Hi Fiona

I don't post over here much at the mo for obvious reasons but I just wanted to add my support for you and DP today.

It is a hugely difficult decision to make having an amnio or CVS and I really hope when you get the results back that they are full of good news. Proff Nikolides was there when we had our heart scans and amnio with Katelyn and he's a lovely man.

Thinking of you lots and I am so sorry you have to go through this.

Much love Dagny xkx

Happy Saturday. The Fetal Medicine Centre called with our results yesterday and everything is OK. I can't begin to explain the relief we both feel. To celebrate we went our and bought a dining table!

However, my placenta is still thin and so there is an increased risk of miscarriage. We just have to keep our fingers crossed. The Centre recommended I have scans at 16, 20 and 24 weeks so I just have to hope our very very little one can hang on in there.

Thank you everyone for your best wishes. It was a huge source of support and comfort during a hideous week. Thank you Dagny for your message, it can't have been easy writing that and the very best of luck with your EC/ET.

If anyone knows any tips on boosting the placenta please let me know.

Love Fiona

Fiona,

So happy to hear your news! I've been following closely your posts and thinking of you daily. This process is such a roller coaster for all of us. Good luck with the placenta building! I have heard that acupuncture can help, but my consultant says not to take any Chinese herbs.

Best of luck!!

Hi Fiona

I am so relieved to read that everything came back clear of downs. You must have felt a huge weight being lifted off your shoulders.

As for your placenta do try acupuncture and deep breathing exercises. It increases blood flow and oxygen to the womb and placenta. Don't do anything strenuous as blood gets taken away from the uterus to the extremeties so just try to relax. This will be a very worrying time for you and I am crossing everything for you.

Are you going to divulge the sex of the baby??

Love Dagny xkx

Oh Fiona

I am so pleased for you both - big smile and jsut the news I wanted to read................ It's all so tough for you. Just need to get you through the next few weeks.

Placenta building - I know this is going to sound daft but won't do you any harm - drink loads and eat as much vitamin c as you can - great at this time of year - soft fruit, nectarines, oranges etc as much c as you can pack in - natural vit c not vitamin. This is supposed to be great for the placenta. As for what else sorry at a loss.
Take care
Love

OOOOOOOOOOO FIONA - haven't been on for a few days (been away/ working etc)- am practically in tears!! Am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy for you. WHAT a nightmare. It just makes you wonder if we'd all be better off not having all these endless tests doesn't it. I mean WOW you must be EXHAUSTED. To go trhough everything we've ALL been through to get this far and then have this on top - is just unspeakable.

TAke ALL of Traceys (CLEVER tracey!!) advice - about placenta building. Relax - be happy!

I went to Nikoladies place too (but not him) for nuchal scan - its like going into a Star Trek movie or something isn't it

O I'm just so pleased for you :D

Cazxx

ps- No real news from me -am in complete confusion about the whole SYSTEM of where to have baby and antenatal care. I just kno NOTHING

I know it sounds TOTALLY TOTALLY mad but I don't have a local GP (I come from a medical family - lame excuse but there it is) - and even finding a GP has been a shocker. I think they will refer me to UCH in London - anyone know anything about it?? I think its due for refurbishment next year -which I should imagine means its in a bit of state this year!! I guess none of that matter though - as long as they don't leave me for more that 2 minutes without strong pain relief!!!!!!!!!! YES I am PATHETIC!!!!!!
Do you automatically get a midwife- do you go to see them or do they come to you or what -sorry to be so totally stupid!

Cheers all

Fiona, I've been following your posts and just wanted to say how relieved I am for you both. It must have been such a stressful few weeks...who needs it?

It was only after my amnio that I started to enjoy my pg (I'm 40 too) so I hope that now the tests have come back so positively, that you'll be able to relax into it.

Caz - I've never heard of midwives doing home visits until after the birth. I'll let someone who knows more about the current UK situation give you more info though.

hugs
Debra.

Fiona, I haven't been on for a few days and was shocked to see your posts. I'm sorry you had to go through all that. I can imagine your emotional rollarcoaster just went into warp speed. So glad to read your results come back negative for downs. Take care, relax and keep that little bundle safe inside.

Caz

You do make me smile - not sure as i have a GP - think Phil is UCH but have a feeling she is having hers now as not around much! My midwife does home visits but do think she is the exception and she is affiliated to the GP.
You will be assigned a midwife but more often than not you will get to see a few at UCH - I have not actually met any of mine at the hospital where I am giving birth as my midwife is a friend and lives up the road but delivers home births and at a different hospital - so nto sure who I will get!

None of us know much really - why don't you get yourself a book on pg - they are always helpful. I have the DK one which is wonderful.
As for being pathetic - don't be daft - why be a hero if you can get pain relief - not necessary these days - I am bricking it I can tell you.

Fiona - apart from vit c meant to say loads of fish if you can get it with E in too - so if not a good fish vitamin - not cod liver though fish!

Laying on your left side as much as possible is thought to be the optimum position for maximum blood flow to the placenta.
