help with hormone numbers

Post by jayne321 »

I feel silly asking this question because I'm a nurse but I know nothing about HCG Beta numbers. Are they the same thing? I'm sitting here waiting for my results of my second set of numbers but all I really know is that I want them to double. My HCG was 82 on May 12. (9 days after a 5dt). My progesterone level was 49. Transferred two embryos.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Btw, I'm a open heart surgery nurse so baby and pregnancy stuff is foreign.

Hi Jayne -

First off - Congratulations! Yes, beta & hcg are the same thing. 82 is an excellent beta for 14 DPO (days past ovulation)
Just add days past transfer with what day transfered so in your case 9DP5DT
Your P4 looks good at 49, they like to see anything over 20, so you're doing just fine.
Most girls like to check their betas on http://www.betabase.info, but remember that some run high and some run low - its tough to wait for your first u/s, buts THATS the only way to tell how many beans you've got in there.
You should join the pregnancy thread - these girls around here are the best! Good Luck!

Dear Katie,

Thank you so much. I just got my second beta and it's 307 13dp5dt. I was secretly hoping it was higher because I'm wishing for twins for some crazy reason. Trust me though, one healthy child would make us extremely happy. I have a 3 year old son and have been going through infertility treatments for over 2 years. So glad that my son will have a sibling. I've always wanted 3 kids but boy, girl, one or two... I think we will stop with this pregnancy.

Son is calling...

Thanks again.

Jayne - congrats on your pregnancy. Beta hCG numbers can be all over the map. Yes, yours are on the lower side of normal (not too low - but on the low side of normal). My beta was 200 at 11dp5dt, which is exactly average for a singleton - but I'm carrying twins. You never know. (Actually, with my singleton pregnancy, my beta hCG was 350 at the same time, so you really never know!).

On that note, carrying twins is much higher risk. Several ladies, myself included, have lost twins due to complications in the second trimester.

You can't really help it if you are carrying one or two. Just try to relax and wait for that u/s! (easier said than done, I know!)

Congrats on your pregnancy! :D

Leora,

Congrats to you. Very exciting. Funny that your HCG was higher with the singleton. Guess you never know.

I'm anxious to get my ultrasound (may 31). That will definitely tell us more. I had cramps today so I was freaked out but they seemed to have calmed down. No spotting.

Are you going to find our what you're having?

Jayne - I'm DYING to know what I'm having :D Early guesses said maybe 2 boys - my next scan is at 16 weeks and I'm going to beg for a peak between their legs

Cramping is totally normal in early pregnancy - even though it's quite scary!

May 31st is soon!
