Which stool softeners would you all recommend? I thought my prenatal had docusate in it to prevent constipation, but I guess the Zofran is just too much for my body.

Blair Zofran gave me terrible constipation and so my doctor had me take "Colase" stool softener as well as eating baby prune foods. I also made sure to eat high fiber Oatmeal every day. While its true that both progesterone and pre-natal vitamins can contribute to constipation but for me I was so morning sick I had to have Zofran and with it came horrible constipation....Hope this helps

Stephanie -- Great twin belly pic! You've made it past 30 weeks, woo hoo! Sorry the closings got delayed. How annoying! My DH is helping his brother's family move today.

Blair -- Glad the Zofran is working for you. I am a pharmacist and I definitely recommend taking Colace (docusate) 100 mg daily. If the constipation is really bad, take 30 ml of Milk of Magnesia at bedtime and that should work by morning. It does the trick for me! I really hate prune juice, but it does work too.

Mellow -- Glad you're hanging in there and hope you continue to do will for several more weeks. Thanks for keeping us updated and I hope you are able to continue to do that.

Ashley -- I agree with Sonya... when DH is pregnant, then he can pick the diet!!!

Sonya -- Happy 29 weeks for you! You are going to love being a SAHM. Love your belly pic. It's beautiful!

AFM -- I had my 16 week appt this morning! The baby's heart rate was 156 and looked just right for 16 weeks according to the nurse midwife I saw today. I also had my AFP drawn today and found out my risk of trisomy is < 1/10,000 not 1/1000 as the dumb tech told me on the phone. I was lucky to get a quick u/s, but it was on the old grainy machine. It was nice to see my baby moving around though. We tried to see the gender, but it's still early and a bit fuzzy, but she couldn't see any "obvious male parts" and said she couldn't be too sure at this point. My Level II is in a couple of weeks so I should be able to find out then. I can't wait!

Lou- Congrats on the good news and the healthy Ultrasound. Sounds to me like it may be a little girl in there!! Not sure whether I will pick up Colace or Senna-S (which DH recommended- hes an MD). I guess I will see what my options are at the drug store.

Anna- Thanks for the oatmeal and baby food advice. I have been having high fiber toast in the mornings but no luck so I may have to invest in oatmeal.

Thanks to all of you for the advice- I will be heading to the drug store on my way home from work today to pick something up. One more question for those who took Zofran. When you took it how long did it work? The reason Im asking is because I took it at 5:45 this morning and already started to feel sick again by 11:30 or so. I thought it was supposed to last at least 6-8 hours so I wasnt sure what was going on .

Senna-S has 50 mg docusate in it along with a stimulant laxative. It is probably fine for short term use only and is pregnancy category C so most OB's don't recommend it. No reports of congenital malformations or anything like that. I think the Category C is because stimulants can possibly cause uterine contractions although the medication has not been associated with spontaneous miscarriage. It can also decrease estradiol levels. Strange.

Lou- Funny you say that....10 seconds after I posted DH sent me a msg saying it was a C and I should probably contact my MD before taking it. I will probably just call and ask and end up sticking with the Colace. Thanks again for the advice- hope it works because it makes me feel blah being all blocked up.

Blair-I had days where I needed more zofran before the 6-8 hours and I would try to stick it out. I actually only took it when I had already vomitted twice because I hated being so backed up. Total double edge sword! Call hour doc though because he might be able to change the dosage. Mine was going to add reglan if the zofran alone didn't do the trick. Good luck!!!

Hi everyone... just wanted to pop in and say hi. I haven't been on in several weeks (since failed IUI), but I wanted to let you ladies know that I still think of all of you. I am content with my decision to stop TTC and am moving on after 3 years. I am losing weight (down 12 pounds already) and looking forward to a trip to the Dominican Republic in June and France in October. So if I can't have a baby... will travel!

Leora... I'm so excited for you... I smile everytime I read about the babies... I can't believe you are 12 weeks already.

Margi... I haven't read much from you lately... looking for an update.

Lou, rypell... others... you are lucky ladies indeed! Enjoy those beautiful baby bellies!

Carol-best of luck to you on your new path. I hope you and your DH can provide eachother with all the happiness in the world!

AFM...ugh. Bedrest begins today. Until these babies make their debut i'm home and horizontal. I know it's for a good cause, but holy moly here comes the boredom!!!

Stephanie - I'm sorry you're having to go through the closing debacle. How stressful!! Hopefully all will be squared away on Monday and that part will be behind you.

Ryann - Ahhh, you have my sympathies as you start your bedrest. So do you have any hobbies or projects that you're going to tackle while being horizontal?

Mellow - Hope you and Marlo are doing well! Post when you can to let us know how you are both doing.

AFM - I spent all day watching everything royal wedding and working in the nursery. I got sooo much done so I'm a happy camper. Tomorrow I'm venturing up to Rhode Island to spend a couple days with my fellow Army wives. I haven't seen some of them since Christmas so a visit is long overdue. While I'm not looking forward to a million stops to pee on the way (overactive bladder has definitely kicked in in the 3rd trimester) I really can't wait to see my girlfriends. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

nothing new or exciting for me - but that's great since I want this pregnancy to be boring! Just checking in!

Mellow -hang in there! I know it's scary to think about having a preemie, but maybe use this time to read up on what to expect in the NICU. We are all hoping that you make it all the way to full term, but realistically, Marlo will be here in a few weeks. Try finding other moms who are dealing with preemies/NICU. I've heard from NICU moms that being prepared ahead of time is the best (and only !) thing you can do.

Ryann - why bedrest? Just standard in a twin pregnancy with your doctor? Lots of twin moms avoid bedrest. I'm not officially on bed rest, but since I lost my job in Feb and haven't found anything new, I'm doing a LOT of staying at home and resting. Are you really stuck in bed? Or on 'modified bed rest' that includes some couch and computer time?

Amanda - have fun on your RI trip!Get ready to pull over at EVERY stop to pee! :D

Carol - hi. Thanks for checking in on us. It's so hard when this journey ends in a way different than we imagined. Have such a good time on your trips!

Blair - a combination of prune juice and Colace works for me! The constipation was KILLING me. I felt like such an old lady complaining to the doctor about being backed up -- but it's seriously painful! I live in Israel, and in Hebrew there is no difference in the words between 'plum' and 'prune'. People here drink prune/plum juice like people in American drink apple or orange juice! (Oddly, carrot and mango are the other popular juices here!). So it's not so weird to buy it and drink it. Maybe thinking of it as 'plum' juice will make it taste better!

Lou - 16 weeks! wow! I know you will consistently be 4 weeks ahead of me, so you being 16 weeks shouldn't surprise me at 12... but it's amazing how fast time seems to be going... and yet so slowly at the same time...

Stephanie - you look awesome! And I think I have a bump at 12weeks! It's so fun to see the baby bumps, but I know that when you have it day in and day out it becomes quite a drag. So post pics so we can fawn over it, while you try to get comfortable! --- I really hope the house thing works out! Ugh!

AFM - nothing interesting! I definitely think the babies are growing... I feel my uterus like a hard lump in my abdomen. It's already quite uncomfortable to lie on my stomach and my maternity pants are a MUST.

I still can't find either baby on the doppler. My own fault for buying a really cheap one - or just my own inability to find them! I'm sure they are okay, but I'd like to hear them!

Next OB appt is at 14w2d... and I doubt I'll have an u/s then (no machine in his office, I get sent out. So he'll probably give me the referral for another scan or two). I have to wait until 15-16 weeks! GaH!

Leora...unfortunately it's the heart issue that's keeping me down. I'm spendng way too much time above 140 when I'm not even doing anything. I stood up to say the pledge with my students on Thursday and it shot up to 177. Doc realy wanted me on bedrest 4 weeks ago, but I held out til my appt on Friday and then he demanded it. 80% of my time my feet should be up, so couch or bed. He said I can still shower and make myself food and stuff, but that's about it. DH took me to buy a starter kit to knit a baby blanket...I think I can figure out how to do it! Glad you have nothing to report...and post a bump pic!

Ryann -- I'm so sorry you are on bed rest due to your heart rate. Did your doctor give you a reason as to why your heart rate is so rapid? Hang in there hun.

Leora -- I know! 16 weeks already! But you're right... there are times when I feel like I've been pregnant forever. You are almost out of the first trimester!

CJ-- Nice to hear from you! I'm glad you are at peace in your decision and are looking forward to your life of fabulous vacations. Congrats on losing the 12 lbs! I think I found some of them!!! LOL

Mellow -- Thinking of you. Any update?

Amanda -- Awesome you've got so much done on your nursery. I'm jealous. We managed to fill every spare room in our house with crap over the past 10 years and are in serious need of some cleaning up before we can get to the fun stuff. Since the bedrooms are on the second floor, we are turning our first floor office into an office/baby supply-changing room so we aren't running up and down constantly. I already emptied 4 50 gallon garbage bags of stuff we don't need!!! AND THAT was only the closet!

Blair-- Hope the constipation issue is better! I really find that docusate (Colace) 100mg taken once a day keeps me pretty darn regular. I admit, I reach for the Milk of Magnesia every couple of weeks though...lol.

AFM -- I am continuing to take my weekly pics. Here is week 16 taken yesterday. We went to a surprise birthday party last night and there was a little girl there who was all over me. Her parents were shocked saying that she doesn't just go to anyone but she kept asking me to pick her up and play with her. Too cute. Her name was "Ila" short for "Ilana". Pretty name I think. DH and I also planned a vacation using good 'ol Expedia. We are flying to Washington D.C. for 3 days then jetting to Montreal for 3 days and then driving to Quebec City for 3 days before flying home. We leave on 5/14. I can't wait!!!

Still in the hospital and still pregnant. 26 weeks tomorrow. We need more time, but are very thankful for the extra days we have had. Still spotting, and still contracting, it's just under better control right now. Will update again when I can.
