Can it really be??

Post by momwanttobe »

I have been struggling with infertility for 7 years. I've been through 4 fresh ivf cycles and 3 frozen cycles. I've had one mc and so many BFNs that it has gotten hard to be positive. We finally had to make the decision to use donor eggs. My eggs are just too old. Last Saturday we transferred 2 beautiful 8 cell embryos. Today I broke down and took a pregnancy test. I fully expected to see the words Not Pregnant come up but to my surprise it said Pregnant. I have NEVER had a test come out positive this early. My beta is on the 21st. So I am trying to be cautiously optimistic. I know that any could happen so I am trying to keep my head on straight. None of our family or friends know we used donor eggs and don't know that we are even in the middle of a cycle. I felt like it was just too stressful everyone knowing and asking questions. But I just needed to talk to someone or lots of someones and just felt the need to post.

Thanks for listening....

That is great!!!!! Congrats. Your story sounds very similar to ours. We went through 4 fresh cycles (2 negatives / 2 miscarriages) before finally deciding to move on to donor embryos. We ended up having another miscarraige with our first donor FET but the next donor FET was our miracle little boy! I think we needed to move on to donor, it was the best decision we ever made. Moving to donor eggs may have been just what you needed. Good luck! We also did not tell many people that we used donor embryos. Our family knows, but none of our friends. Everyone knows that we went through treatments, just not the whole donor thing. How many days post transfer are you??

Thanks, I am 8d3t. I tested positive at 7d3t. The earliest I ever to a positive was 11d3t and that is the one that ended in a mc. Like I said I am being caustiouly optimistic. This roller coaster ride is just beginning so I am trying to keep a Positive mental attitude.

Keeping my fingers crossed....

Congrats!!! . you sound like me when i got my first positive. When we did our donor cycle, i couldn't POAS and for all my past cycles I was a POAS queen. I have never seen a positive before and i was so afraid of seeing another one. This was our last shot and i new if it was negative we were pretty much done. Thankfully my clinic tested early on 6dp5dt and my beta # was 20.

Oh and since you are testing early and getting a positive, a good possibility that both stuck..

Good Luck!!!

If both of them stuck, my DH will have a heart attack... With my age I hope that only one stuck but I'm sure my ob/gyn will take care of me. I've used him for almost 20 years. I guess we will know a little more on Thursday.

So far I have taken 7 tests and all 7 of them have been positive....

I am now officially freakin' out...

My beta is Thursday 21st.

But I have now started bleeding. At first it was just a tint but now it is like a period. I have email my REs nurse but as late as it is I know she won't see it until tomorrow and I'm sure there is nothing that can be done now.

Why does this keep happening to me?

Don't lose hope. I had bleeding after my transfer...not just spotting. They told me it was normal for some women, and I had ultrasounds that looked normal and very good betas. I ultimately miscarried, but they did not think that the early bleeding had anything to do with the miscarriage. I'm praying for you!

I am so sorry that you are bleeding, but as wishingandhoping said, sometimes the bleeding doesn't necessarily mean the end. There are lots of other reasons for bleeding during IVF--low progesterone, irritation of the cervix, or, like me, a hematoma. As you can see from my siggie, I have been through a lot myself. I actually bled from 6 1/5 weeks pregnant until just a few weeks ago. One time I bled so severely I went to the ER convinced I was miscarrying. It has been very stressful, but I am making it--and I will be 44 next week, so I am a bit older than you and DH and I will be having twins this Fall!

Anyway, I am not trying to infer that you have a hematoma, but I want you to know that other women on this board have had bleeding and things have turned out ok. I would definitely get in to see RE in the morning. Rest tonight..take it easy...drink lots of water...I will send lots of positive energy your way. I hope tomorrow brings you good news. (((HUGS)))

Thanks for the encouragement. After taking my progesterone last night the bleeding pretty much stopped. Nothing but brown discharge. On the day of the transfer RE that did it said that my cervix was bleeding some. She said not to worry that all the meds they have me on could do that. So today was an ok day. REs nurse emailed me and told me we would know more with my beta tomorrow. I know as early as it is there is really nothing that can be done if there is something wrong. I did increase my progesterone just a little myself tonight. I feel like my dose should be 2cc but he only has me on 1cc. I didn't increase but a line or two on the syringe.

Don't know how I am going to make it through tomorrow waiting on the phone call......

1st Beta came back at 343. I asked nurse if she thought both stuck and she said we would know more Monday with my 2nd beta. I googled on internet and 343 would be a great # for a single. It's not that I would mind about twins but with my age I don't want to risk the babies health or mine.

Can't wait to see what Monday brings....

Congratulations!!!

And that is indeed a high beta...I believe you are 12dp3dt? so 15dpo?!?

Here is more information...if you haven't already found this site. Of course, there is a LOT of variability with beta levels so it isn't a sure thing one way or the other...

http://www.betabase.info

You can see my beta levels in my siggie...from the #s I had we were worrying about triplets! But we are happily pregnant with twins.

Again--congratulations!! And perhaps you have just one STRONG baby in there, which will be wonderful. Do you go for your second beta on Saturday?

My next beta is Monday. REs nurse said they want to see if double by Monday but I thought it should double every 48 hours. So I again googled and it said beta should double every 48 to 72 hours.

Marji26- how are you doing physically carrying twins. That is my biggest concern. I am overall a healthy person. I am somewhat over weight but other wise healthy. They haven't given me date yet of ultrasound but I guess that will be according to what my next two betas show.

Thanks so much for all the encouragement... We have decided not to tell family until ultrasound, so I'm gonna have to rely on you guys for questions and answers these next couple of weeks.
