll post some pics tomorrow.

I have my Nuchal Translucency on April 5th when I will be 12w4d. I know it's not diagnostic and is a "risk assessment" for chromosomal abnormalities but I'm worried about getting a borderline result. Lou. Sorry to crash but this is regarding testing. I second what Rio said 1000%. I had a similar situation with my first son (cycled with Rio), my blood test had a super scary result and was on pins and needles until amnio results. This pregnancy we did CVS (you get the test/results earlier and our clinic had similar risk percentages as amnio). On a side note, I am 41 years old. Also, both times I had vanishing twins so that messes the blood test results. It is a very personal decision but I did a lot of research and having a good clinic performing the procedure is fundamental. PM me if you need more information. Both procedures were painless for me (after going through so much in this IF journey) and the peace of mind that everything is Ok is priceless. We were going to accept dissabilities but wanted to be prepared.
GOOD LUCK.

Didi - Congratulations on the birth of Rachel Elizabeth!! (My oldest is Rachel too so I love the name.) I loved reading your birth story and I'm so glad everything turned out great in the end, though I'm sure the cord part and your shaking part were frightening to say the least. Can't wait to see the pics and again CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Didi --- Congratulations!!! Can't wait to see pics of baby Rachel!

Rio and miamibaby -- Thanks for your input on the testing. I will have the NT and AFP done keeping in mind that an abnormal result does not definitely mean abnormal baby. If it is abnormal, I think I will be too late for a CVS as I think you need that done between 10 & 12 weeks, right? I'll already be 12w4d at my screening so I guess I'd have to wait for 15-16 weeks for the amnio. <sigh>

AFM -- 11 weeks today! Only a couple more weeks until I'm out of the first trimester. I lost my last baby between weeks 10 & 12 so I'm still quite nervous. I did find the heartbeat with my doppler that night so I slept well at least. I also had an acupuncture treatment last night. I've been going weekly and will go 1 or 2 more times.

didi - Congrats on your baby girl. Can't wait to see pics.

SD- Glad to see your niece is doing so well. When they are born that early its is really a scary situation.

Here is my question for today, when did you start having sex again? I really wantto but my RE said no intercourse till hb. I posted a question on SIRM website asking the medical reasoning behind no intercourse and was told that there is no real medical reasoning. Sometimes when ladies have intercourse there is spotting and they just don't want people to freak out. so that pretty much gives me the green light. I am kind of scared to do the deed but my hormones are also going crazy. Last night my DH just put his hand on my leg and it turned me on. that's how much i need some. Sorry if TMI.

Didi.......CONGRATULATIONS! Rachel Elizabeth is a beautiful name and I'm sure it suits her nicely! :D Thanks for sharing your story. Made me tear up a bit. What a wonderful experience! I can't wait! :D

To.have.fun.....I understand how you must be feeling. We waited until I was 12 wks. I was worried at first, but there was no spotting or anything. My RE said no sex in the first trimester and I didn't want to risk it.(My RE released me at 11wks) Once my nausea and bitchiness kicked in at 6wks and I suddenly didn't want to anyway. My nausea left at about 16wks and things are kinda normal now. We are still careful, but not nearly as worried.

We did it during the 2WW (two days before beta) and have since then... The issue, as it was explained to me, was that the cervix can be easily irritated and can cause you to spot after sex. The doctor didn't want us to freak out. We did it and I didn't spot. Honestly, I probably still would have freaked out had I spotted so I'm really glad that I didn't.

Unfortunately, my belly is getting big now and the baby moves all the time so my sexy attitude is seriously declining. :(
