My baby stopped growing

Post by Jujubon »

Hello, I just finished my first IVF cycle , we were estatic that on our fist try we became pregnant.... We thought everything was going well until I went for my US........ Now I sit here in a trance... Let me try to explain .. My Retrievel was done March 30th ,2011. Three days later my transfer, I went for my pregnancy test two weeks after, came back with a positive results, April 20th went in for blood test my HCG level came back at1600 , which I was told were great by the NP, she then said I would need to come back on my sixth week mark for a US, which I did on May 12...... Then everything came crashing down... My Doctor took one look at the image and got her calendar out and turned and said to me ..."Your baby is not growing , it stopped growing at 6 weeks..............I just sat there dumbfounded ,not understanding the words out of her mouth, when I could finally speak, in a voice not my own ,I meekly said but I am six weeks...."NO" she said your 8 weeks!! HUH???...your LMP was 8 weeks ago..... she proceeded to give me choices: 1 come back in a week do another US, 2 let mother nature run it's course, 3: have a DC.... I chose number 1... Now I sit here in misery...not knowing, hoping , praying.... Still very confused about the dates.......Has anyone gone thru this???

I'm so sorry! I have not gone through this. We are starting our first IVF now. I have had a chemical pg in the past and know that it is devastating to see positive and think all is good only to be shot down later.

I don't have any advice but wanted to send you hugs.

Hi Jujubon,
I was just wandering around the boards tonight and came across your post...I just wanted to say I know it's not easy but going through something like this in the end will certainly make you stronger.

We also suffered a miscarriage too and had no idea until the doctor told us that the baby had stopped growing and there was no hb..I was so completely heartbroken and in denial when he first told us the sad news, and it took several weeks before I could accept it. What helped me was gardening and spending time with dh outside growing all kinds of flowers, fruits and vegetables and the garden keeps growing! I also journalized a TON on our IVF forum and knowing there are others out there who have gone through this makes it a little easier, come to find out it's more common then I ever realized, one out of four ladies will go through a m/c, but THEN the next pregnancy will be healthy. Our doctor said may be related to a chromosome abnormalty and even though it's shocking for a miscarriage to happen, I know I would much rather find out right now, rather than at the last second that something was wrong with our baby. Many hugs to you- Sunshine1576

I think that you need to have a serious chat with the doc. even if it is normal you sound very worried ( As I think any mom would be). If you really feel strongly about the baby needing to be born then I think you need to weigh the pro's /con's with a professional.

After reading this, I am slightly confused. They asked you to come for a 6 week US. How then did it turn out to be 8 weeks. You should ask for clarification on this. Where did they get their 6 week information and measurements from? How can your doctor say that it stopped growing at 6 weeks if they have no measurements taken at 6 weeks?
I think someone has made a mistake somewhere.
