Hi Girls
I had my 24 weeks GP appointment today and she scared the bloody hell out of me. She measured my tummy and said that I am extremely large for almost 24 weeks, looking more like 30 weeks, and then she called in another GP to have a look. She said that she wanted me to get scanned ASAP just to make sure that everything is ok as she suspected that I was carrying a lot of extra fluid which could cause complications for the baby...when I asked what she said it can affect the babys kidney amongst other things. Anyway to cut a long story short I went to see the midwife and had a scan and everything appears to be fine....they did confirm that I am large for my stage, but that the baby is within range, although on the larger size and I shouldn't be at all suprised if I have a 9 pound baby - OMG! I'm only 5 foot 2"! They don't weigh me which I think is a good thing as I would probably be more paranoid, but I've only put weight on my tummy (which is vast) and my boobs.
Have any of you been told you are on the large side?
I hope you are all doing well.
Love, Michelle xxxx
Our darling son Jake was born in October 2004 on our 3rd IVF attempt. I have PCOS. We're now trying again naturally, before embarking on our next FET IVF possibly late 2005... so watch this space!!!
I was constantly told i was having a big baby. I had a scan at 28 weeks and was told baby was off the scale and weighed 3lb then!! Then had a scan at 34 weeks and was told she weighed 6lb 10oz. Kept getting told that she would be at least 9 or 10lb.
Well my little girl was born 2 weeks ago and she weighed 6lb 14oz--hardly huge!!! I was so scared I had an elective c section!!
Michelle - Woppa is right - the amount of my friends that have been told they are having humungous babies and they are normal or just below. It is all a formula and different scanner measure different ways as I found out today!
Take care and try not to worry - they will monitor you

ttc 9 years. 38 yrs old, dh 8 hrs younger!First IVF in Aug 2002 and had ectopic.2nd IVF neg.3rd FET and negative.4th FET and positive but sadly lost our little boy at 20 weeks.5th FET and Alice Isobel and Emily Charlotte born 5th Aug 2004!
I was scanned so many times during my pregnancy because I was massive, they said to me that I would have a big baby and they was concerned because they was saying the baby hadn't got room to move. Well I did have a big baby I am only 5ft 1 myself and I have a 11lb 5oz baby. He's lovely but I did have a rough time but at the end of the day you have to try not to worry!! I was worried sick but he's well worth it and who knows you could just be carrying more water they said I was then they said I wasn't so I never knew what to believe. I think Alex was this big I was over by 2 weeks as well and they said he would be born for Christmas and wasn't due till the 22nd Jan oh well he's here and I am enjoying every minute of being a mommy.
the fluid around the baby starts to reduce later into the pregnancy to make more room for the baby, so you might find your own growth starts to slow down although baby gets bigger. (did that make sense?)
the scan result must have been a great relief to know everything is ok.
Hi Girls
Thank you so much for your replies I'm extremely grateful.
Woppa, I am so happy to hear of the birth of your little girl, how amazing - I know you have been on these boards for quite some time. And what a perfect weight! You are right, just goes to show they aren't always right.
Tracey and Phil thanks so much for your replies too - it really makes me feel much better.
Shell, Congratulations on your baby boy. You are right I really should try not to worry as it won't do me or the baby any good. What will be will be!
I am feeling large and I must say travelling to work on the tubes is becoming a bit of a nightmare - shortly I think I'm going to ask my boss if I can come in a little later and leave at 4.30 - not sure how well that will go down though - but I've got to think about what is best for baby.
Love to you all.
