TTC 2 years,new diagnosis, don't know what to do!!

Hello all!

My husband and I have been ttc for two years and though maybe it just was not ment to be yet. After a year and a half I had that feeling that you KNOW you are pregnant, took a test and it was positive.. who would of thought?! Being new to pregnancy and all of this, I heard that you don't make and appointment until after you get two positive hpt's. So a week later I took one and it was negitive.. the test flip flopped for about a month. I had made an appointment after the second positive, despite all of the random negitives, just to make sure that I was ok and it was not eptopic. Went to dr, had a m/c. Long story short, I had a pelvic u/s a few weeks later and found out I had a left sided 4cm hydrosalphinx. May 25 I had an appointment ath the ob/gyn and had an endometrial biopsy (which was clear, thank God) and had surgery scheduled for next week. June 3rd, 2011, my hydrosalphinx was removed and incased in my fallopian tube was a 10 cm cyst that appeared from no where. A few weeks later at post op appointment, the doctor said the right side was fine, uterus looks fine, and both ovaries were still there and he didnt see any cysts on them.. he said with in 3 months he thinks we will be pregnant, but if not, we will start infertility treatments.

Thankfully my husband and I work very hard and pay for fabulous insurance, but it doesn't cover ANY infertility treatment.. BUT I found that my state, Arkansas, has a mandate that makes my insurance pay 15,000$ towards our infertility.

It has been a month since surgery. Had 2 positive pregnancy tests 21 and 22 of June-2011.. but all tests are negitive now.

2 more months before we get to treatment.
We are so lost and have no idea what to expect. What is the first step of treatment?? How many embryos do you transfer when using IVF??

So sorry to hear your story, but welcome! You could not have found a better site than this one--I guarantee it.

There are many different protocols and questions when (if) you start IVF. I hope that you find a really good RE (reproductive endocrinologist) that you are comfortable with and will take the time to discuss with you the options and pros and cons of different treatments. I have worked with 4 different clinics and found significant differences!

You asked about how many embryos to transfer...that depends on several factors-the first of which is your age. If you are younger than 30, your RE will likely be very conservative, and perhaps even recommend a SET (Single embryo transfer). If you are over 35 they are more open to transferring more embryos, and if you are "old" like me, they will be willing to throw in a bunch! LOL. I started with IVF at age 41 and have had 4 embies transferred each time. But the risk of multiples is very high if you are younger--so I wouldn't recommend that. I have seen lots of women on here end up with twins (as I have) and several with triplets--which can be tricky and dangerous.

The number transferred also depends on the quality of embryos and what day you end up transferring. They tend to transfer more on a 2d or 3d than on a 5day transfer, for example.

Anyway, my recommendation to you is to move to the IVF board and "lurk" on the summer board for a while. You will be surprised how much you can learn! Feel free to jump in whenever you are ready. The women here are wonderfully supportive and knowledgeable. I joined last summer when I was struggling with "Beta hell" (when beta levels didn't rise properly) and ended in miscarriage. If I didn't have the support and caring hearts of these wonderful strong women, I think I would have thrown in the towel.

TTC is a difficult and often painful journey. I wish you success and hope that you jump over and join! (I "lurk" and "crash" to support former cycle buddies but I post regularly on the "Pregnant after treatment" thread. Yea! Finally!) I just read your other post...please don't be shy about your age! People here are very accepting, and as I told the other poster there are several women that are on the younger side. Check out dear Leora! She is only 24 and has had so much loss already---everyone here is only totally happy for her now that she is pregnant with twins. No one begrudges her. We all want the best for everyone---and if anything, the "older' gals like myself want to encourage women not to wait until after 35 to ttc.

I already feel so much better coming on here and talking to other women. I am just 21 and have felt like everyone would judge me for ttc so young. But I am glad we are because we would of never found the hydrosalphinx and cyst!!
