more waiting...

Post by kju »

hello everyone

well we had our setup appointment yesterday, we filled in forms etc and were given the consent forms to talk about and complete at home, also had more blood tests taken

as we have male factor problems my DP had to have some genetic screening done, this sounded a bit worrying, is this standard procedure?

it looks like it'll be a while before we can get started as the tests take at least 6 weeks to come back, I have to do another blood test on day 2-4 of my next AF

our clinic do a long protocol starting on day 21, so providing the tests are all ok it looks like I will be a september cycler, it seems ages away... :(

we have been pencilled in for a baseline scan on 22/9, we are a bit disappointed as we thought we would start much earlier than that... but if the tests come back before that we may be able to start in august (fingers crossed)

I found out a bit more about the drugs I will be using, for d/r I will be injecting suprecur and then the stimms will be gonal f using injector pen thingys which looked more friendly than the syringe for the suprecur!

thanks for all your replies to my first post, i hope everyone is doing ok and good luck to everyone cycling at the moment

Kirsten, September will be here before you know it :D And just think, you can relax over the summer, get yourself ready and then, just when the weather turns, you can start tmt.

I envy your genetic testing. It's illegal here but I would have liked it anyway. Two of my nephews have a v.unusal sight problem. It's one of those millions to one chance of their combined parental genes. I asked but we couldn't be screened for it. I think anything you can do or be checked out for before tmt, only for the better.

Glad to hear things are starting (albeit too slowly for you!).

hugs,
Debra.

Kirsten,

My clinic puts me on the long protocol too and I know it's discouraging to wait that long. I actually had to be on BCP's for 2 months beforehand as well. Debra is right though. September will be here quick enough. Just try to enjoy the summer.

As far as the genetic testing (we have male factor issues as well), it is optional here. Apparently, there is a condition which makes it very unlikely that the embryos will implant and the genetic testing screens for that. We were going to do it but the cost was so high (almost USD 2,000) that we ended up deciding not to....at least not yet. I think we'd probably consider it before doing another fresh cycle though.

thanks both for your replies, I feel better about the genetic testing as i should look at it as a good thing rather than a bad one...

I was just a bit surprised about the wait, too impatient as always :) but will take your advice and enjoy the summer and prepare for the tmt
