Vitamins- Ghost

Post by Sunshine1576 »

Ghost,
I have been overthinking this probably, but I called my clinic to ask if they could recommend a vitamin to me so they prescribed Neevo. I went to CVS the next day only to find out they would have to order it for me, so I asked about price $45.00 a bottle, and told them to hold off. I googled this med and come to find out it's really designed for women that have trouble absorbing folic acid, something about enzyme specialized to help break down the folic acid and the reviews mentioned it's doesn't deliver alot of the nutrients or "food" the body needs. So I backed out and am now just taking the generic CVS brand of Women's "One-A-Day", which I still had in my cabinet. I also bought a bottle of the DHA prenatals. Most of all I just wanted a change, but I also feel too much of a good thing sometimes is not good, like getting too much folic acid. So this whole week I have been randomly wondering what is best, to stick with prenatals or go with the Women's One A day that gives a daily dose of 400mg folic acid. So far, I've only had one natural pg, but lead to a miscarriage. I'm just needing a little reassurance that I haven't lost my mind yet. Thanks in Advance- Sunshine1576

CVS the ones with 800 mcg folic acid? That plus the 400 from the One a Day makes 1200 and that's a lot. I leave it to your doctor to decide what is "too much" for you, but I think your concern is justified. Keep in mind you get some from your diet, too. The usual recommendation, as you know, is at least 400 mcg daily.

Thank you for responding back Ghost, I haven't opened the Prenatals ones I bought. Right now only taking the ones I already had in my cabinet which expire in November, they just have 400mg of folic acid. This is my third day and I can tell a difference with the way I feel in the mornings with ONLY 400mg of folic acid, more energetic (I take them at night). My concern is what if that's not enough?

I read somewhere that the body shouldn't get more than 1000 mg daily dose of folic acid, but at the same time is it good to be prepared before another pregnancy...I terrified of having another miscarriage and my thyroid levels come back on Monday. Again, I know I'm probably overthinking this, but need to have a peace of mind.

Usually when they set a standard, like 400 mcg per day, they do so with some safety margin.
