Undecided on 5 1/2 week ultrasound. advice please

Post by counsel13 »

This is our 2nd and last IVF attempt. Our first attempt resulted in a misscarriage at 7.5 weeks (after heartbeat detected). I am currently at 4.5 weeks and the doc wants to do an utrasound at 5.5 weeks and then again at 6.5 weeks. I know that the only thing we will see at 5.5 is how many are embryos are currently implanted. We won't see a heartbeat until 6.5 weeks, and anything can change in that one week time period. So, I am undecided as to whether or not just waint until 6.5 weeks. Any thoughts? BTW, we transfered 3 the first time and 4 frozen this round. My beta at 16dpo was 470 and 18dpo 2060

At 5.5 weeks they verify uterine implantation and count the sacs. They look for any tubal implantation, too.

You are correct that this is easily omitted. Many clinics just do the 6.5 week scan and usually a later one.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

Seeing that your numbers are more then doubling, as ghost said they probably checking for embryos implantaion at this point. If it were me I would have to go just to know what is going on and they might make some changes if you are on meds or change up a protocal of your diet or if you have any questions you might want to ask. I know you are on pins and needles about the heartbeat that is detected at 6 weeks but also know you need the best advocate care. Wishing you the very best and please stay with us on the forum, certainly a great support group here. :D

best I can recall how many weeks is not as important as how high the quant is. Although we tend to be more focused on weeks)I unfortunatly work in healthcare and sometimes when I used to order a us on someone emergently I wouldnt do so unless the quant was say above 12-1500, even if they are bleeding (although each case is slightly different and I certainly never take care of anyone who has ungone so much work to get pregnant as we have. Generally speaking I would ask your RE what he thinks the risk of doing the US weekly is and perhaps what would he/she do different with the informtion recieved from the US done a week early.
perhaps it is the location of implantation thast needs to be determined. your numbers are very very good :D

Most people don't have an ultrasound done until 6 weeks anyway, so if you want to wait, you should be able to. I'm sure they are just verifying how many implanted. Congrats, hope you have a wonderful pregnancy!
After 7 attempts (2 negatives/3 miscarriages), we have TWO miracle boys!! If you would like to hear our story, please visit http://www.ivfsuccessstories.info. Never give up, it can happen for you!!
