premature contractions scare

Post by alisonn »

well have just arrived back from hospital, not a good week, stared monday
afternoon, with cramp/period pains but being only 29wks just rested on
couch, pains continued thru night and kept me awake, and stupid me
rather than phoning the hospital straight away, waited till the morning
and went down to the midwife at 8.30 in tears, who sent me straight to the
hospital, where i was told i was in premature labour, have to say the
midwives were fantastic, i spent the day on the moniter checking
the baby and the contractions, there main concerned was as i had
not reach the 30wks, they needed to get steroid injections into me to
help the babies lungs develope so i was given a course of tablets which
did stop the contractions eventually, also what was good was my cervix
was still closed and the membrane still intacted they kept me in the labour ward all night, and the following morning as i had had no more contracions
i was moved upstairs to a ward, where i was kept for another 24 hrs
in case the contractions came back.
It has realy scared me the last few days, and i will be spending this
weekend resting, i just hope i dont get too paranoid, as they said if
it happens again, now they have given me the steroids they would
not stop the contractions. I feel i just want to wrap myself in
cotton wool again, the last 8 wks i have realy enjoyed being pregnant
as everything was going so well and then this.

How scary - I feel for you I really do. Things were going so well.............
On the good side you have had the steroids and they have stopped the contractions for the moment. Just rest now. A friend of mine went in to labour at 25 weeks - they stopped her for 3 weeks but she overdid it again and at 28 weeks Grace came along. She is a right handful now at 4 years old. None of us want premature babies but even if the worse comes to the worst baby should be fine. Please just take special care (I know you will you are not daft) and I will be thinking of you..........
Lots of love
Tracey

OMG....How scary for you. You must now do nothing but REST,REST,REST.
Every day/week extra now counts and you must do everything possible to keep baby in by doing as little aS possible.
Fingers crossed and thinking of you.

oh alisonn,
this is so scary, I am so sorry this had to happen after all this time when you were doing so well! i am so glad it's under control now, your hospital seems to have been really good so keep glued to that bed and there should be a good chance that this will be just a scare! You seem to be coping very well too, I must admit I've been panicking very easily in the last few weeks...Please take care and rest and hopefully all will be well!
love,
juliana

Alisonn,

bl@@dy hell you must have had a real fright. please take it easy for all the remaining weeks. it's too easy to overdo it. the good news is the doc's sent you home so they must be comfortable that everything has settled down.

take care.

Alisonn,

I don't get on the boards much now, but used to be one of the regular old timers. Just to reassure. I had my twins at 29weeks, and although it is so scary, mine had the steroid injections at 28 weeks...I have now got two perfect...and noisy little people....I can't call them babies anymore as they are now 2!!!

It is better to keep them in as long as poss... but you would be amazed how strong they are even at this stage. Hopefully you won't see them for a good few weeks..but please don't panic too much...it is most important you rest and try not too get overly stressed (chocolate works well!!)

Take care
Nicky
