Does wearing body lotions&perfumes on ER&ET days cause BFN?

My clinic gave instructions that said specifically to avoid any scents for me or for DH. I was told that embryos can react poorly to odors. They drilled this into us several times and even asked if I was wearing any the morning of ET. As to how bad it really is, that I don't know. But for them to be so emphatic about it, there must be some proof of poor outcomes associated with it.

My clinic too was very adamant in their instructions about not wearing anything scented. I didn't even wear deodorant. When you smell something - that is the chemical floating through the air. The idea is to keep fragile embryos from being exposed to chemicals.

That being said, if you were overly scented and the doctor feared it would be an issue, I think that they would have noticed the scent and said something. Perhaps the bulk of the lotion rubbed off in your clothes and did not go into the room with you.

yes, scents are an issue around eggs/ embryos BUT:

i think it would be a much bigger issue if the staff who were working with your eggs/ embryo's were the ones wearing the perfumes... cause they are the ones with much more exposure to them.. a transfer is pretty quick- and they go from a secluded tube to inside your body, where scents can't bother them .. i believe this is why your RE didn't ask you to go fix it.. they want good statistics - all clinics do-.. hopefully they also heartfully want you to have a baby.

if i was in your shoes, i'd call and ask to talk to him about this, cause you sound pretty worried, and although there is nothing you can do about the outcome (perfume or not), you can do something to ease any urge to beat yourself up or obsess... and if you're anything like me- you're pretty good at both of those.. just ask to chat with him about it- it could go a long long way to easing your mind

My first clinic was very big on the no perfumes colones etc.. my second clinic never mentioned one iota about it and they have much better success rates then the first. i really don't think that scents can contribute to a BFN so i wouldn't worry too much about it.

I wouldn't worry too much. During ER I think it would have been an issue, ET not so much. During ET they are already nice and snug in a tube and that is only in the room for seconds before they are inside momma. My RE didn't tell me to avoid scents except for ER so I think you are okay.. Don't worry, the worry is more harmful than perfume.
