Bargain shopping for FET meds

Post by kerpupples »

Hi ladies - just got a call from the clinic's preferred pharmacy with my RE's latest order. I'll be needing 48 Vivelle patches and additional endometrin. I didn't get the quote yet on the Endometrin, but this pharmacy runs about $7.20 per Vivelle patch. I don't think my insurance will cover, so was just wondering if any of you have gotten them for less. I'm in the states and need to have these in hand in about 2 weeks.

Does your insurance cover them at all? It doesn't hurt to check. My insurance does not cover IVF or IVF specific meds but they do cover meds like the patches and progesterone (I guess because they can be used for other things?).

So according to my insurer's website, I can get a 3 month supply (24 patches) of Vivelle for $40. Definitely going to have my RE send me the Rx for that. I already have 16 at home and a coupon for a free trial box so that will get me to 48. Yay!!!! I'm out of luck on the Endometrin but I will run that through the FSA.

Thanks for the advice Barbara!

Also, if patches are too expensive, estrogen IM shots are real cheap. That's what I had the last 2 FET cycles and my lining was great. And estrogen shots are way easier than pio shots and are only done 2 per week. I actually preffer than to patches. I didn't think I would but it's less hassle.

Lydia - I'll have to ask my clinic about IM estrogen. I don't do patches - I do pills - which are a PAIN! 4 pills a day is really hard to remember (I have to spread them out - I set multiple alarms on my phone and have to always carry them with me!). I'd prefer 2 injections a week! :D

Kerpupples (Amy) - I wish I had leftover drugs - but I don't....

You are not gonna need them, cause you ll be done this cycle :) Unless they have you do estrogen on fresh cycle, too?

Lydia - I hope! (Yes, we do estrogen after the ER until the beta or 10 weeks pregnant -- but I think I'll stick to what I know for now. I hate the estrogen tablets during a FET -- they always take FOREVER to work... maybe the IM injections would be better)

LYD - I didn't even know that IM estrogen existed! I think I'm covered through a BFP but I will definitely ask about that if (WHEN) I need more after my BFP. Thank you!

Leora - I think the patches absorb better than the tablets. It's what I've always been given. I suspect the IM would as well.

Tuffy - PM'ed you!

Sorry for crashing.... but I had to ask... am I reading it correctly when y'all say that you take estrogen all the way up to your beta???? You take it with the progesterone??

Thanks,

Yes Heather. I believe my clinic orders the estrogen to be continued along with the progesterone until 10 wks gestational age following a BFP.
