Special approach's did you do to get a BFP, everyone wants t

Post by amiahjordan »

I have read the question from newbies or people that have constantly had BFN (like me) asking people that have had BFP, what special things did you do? Anything and everything would give me and so many others hope and believe me we will try anything at this point. So even if it seems small or even crazy please contribute! Anything from what vitamins or supplements you took, what movies you watched, how long you stayed in bed, what foods you ate, what books you read. Anything will help and make me at least believe in miracles...lord knows I need one right now! :?

First, I must say that obviously any suggestions (I give) are from my experience....not everything works for everyone. I think that is part of the "trick" is figuring out what works best for you. Especially in terms of protocol. I think it is important to have an RE that listens to you...and is willing to try things differently if they first don't succeed.

That said...personal things that I did? I did take supplements before my final (and successful) cycle. I took DHEA, COQ10, Maca root, and I would have taken Royal Jelly except I am allergic to bees.

I made some subtle dietary changes based on this interesting study/article. Changed some of my protein sources and ate some full fat dairy every day, for example. I think it is interesting because some of the results seem counter-intuitive.

http://www.newsweek.com/2007/12/01/fat- ... ption.html

I also did acupuncture and I am a firm believer in the benefits of acupuncture. There are some studies that suggest it may improve chances, but regardless of direct effect, I found it to be very relaxing and stress reducing which in and of itself is very helpful when you are cycling. I also did it directly after transfer.

I also listened to guided imagery. There are some specific to IVF--the ones I purchased had specific CD/mp3 for each week of the process--I found them very relaxing and helped me to focus positive energy.

I know that bed rest is controversial regarding its effectiveness. I know plenty of women that report they got BFP with no bed rest. For me, my first cycle--bedrest=ectopic. My 2nd and 3rd no bedrest=BFN, m/c. My third cycle was 48 hours of bed rest and BFP. Now, there was also difference in RE's as well.

This last cycle I also was on more support than in previous cycles post-IVF--baby aspirin, estrogen, progesterone-orally, crinone, claritin, Medrol and z-pac.

I don't know if you found any of this to be helpful of not...

I wish you the best success!!!!!!!!

Margi26- thanks for that info. I was going to take royal jelly but had NO IDEA that you can't do it if you are allergic to bees (which I am highly allergic)

The guided imagery CD's were recommended to me by another woman on the site...sorry I forget who to give them the credit!!

The website is a bit cheesy, but I really liked the CDs. In fact, I am in the process of ordering her pregnancy ones!

Here's what I did, some of them are silly but made me feel like I was doing all I possibly could.

1. Didn't have a major issue but had a fibroid on the outside of my uterus so I had a laparoscopy to remove it. While in there, my doc removed a bit of endometriosis and did a D&C as well. I really think that "cleaning" helped my BFP. Since I had two BFN's in a row with perfect blasts prior to that leading me to think, implantation failure.

2. I took DHEA 25mg three times a day (checked my levels every 2-3 weeks), Wheat Grass 5-10 tabs daily, CoQ10 400 daily, and Royal Jelly 2 tbsp daily. All of which I purchased through Vitacost. I took these for nearly 12 weeks before my successful IVF cycle.

3. I think this is really important. I had my vitamin D levels checked and they were low. So I took prescription Vitamin D 50,000 units once a week plus over the counter Vitamin D 2000 units daily. http://www.medwire-news.md/45/83760/ObG ... ccess.html

4. I did acupuncture weekly for 8-10 weeks prior to my cycle. Very important. My acupuncturist also put me on herbs for three weeks prior to my IVF cycle. I took Wen Jing Tang as suggested by my acupuncturist who is also a TCM practictioner. I stopped the day of my baseline prior to starting stims. http://www.sacredlotus.com/formulas/get ... jing_tang/

5. REALLY important. I did acupuncture immediately before and immediately after ET. I had the acupucturist with me at the clinic for this. It cost me $275, but was soooo worth it. See if your clinic works with someone who does this. That's where I got my acupucturist from that day. Otherwise, I went to another practitioner for my weekly visits. I continued weekly sessons until 12 weeks pregnant.

6. I ate Chinese food after ET. My RE said that's what worked for him and his wife who have twins, so hey, I figured it was worth a try. I also ate 1/5 of a pineapple core and all daily for 5 days starting with ET day.

7. I meditated and chanted to myself that I WILL conceive and I AM pregnant. I did this every couple of days in the 2WW. I thought of doing some other "spells" but they seemed silly. I did the Pregnancy Spell at the top of this page a few times though as it was easy enough. http://www.morespells.com/fertilityspellsspell.htm

8. I wore an African Fertility Goddess Charm sent to me by an IVF buddy who it also worked for. Mine looks a lot like this one. http://www.newage-xpression.com/Fertili ... D23TAQ.htm

9. I only rested on the couch the day of ET and went back to work the next day (not a physically strenuous job but does involve walking). Not sure extra "rest" is even a good thing.

10. I prayed and asked God to grant me this and I kept my PMA.

I did 5 days of bedrest following transfer. Since the day of transfer I have not lifted anything heavier than a gallon of milk. Even after my 5 days of bedrest and returning to work I took it REALLY easy. I ate full fat dairy, as reccommended by someone else on the site. I talked to my embryos as if they were already my babies from day 1. I never once let myself think in the "if I am pregnant". I immediately switch my way of thinking to "I am pregnant". I also began wearing a st. Gerard madallion around my neck about a year before I finally made it to transfer and he is still firmly placed there. I also held a st. Gerard rosary in my hand, as well as holding DH's hand during transfer, while saying the prayer to st. Gerard in my head. I Wish you the best of luck on your journey!

I drank Traditional Medicinals red raspberry tea up until the day of transfer, after transfer I have a weak cup of Traditional Medicinals Organic Pregnancy tea (caffeine free) every day (I used the same tea bag to make a few more cups throughout the day. I did pre and post ET acupuncture and I went for acupuncture in the window of my implantation days. I also had a few pieces of pineapple and core a day and a cup of organic grape juice everyday for a week.

A friend of mine who had a transfer the week after me did the same thing with the acu and tea and she jut got a BFP too!!
