About to start treatment!

Post by vicky1707 »

Hi everyone,

Me and my DH have just rang our IVF unit yesterday to start our 5th cycle of IVF. We've had 3 fresh cycles and 1 frozen cycle previously. This cycle is another frozen cycle. We've had 10 blastocyst eggs left over from our last fresh cycle.

I have previously been on other message boards but thought I would start a new thread and just see if anyone else is due to go through treatment in the next few months.

Things have changed at our unit now and when I telephoned them yesterday they informed me that all patients have to take the contracpetive pill! Doesn't quite sound right going back onto the pill when trying for a baby! :D

Has anyone else had to do this?

So me and DH are back on the rollacoaster ride now of another cycle! I'm excited but nervous at the same time! We only really have this cycle and another frozen cycle left and then we're gonna have to look at other options, so really hoping this time round it works.

It seems I have a slight problem when it comes to the thickness of the lining of the womb when they transfer the embryos. So i think this time the unit are trying me on Viagra! I'm also gonna try acupunture this time round.

Has anyone got any other suggestions for making the lining of the womb thicker?

I'm hoping that the doctors will concentrate on making the lining thicker as they seem to think that's what's been the problem with the last cycles, especially as everything else through the cycle goes brilliantly.

Would be really nice to speak to someone who has just started a cycle.

Thanks guys

Hi Vicky!

So glad you are about to cycle again! The pill does seem strange but I had to take it. Do you get to transfer 2 as it is a frozen cycle?

Good luck, I have got everything crossed for you

Hello you!

How is motherhood? :D

Yeah we decided it was time to go through another cycle. We've had a good year & half off. We all all relaxed and ready for this frozen cycle.

I'm not sure how many they will transfer. We haven't had our first appt yet! I hope they do tho!

I was surprised when they said about taking the pill again - I've never had to do it!

Motherhood is amazing, Freddie is perfect (although I think I am slightly biased) we are just planning a 1st birthday party. I am back at work and wishing I could be a stay at home mum

Yeah, I had to take the pill to regulate my cycle which seemed so wrong! I am not sure about the viagra though! I think they said to us that they transfer 2 for a frozen cycle which would scare me now but would have been my preference if we had had the choice.

I look forward to hearing your good news!

Wow, 1 already! Doesn't time fly eh :D

I didn't have to take the pill last time, although it is better for me seeing as my periods can be very irregular!

Well apparently Viagra is supposed to help with making the lining of the womb thicker. I will give anything a try this time round! :D

I will keep you posted on how things go.

Hopefully 2011 will be me and DH's year! :D

Hi Vicky, I am embarking on FET#4. I had a successful IVF in 2005 and I had three frozen embies from that cycle. I did SET embryos but they did not take. I did 2 more IVF cycles that were canceled. One due to fertilization and one to OHSS. I have three embroys from these past 2 cycles. I have been on BCP for about three weeks. It helps to regulate the cycle for the doctor. I too have problems with my lining. My doc will not prescribe viagra becuase he says it is too expensive and does not work for everyone. I will be doing accupuncture and have been taking herbs. Hoping that this cycle is the last one for us.

Vicky- I thought it was crazy to be taking birth control pills when you are trying to get pregnant, but it is normal! The 6th cycle was the one for us, I'm sorry that you have been through sooo much, but it is all worth it in the end.
After 7 attempts (2 negatives/3 miscarriages), we have TWO miracle boys!! If you would like to hear our story, please visit http://www.ivfsuccessstories.info. Never give up, it can happen for you!!

Vicky - Yes it does seem crazy that you have to take BCP's. I have always thought the same thing. I have seen the viagra suppositories used lots of times. hope that is what your RE is referring too. I have heard just taking the regular viagra pills do not help. I have also seen gals take telbomitin(sp) or something like that which is also supposed to help with the lining.

Good Luck !!!

Hello Vicky – I agree with the other ladies about the BCP. I too have been prescribed the BCP for my cycles. It helps ensure that your cycle is exactly where the physician wants it prior to the transfer. I want to wish you good luck to you for your upcoming cycle.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your comments and wishes - really means a lot :D

Hopefully I'll be joining one of the threads soon when I finally start the treatment properly. I've got the pleasure of contacting the unit tomorrow to arrangement payment (!) and then get details for my 1st appt and when I start my down reg meds!

I've been suffering a bit this weekend - started with a migraine on Saturday and it's really washed me out :( I do suffer with migraines, even when I haven't been on the pill. Did anyone have any side effects with the pill? It's been well over 6 years since I've taken any form of contracption so I think my body just isn't used to it!

Hi for the thickness of the lining try Eyal Politi, the ivfherbalsupport.com site that advertises here. I tried them with my last cycle with frozen sperm , and I bet you the Doctors were amazed at how thick my lining had become , from 7mm from previous cycles to 15mm not to talk of the quality ovary they saw during the scan of the womb; they wondered how I could have had such a quality ovum naturally. I am perfectly ok, but DH has low sperm count. That cycle I at least passed the 2WW without a sign of spotting. I believe the herbs I got from the name mentioned above helped me a lot. I intend to use it a gain when I try the next cycle with a donor sperm. Visit their website and see things for yourself, you never know what might help. Best of luck! mally

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven't been on here for a while but me and DH have had a very traumatc few weeks! The day we started treatment my mother-in-law was admitted to hospital and diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately she died at the beginning of March. It's just been so awful. We feel the treatment has kind of taken a backseat. There has been a lot of rushing about to make it home in time for injections, patch changes and tablets!

As far as treatment is going its going well. I started the hormone patches & viagra tablets 2 weeks ago. I've now had to double up on my patches and I go for another scan tomorrow. The lining at my last scan was measured at 6.8 so everything is going to plan. The unit is thinking of next week for my embryo transfer. I'll be making sure the lining is as thick as they can get it before they transfer. Not taking any chances this time!

I did really want to go through some acupunture at the beginning of the treatment but of course with the sad loss we had I didn't get chance to have any. I'm going for one session on Friday and hopefully a few more next week before transfer and then a session the day of transfer. The acunpunctist did suggest it would have been best at the beginning of treatment but said it wouldn't do any harm by having a few sessions before transfer. We'll give anything a try! :D

Angie - Happy 1st Birthday to Freddie :D

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions :D

Will keep you posted
