Anton,
I enjoyed reading your post as always! Glad to hear you will be cycling in 2012, maybe we'll be cycling together but I know one thing it's not over by a long shot! I've never heard about celebrating the names, lol I had to read it twice to understand it and then you explained it in great detail, but what a great reason to celebrate! Do you all celebrate birthdays too? lol I had to make sure! Facebook is a great idea, and I keep everything IVF related over here too since the world just doesn't understand what we put ourselves through! :D

Ninde,
"How I met Your Mother" is a comedy show dh and I started watching, love it and dh told me the first 6 seasons are available for instant watching on Netflix. We're only on the first season right now but way further on maybe in the 5th season Lilly and her husband try to get pregnant. I used to avoid watching sitcoms with any relation to babies but as much as I see it happening everyday, I remind myself it's only a matter of time before it happens to us.

AFM: Nothing new except a little sleep-deprieved from Blackjack barking all night. Wanting to finish the outdoor decorations around the gazabo but it's quite chilly this morning for Florida. Nope I would never survive up north!

Quick update:

I recently had the "Repeated Pregnancy Loss Panel" drawn and so far all of the results had come back negative. However, I spoke with the nurse today and one of the two results that were still pending came back abnormal. Apparently, the "Protein S" came back very low. My Protein S is 9 and normal is 60-149. Protein S has to do with clotting. My RE should call me back later today to discuss further.

Christy - AVOID "How I met your Mother" past season 4!. Lily and Marshall start TTC (super casually - ie, just throwing away the BC) and don't get pregnant as fast as they'd like (a few months and they are freaking out). When Marshall's father dies, they decide to take a break from TTC... and of course.... she gets pregnant. *surprise* (Imagegrumble grumble grumble grumble Image) I'm on a hiatus from that show. I think it's a hilarious show, but that story line was KILLING me! (They also have an episode earlier on where Lily gets a positive pregnancy test, they tell everyone, and then the doctor says she isn't pregnant. Everyone, including them, is relieved. But they never explain WTF she got a positive test if not pregnant. How are they so "relieved" about an early miscarriage?)

I've put the most recent season on my list of things to watch on bedrest - but even then it might be too much for me.

I'm avoiding a new sitcom called "Up All Night" even though friends of ours love it -- it's about adjusting to being young and being parents and having to give up on your pre-parenting lifestyle. Not my idea of comedy at this point.

Tess - OH NO! I'm so sorry. Image What's the next step? Waiting to see if it falls to zero on it's own? Any idea of a chemical pregnancy (or early miscarriage) could be a sign that the baby was affect by your genetic condition?

Smoon - if this is twins, DH and I will actually faint in the u/s room - we transferred 1 embryo, so twinning is incredibly unlikely. Phew! I'm so glad you are so close to meeting your little girl! Image

Ilene (Bodie) - can't find you on FB. Maybe your profile is too private?

Antonia - isn't it crazy that it's December? Image How nuts! We also love having another couple over and playing cards. People make fun of us and our favorite "couple friends" because the 4 of us will sit around and play bridge (oddly, we play men vs women instead of us vs them! more fun that way!). All of us are under 30, so our other friends think we are nuts - but it's so fun! -- btw, I couldn't find you on FB. Maybe your profile is set too private?

AFM - I took today off of work too. I'm feeling better (still not 100%) but didn't want to push myself.

I got a pregnancy announcement today - my step-sister-in-law (does that make sense? She's married to my very-new step-brother -- my mom got married last week, this is her new husband's son and DIL). I know she's an unexplained infertility IVFer. They did cycle #6 this summer (one previous early m/c and one previous ectopic) that failed. Then she got surprise pregnant before her next cycle started. She is 12.5 weeks.

I'm happy for her, but still a little jealous.

I still can't believe I'm actually pregnant.

David and I keep saying "Holy f*ck, I can't believe this worked!" -- but his cell phone converts all the "f*ck"s into "duck"s... so I made him this picture ---

Hi everyone - thank you for all your lovely words of support.

I've taken the day off today to have some time to myself. It's the work Xmas party today, but I really don't feel much like celebrating at the moment.

Next steps...bloodtest on Monday which will probably show a decreased or slightly risen beta. I'm still taking progesterone until I receive the results of the 3rd test. Forever the optimist! Then I'll just wait for my body to do it's thing. With such a low beta it shouldn't take long. Then it's rest and recoup over Xmas and rethink about what to do next. DH and I had decided on another cycle, and then if that failed we'll try a donor egg cycle. But I'm beginning to think that a skip to a donor cycle might be the best option. I have a potential egg donor but she still needs to do all the screening. This takes about 3 mths or so. So might get her started on that anyway. You cannot pay donors in NZ. You pay for the cost of the cycle but not for the embryo. It's illegal to 'buy' an embryo. So as you can imagine, egg donors are very difficult to find. i'm lucky that my potential donor is a friend and work colleague. My other potential donor is 6 mths pregnant so that rules her out. :) I'm definitely having a hyseroscopy before the next cycle though. I know that much. Being an oldie, my uterus could have all sorts of fibroids and polyps growing.

Leora - I'm so happy for you. Just awesome that your third beta has overtaken the average. Can't wait to hear the results of your ultrasound. I'm not sure whether my pregnancy is chemical or whether it will be an early miscarriage. The genetic disorder doesn't cause problems till 2nd trimester so I don't think it's that. just one of those things I think. I was really looking forward to taking the pregnancy journey with you but hey, not to be for me this time around. Do you mind if I live vicariously through you?

We - very interesting about the S protein clotting disorder. You certainly want to find out about clotting disorders before you give child birth. Hope your son is doing okay (and you of course).

Anton - good luck with the jobs. If only we could act as your referees - you'd fly in!!

LauraN - 5 is a good number of embies. Enough for a fresh transfer and some frosties to put away for bubby(ies) siblings. :) good luck with your transfer. Take it easy lemon squeezy.

My email address is wooznews@hotmail.com if anyone wants to befriend me on FB. My FB page is also IVF free. I have to leave some part of my life free from IVF!!!

Leora- I LOVE the duck!!! so cute

Tess- I am sorry about you being in beta hell :( It never gets easy.

We-If you could put me on the list for another cycle in January that would be great! How are you?

This was posted on FB & I thought you ladies might be interested:Great news! The Family Act of 2011 was introduced in the House of Representatives this week by Rep. John Lewis (GA)! This marks a big step forward for the bill, as it needed to be introduced in both the Senate and the House for passage to be considered. Please write your Representative to encourage them to co-sponsor the bill by linking here: http://bit.ly/rXEDN0

Now I don't know who our representative is, but I am going to find out & send them a message :) I am just waiting on AF to get here so I can do the D&C then off to another cycle in January thanks to my RE.

Evening ladies :)

Tess: Oh no, I'm so sorry. Thats just awful, I don't know what to say but I'm lighting my candle with your intentions in it. And I'm so sorry you have to have tests now - although I understand why. I really hope you can get some rest x

Bodie: Yay - thanks for the fb request - I've confirmed :) I'm sorry you are having such a rough day. Is tomorrow any shorter for you?

Blue: Yay, you found me far quicker than I could find you despite my misleading name :)

Maria: How are you today? Are the drugs you are starting to take ok or are they difficult?

Christy: Yay - I found you and sent you a fb request :)

Anton: you have a really lovely fb picture :)

Leorira: I know what you mean about the how can anyone be relieved by a miscarriage. I know everyone is different but I got so angry the other day when a so-called English celebrity who had been all over the magazines saying how devestated she is that she can't have children due to her eating disorder is now pregnant (was about to start IVF - how convenient!) and her concern is that she will look fat?!!!!!!! Seriously - eating disorders are terrible, awful things and I can actually understand the logic had she not been using it to get more exposure. Anyway, rant over - how are you feeling?

Julia: I've fb requested you :)

Afm: Just about to get into bed, its starting to get really cold here now, its been very mild so now it feels like the beginning of winter. Another training session tomorrow afternoon so hopefully I'll have use of arms and lets when thats over :)

Ninde-thank you for asking and that you for all of your prayers. I am truly grateful for your friendship.

Update: results of the RPL Panel show that I have Congenital Type II Protein S Deficiency. Apparently Type II is the rarest of the three types of Protein S Deficiencies.

This is the information I found on the disorder. My RE will repeat the test in mid December and if this is still the diagnosis, the treatment will be Lovenox injections. He will also refer me to a Hematologist for long term treatment in order to reduce the chances of Thrombosis, Stroke, Heart Attack, etc... This diagnosis would make sense since there is a very high incidence of Thrombosis related deaths on my mothers side of the family.  I also had severe preeclampsia with my son which has been also linked to this diagnosis.  And, I suffer from Restless Leg type symptoms which increased during the two pregnancies and this has also been linked.

Protein S deficiency is a disorder associated with increased risk of venous thrombosis.
Type II - decreased protein S activity: normal free protein S levels AND normal total protein S levels (qualitative defect).
Individuals with mild protein S deficiency are at risk of a type of clot called a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) that occurs in the deep veins of the arms or legs. If a DVT travels through the bloodstream and lodges in the lungs, it can cause a life-threatening clot known as a pulmonary embolism (PE). Other factors can raise the risk of abnormal blood clots in people with mild protein S deficiency. These factors include increasing age, surgery, immobility, or pregnancy. The combination of protein S deficiency and other inherited disorders of blood clotting can also influence risk. Many people with mild protein S deficiency never develop an abnormal blood clot.
Protein S deficiency is caused by mutations in the PROS1 gene. This gene provides instructions for making protein S, which is found in the bloodstream and is important for controlling blood clotting. Protein S helps block the activity of (inactivate) certain proteins that promote the formation of blood clots.
Patients with a protein S deficiency may be candidates for prophylactic anticoagulation during pregnancy and warfarin for 4 to 6 weeks postpartum, according to their history. If they have had thromboembolism or adverse pregnancy outcomes, they should be offered prophylaxis with heparin or warfarin postpartum. Current understanding indicates that a combination of risk factors, including multiple inherited thrombophilic defects associated with secondary hypercoagulable states, have a particularly strong association with adverse pregnancy outcome.
Women can have disorders that make it more like to have problems with blood clotting. Blood clotting can be an important cause of miscarriage since the growth and development of the embryo is highly dependent on obtaining oxygen and nutrients from the mother's blood supply.
Some of the more common causes for increased blood clotting risk are genetic mutations that a woman is born with are:
Factor 5 Leiden Mutation
Factor 2 (Prothrombin) Mutation
Methyl tetra hydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) Mutation

Thrombophilias can also result from deficiency or excess amounts of the factors in the blood that control the balance between bleeding and clotting. These include:
Protein C Deficiency
Protein S Deficiency
Antithrombin III Deficiency
Hyperhomocysteinemia
Folate Deficiency

Hi All,

Its been a long time since I last posted. My home laptop is not working anymore..So, writing from work. I had my first beta on 11/28 (11dp5dt) and my level was 42. RE said its pretty low as they consider 50-150 as a normal range. But I did the second beta again today 12/1 (14dp5dt) and its 165. He said as long as its doubling I am fine but I should have had something around 200-250 to be rest assured.

Does anyone know if these levels led to a normal pregnancy for anyone? I feel very positive though. Please pray for me.
