fetal heart at 18 weeks

Post by regankate »

Hi Ladies!!

I just wanted to start out by saying I had a Level II Ultrascreen yesterday and found out we are having a GIRL!!!!!

I am sooo excited!!!!!!!
Everything with the baby was fine, except the Docotor noticed a tiny white spot on the babies heart......

WHat he told me was I had a 1 in 300 chance of haveing a bay with chromosome abnormality.
Has ANYONE ever heard of this????

The heart does not get effected at all......
Anyway, it made me nervous. I was told by a pediatricisn NOT TO WORRY,
there is a VERY SMALL chance.....

HAs anyone ever heard of this???

Thanks

wish you all the BEST!!!!

Hi ReganKate....we were cycle buddies back in February - nice to hear from you again, although sorry to hear you're worried.

I think I've read this in the last 6m, in fact I can remember the person but I know she's still around so will answer if she wants to.

You could try posting the same Q on the 'pg after tmt' board as they are obviously the people who will have more experience vs. many of this side.

Good luck getting the answer and congratulations on knowing it's a baby girl - get ready to received a sea of pink dresses, people just can't resist buying them! You'll be left with the practical clothes purchases to make :D

hugs,
Debra.

Hi Debrah!!

Thank you for responding.
I took your advice and posted over on the other site. I would just like to get some more reassurance, ya know.
The Doctor also told me that if I did an Amnio I have 1 in 200 chance of losing the baby!!!
So you know I am not going to chance that!!!

Anyway, how are you doing??
Hope all is well!

THANK YOU

Hey Regan Kate,
Congrats on your great eighteen week scan my fab FCB!!
I'm eighteen weeks this weekend, we don't do the scan until 19 weeks in Australia, so another week to wait. My twelve week nuchal fold scan was lovely though, so am really hopeful that this one will be fine as well..
Good on you for finding out the sex, we're finding out as well, just couldn't wait for another four and a half months!!
The heart spot sounds quite OK..1 in 300 is really a very very small risk, so don't stress (easier said than done I know!!).
take care
Belinda

Hi Regankate

How lovely a little girl! :D You must be thrilled.

It's a worry to be told something like you have especially about the heart. My scan at 23 weeks showed up that my baby had a serious heart defect and that it could be chromosomal. If she did have a chromosome problem she would suffer a lot. The way to find out was an amnio which after a LOT of deliberation we did and the out come was devastating and I went into prem labour at 24 weeks where our baby girl was born but died soon after. I have to say that I will never have an amnio ever again if ever I get to be PG again as it has ruined my life. We were told that we had a 1 in 100 chance of m/c and once the initial amnio was done it went to 1 in 500. The results came back that she was clear of any abnormality so you can imagine our distress - It's just not worth it in my opinion.

I am glad to see you are not going to take that chance. The doctor told you that there was a very small chance so keep hold of that.

Good luck with your next scans and the rest of your pregnancy.

Love Dagny xkx

Hey ReganKate,
Love catching up with the fantastic FCB gals!!
You're right about being stress-heads!!..I stress about most things related to bub..My bump is definately getting bigger, and I still feel a bit ill at times, so hopefully these are both "good" signs?!?!?!
Hope you're feeling OK about your scan. This is such a personal decision about to amnio or not to amnio, I can completely appreciate Dagney's point of view, and think that you were headed down the not to amnio track as well..You're little Noa will be beautiful and perfect and healthy and happy, I just know it!!
Take it easy
