Ghost - no lifting over 10lbs?

Post by LYD10 »

Ghost - i hate instructions that do not have any logic to them. why no lifting over 10lbs if my body is perfectly used to lifting 25lb DS? and especially in light of all of us being constipated and bearing down like crazy in the bathrooms - if lifting 11lbs is not recommended then surely the bearing down in the bathroom is a lot worse.
has anyone ever gave you a logical explanation for no lifting - especially after FET, where ovaries are not affected at all. and especially when juxtoposed against the "work" we have to do to deal with constipation.
i am sorry i am ranting - but this is my 4th 2ww with these instructions and they seem nonsensical to me. if i was alone i wouldnt care and follow through just in case - but i have a DS to take care of and its driving me nuts that i have to choose so to speak.
sorry for the rant - its the hormones combined with the 48 hour bedrest - another instruction that i cant see any logic for.

and last cycle i got an ectopic. was that because i had to cut my bedrest short and lift my DS during the 2ww? oh so many things to feel guilty about!!

I lifted my 32 lb son, I tried to avoid it if I could but there is just no way I was not going to lift him at all for a couple of weeks. It worked for us. best of luck!

LYD - You sound so much like me. after a million IVF (seemed like a million) I got so sick of instructions of what i could and couldn't do. To top it all off i went to 3 different clinics and they all had different rules.. no sex, no baths, no lifting, bedrest, no bedrest. To think how so many normal people could get preggo without the rules. I think the best thing is to go with your instincts. if it makes you feel better to hold your son go for it. I really don't think it has an effect especially since you did a FET and your ovaries aren't huge.

This is discussed from time to time. It seems doctors are just being extra cautious. More than one patient has asked their doctor about lifting their children, and the doctor usually just says to try not to very often.

I have not seen any basis for it.

Nobody can know if your previous ectopic was caused by lifting, or whatever else. Can't rule it out. I tend to doubt it, though. Women with natural pregnancies often go through normal activities until they discover they are pregnant. They have around 1% ectopic pregnancies. So if routine activity causes ectopics, it does not cause them very often.

Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

thanks, Rio, To_have_fun and Ghost. These instructions are very frustrating, arent they?
well, i'll do my best, i guess.

i know what you mean to_have_fun - different clinics prescribe different things. that's why i am so skeptical.

i cant wait to see what this industry is going to look like 20-30 years from now. they'll be looking back and laughing at some of the "old wives' tale" stuff they had us do.

and that's another thing, Ghost. how can the rate of ectopics be greater in ivf than in natural - 3% vs 1%? since in ivf it doesnt even go through the tube.

1. is it because a small amount of liquid is introduced during the embryo transfer and that enables the embryos to slosh around in the uterus and the tubes making it more likely that the embryo will get stuck in the tubes?
2. or maybe the excessive hormones make the tubal tissue overly receptive to implantation and embryos are more likely to implant there than they do in normal pregnancies?
3. or maybe it is simply a matter of more embryos being in uterus at a time. ivf attempt is 2-3 per time, while natural attempt is 1 per time. if you've got 1% chance of ectopic per embryo then your chances scale with the number of embryos, i guess.

Lyd: That ectopic statistic always bothered me and never made much sense. I'd love to hear GHOST's thoughts on that.

I had a double ectopic with my first pregnancy--one in my R tube and one attached to my R OVARY. I never could understand (or get good explanation from RE )on how the heck that could happen when the blasts were put in my uterus?!

And regarding the lifting--I wasn't lifting anything at all during that ectopic pregnancy as I had severe OHSS. I, too, figured the lifting restriction was more about the enlarged ovaries than anything else, but not really very clear.

Wishing you the best!!

The jury is still out on this. Those all sound like interesting explanations, and we can be sure #3 is at least some of it.

they should look at the rate of ectopics for frozen vs. fresh transfers. that should shed some light on it.
