Still nothing on the u/s this morning - which they are saying is a good thing.

Beta numbers suck - went up from 148 yesterday to 161 today.

No way this is a viable pregnancy (duh) and it's definitely ectopic - defined as "ectopic pregnancy of unknown origin", since they can't find it.

I met with Dr. Bedolach (the on call RE). He said that with number so low, he is pretty sure that the pregnancy will miscarry on it's own, no intervention needed. This would be great - if we needed to intervene, we would need to do a methotrexate injection which would mean at least 3 months until we could try again. Surgery isn't an option at all, because no one can find where it is.

The assumption is a very small ectopic pregnancy that is miscarrying itself.

I follow up with more blood tests (next one on Sunday). If beta goes down, we can do our fresh cycle as soon as beta gets to zero. If the beta goes up a lot - we have to look for ectopic again and perhaps intervene with methotrexate.

Hoping to go down to zero fast!

Antonia - nope. No way this is a viable pregnancy. :( I'm so jealous of your baking! I have no time right now because of rehearsals - but I love to bake too! Your holiday plans sound awesome - enjoy!

Laura - that's fantastic! Waiting for the u/s is always so long... how many weeks/days will you be then? You should add a pregnancy ticker :D 5 dogs? Wow! We have one, and tried taking in another but it was too much work. I love my "furbaby" though! I wasn't raised with pets, so when DH wanted a dog (he grew up with a dog who still lives with his parents), I was really hesitant. I told him the dog would be HIS dog and I wouldn't have to touch it or feed it or walk it and it definitely would not sleep in our bed with us! 3 years later -- he is a family member, we sleep in "his bed" and he is our little "baby monster" :D

Patricia - as far as I know, the Catholic Church is the only religion that has a problem with IVF (as for what to do with "extra" embryos - that's a religious/moral issue for a lot of people. I don't think I could "discard" embryos - but if I had embryos but didn't want another pregnancy - I'm not sure of what we would do). Judaism has no problems with IVF, but there is a problem with "unnecessary spilling of seed" - but come'on - I know most guys masturbate sometimes! Some Jews hold really stringently about not spilling seed - and disallow any male ejaclation outside of a woman's vagina (no handjobs, no oral sex, no anal sex, no masturbation). In order to get semen samples from these guys, some are willing to use condoms (special condoms without spermicide, then they bring the used condom to the lab) but some are so stringent they won't have sex with a condom - so they have to do "post coital semen collection" which sounds AWFUL! I'm totally okay with D "producing" his sample "on demand" for both semen analysis tests and ESPECIALLY for the IVF fertilization. Honestly, I'm sure he 'spills seed' on his own, and this 'spilling seed' *is* necessary -- ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'LL BE USED TO GET ME PREGNANT! I don't understand how some Jews aren't okay with masturbating into a cup for the fertilization part of IVF -- sheesh! How is that 'waste'?! <vent over>

Nicole - I'm impressed with the 5 miles too! Go girl! I'm waaaay overweight at this point (98 kg, which I'm afraid to convert into pounds - as I only 'understand' pounds, not kilos! but somewhere scarily about 200 lb) and I know how you feel schlepping the extra weight around. Good job though for trying to lose it. I'm such a slacker...Microsoft, huh? That's so cool! I'm so glad you get such great benefits!

Margi - yeah, huh? How much suckier could this get? I feel like God/the universe sees it as a challenge -- "Leora's life sucks so much, how could we possibly make it worse?" Oy. --- Happy Hanukah to you too!

Neffi - I'm so so so sorry about your BFN. Big big hugs. I hope adoption or foster-to-adopt or embryo donation/adoption work out for you in the future...

Lydia - I was told a definite 3 month wait after methotrexate because the abortitve will still be in your system. In any case, hopefully no methotrexate even though this definitely is ectopic...

Tess - I hope you can make a decision about another IVF vs egg donor that makes you and your husband content...

warning: photobomb! :D

y'all were posting pictures of your Christmas decorations and trees -- last night was the first night of Chanukah - so I thought I'd add some pictures of our celebration (which we didn't feel like celebrating) with my in-laws.

Here is my FIL's menorah:
Image

here's David lighting the first candle (one candle added each night)
Image

my MIL made "latkes" (potato pancakes traditionally eaten on Chanukah)

David's brother bought him a mask to wear when he bikes to work in the cold... but he just looks like a robber from an old movie!

the dog got the most gifts! A rope toy

and a chew bone bigger than he is!

Bonnie-- that beta is perfectly awesome. It only has to rise by 67% technically, at least thats what my RE says. My beta was the same at the same time yours was with my son and he is a healthy crazy 3 year old! Congrats!

Congrats Indigo!!

Neffi- Many hugs and prayers to you!!

Leora- Love the pictures! Your dog is adorable!

AFM- Whatever that spotting/light bleeding + cramps is gone after 3 days. Maybe that was a cyst that burst. Started with slight cramps tonight and my pelvic area is so sore, all the way across! Ugh. Hope that goes away tomorrow! We are all set for Christmas! DS is getting anxious but for once is his life hasn't begged to open gifts yet! Amazing! We have all but his (well except what family sent him) under the tree. Those come out Christmas Eve after he's asleep! I feel horrible because a game is talks about all the time, we forgot to order!! He has the others to it just not the first. Now it's too late to order in time and it's not in stores! I did order it anyway but will be late. We've been watching Christmas shows/movies each day/night. Love this time of year!

Evening ladies :D

LauraN: your time in south america as missionaries must have been different and interesting and intriguing. I know religion can be a touchy subject but I love hearing about different practices. And how are you feeling at the moment?

Bonnie: im not as up on the beta numbers as some of the othernladies. We have one taken and that's it. But im still abit concerned about your ohs - breathlessness is another sign. My sister was very I'll with it so please get your re to look after you, its a serious condition. I dont mean to freak you but its not something your re should be playing down by saying you are sensitive to the procedure.

Neffi: im so heartfeltly sorry and i have my candle lighting for you x

Blue: well done on all thre training but please dont overdo it! I pulled my bloody hip flexor doing kettlebell swings today. So im in bed now (its near midnight here anyway) with a hot water bottle on my hip and pelvis!!

Tess: my Osteopath would kill you for saying its "airy fairy stuff" :D how are you doing?

Leora: this is just not straightforwardnfor you is it? How are you feeling. It seems Islam isnt wild about ivf either. There is a difference between the Suni muslims and the Shi'te but the main issue isnthat Allah is perceived to be the one who decides and in fertility/childlessness is seen as a test. Beyond that its believed that ivf has problems because 1. Its considered "unnatural" and secondly a woman's "private parts" have to be exposed. But in certain cases this is allowed. What is utterly ruled out is donor eggs and/or sperm. Why does it all have to get so complicated?!

Indigo: congratulations and happy Yule :D

Christy: miss your posts :D but i hope you are having a great trip :D

Afm: apart from being sore and annoyed with my trainer for pushing me too far with kettlebell swings(!) myaccupuncturist surprised me yesterday and unsettled me by saying she would rate the clinic im attending third out of four clinics. Its part of the national maternity hospital and i thought their care was good. But they arnt good on drug support. None of the clinics here are like the clinics in the US and elsewherenin terms of drugs like continued progesterone support post beta number 1 but one clinic here will give it in some cases. That same clinic also give baby aspirin which I've heard some of you discuss. Also my clinic does a day 2 transfer only as they dont store beyond that (they do freeze). Her number 1 rated clinic go up to day 5 and also are the more progressive re drug support. But they arnt linked to a hospital should anything go wrong. They are the clinic my sister used and at the time I thught they were quitenirresponsible as they never questioned her weight and she is very heavy, her smoking, etc. The first time she got pregnant she developed very bad ohss and after her scond transfer (she miscarried the first having lost a twin) she developed ovarian tortion, had to have emergency surgery with transfusions and eventually lost her vary, now she only had one to start so that was even worse. So im all confused if I should try another with my clinic on the basis I did get pregnant first ti e or whether I should change

You guys- I got a positive HPT! Super faint because it is 8dpo but. Unless it is still the trigger. Which I don't think so because I tested on Monday and got a negative HPT. Unless I didn't wait long enough then. In any case, I took a picture - and it's even fainter in the picture- its the faint line in between the two darker lines.

Anyway, I will see if it is darker or lighter tomorrow. I so hope this is not the trigger.

Ninde, since you got pregnant I would stick to your clinic. What meds did they have you on last time? And how many eggs did they retrieve? I forgot? Did you need ICSI?

And as far as post support, why don't you ask them to proscribe you PIO shots? There is absolutely no harm in that. Everyone in US does it. Aspirin is not that crucial - doctors do not agree on it 100% even here in US. The studies haven't been conclusive. But you can also ask them if it Is OK to take baby aspirin after transfer. Some clinics do not like to give aspirin before ER because of potential for more bleeding.
