I did both during but in moderation. While cycling or pregnant, I limit myself to 1 cup of coffee per day (not a huge cup and not super strong coffee). I did drink some during the cycling (not pregnancy); I didn't go overboard and get wasted, just a few beers here and there.

I felt that it was important to keep my body and life pretty much the same and not try to introduce any lifestyle changes while I was undergoing the stress of cycling. Of course, this is in the context of having a healthy diet other than the coffee and few beers.

Sue, my clinic directs no caffeine or alcohol as soon as you start stims so I followed that. Not a big deal for me to give either up, really. Now that I'm pregnant I'm still on decaf until 2nd tri or when I start getting really tired, when I will likely add in a tiny bit of caffeine.

Hi Sue! I hope the injections are going well for you. Some of my cycles I gave up alcohol and some I didn't. The last (successful) cycle I did give up alcohol and I decreased and tapered out my caffeine intake. I have no idea if that made a difference, but I had decided for this third cycle, I didn't want to second guess anything I did. Please keep us posted with how you are doing/progressing/feeling.

Hiya Guys~ thanks so much for the input on the coffee/alcohol. I have decided to give it all up. It is just not worth it. I didn't do it before on any of my other cycles. But i was a bit wimpy this morning and had a half a cup of coffee with tons of milk! I need to be stronger. The drugs are making me exhausted this time. I also feel grumpy--like a dark fog came over. Tomorrow I have my first blood test. I sure hope it comes back ok. I am going to be devastated if I have only one follicle again!

I hope you all are doing well and enjoying the first shines of pregnancy!

Sue, for what's it worth I didn't give up coffee or alcohol unil 6 weeks pregnant. Now I only had a few sips if wine here and there. But coffee I drank. Not regularly as I am not a regular coffee drinker. And also I would drink half cafs. And I drank tea. And still do occasionally.

Don't stress over the 1/2 cup too much Sue. The fatigue is kicking my butt so far, so just now I got a fountain soda that's half regular, half caffeine free diet coke. I hope it gives me a little bit of a jolt. I bet your follies will cooperate this time!

Hiya Guys~ I am feeling disappointed and worried. I had my first scan yesterday and he only say 3 follies and he said one of those was iffy. I know it is better than just one follie like last time--but I was hoping for more. I go for another scan in the morning. I'm afraid if the third one doesn't grow they are going to cancel me again! But most of all I am worried that I may just be too old now and this is the most my ovaries can do.

Sue: I am hoping for good news for you today. Do you think that you could persude your doctor to continue if there are only two? I've seen examples of people having two and getting pregnant.

AFM: I had the NT ultrasound today... The baby looks good and the nuchal fold was under the threshold. The tech gave us a guess on gender although I already saw something on the screen before she said anything. The baby looks like a boy! Since there's a great deal of uncertainty at this point, we're not telling anyone (except here) and we're not buying anything until we get a confirmation in a few weeks.

Barbara - congrats on possibly a boy! you'll have one of each then :)

Sue - Lou on PAT had only a few follies and she pushed through and now she's got a baby girl in her arms. Sometimes more follies show up later.

AFM - my 8.5 week U/S is this friday. i hope everything is progressing well and twins have good heartbeats and measuring on time! i cant wait to find out. its not till 2pm PST.

Sue - how did your scan go today? I'm hoping you had a few late bloomers.

Barb - congrats on the (maybe) boy! I have to ask, how in the heck did you see anything? Are you trained to read ultrasounds? I'm never sure exactly what it is I'm looking at on the screen, unless it's very obvious.

Lyd - I'm sure the beans will be great on Friday!

AFM, scare this morning. Bleeding. Clinic determined that it was from dehydration and me bumping my cervix while inserting my endometrin. Thankfully it has stopped. None of us want to see blood!!!

Kerpupples: I hate bleeding - I had it for about 2.5 weeks at weeks 5-7. I can't sing the praises of water enough, it really helps avoid bleeding and later on, Braxton Hicks. When I disclosed my previous bleeding today at the high risk OB he said "I'm not concerned at all that you were bleeding then. There's a lot of bleeding early in IVF pregnancies.". I know how scary it is but try to remember that at least 30% of all pregnancies bleed early on (according to my RE).

When I saw the ultrasound, it was pretty plain to even an untrained eye - a bum, 2 legs and something between them. The view was as if the baby was sitting on the ultrasound probe. Before she said anything, I kept thinking that what I was seeing looked an awful lot like a penis. It's early and could still be a girl because girls are swollen down there around this age and sometimes they look like boys (according to the tech). The tech referred to the baby as "him" and "he" for the remainder of the ultrasound. We'll be happy either way but I am DYING to know for sure so that I can start picking names!

Thanks Barb. My clinic didn't seem particulary concerned when I called them about the bleeding either. I bled and went into preterm labor with the previa I had during DD's pregnancy, so it's particularly scary to me. I'll be chugging water religiously!

Alexis, how are you feeling lady? I'll probably jump over to PAT if the u/s looks good on Tuesday, but my due date would be Sept. 22nd so I might start a Sept. thread. Though if it's twins, could be August anyway. That combined board over there just looks like too much.

kerpuppies~that is so scary that you are bleeding! You can't help but be super-paranoid after everything you go through with IVF. I'm glad it is just due to dehydration. Be sure to drink up!!!

Lyd~good luck at your scan on Friday. I'm sure it will be a big relief to see the two beans growing strong!

Bard~congrats on 'probably' a boy!

Alexis~I hope all is well with your twins too. How are you feeling?

I had my second scan this morning and things looked better. Now I have four follicles! I felt so relieved as I was lying there on the table preparing myself for bad news. Now I just hope there are eggs in them!!! I trigger tonight and egg collection is Sat morning.

Sue, great news on 4 follies! I'm so happy for you and so eager to hear how everything goes over the next few weeks. Please keep us posted and know we are thinking of you often!

Barbara, awesome news about a maybe boy! I bet it will be one. One of each sounds so awesome!

LYD, how are you feeling? I can't wait to hear about your ultrasound. I'll have to stalk the thread late in the day eastern time! Do you feel like you've been growing quickly? How about nausea or tiredness?

Kerpupples, you could certainly join the August 2012 thread on PAT. It's a very manageable size and nice to read about everybody's progress. I'm sorry to hear about the bleeding. I think that is one of all of our huge fears once we get the BFP is to see red. We have to deal with red when we don't want it and just want to get pregnant and then when finally pregnant, that's the last thing we expect or want to see. It does sound like it's pretty normal, but I don't think that makes it feel any better for the individual having it.

AFM, everything is going pretty well. I go up and down with tiredness and nausea/extreme hunger, but overall it's not too bad. I had my first OB appt yesterday and so I finally got to ask my million twin questions. Some of them were answered and some weren't yet, but that's ok. They pretty much treat twin pregnancies the same as singletons, except more scans and more frequent visits (and likely an earlier delivery). I asked about bedrest and the midwife we saw didn't think my practice thinks bedrest shows a lot of benefits. I'll just have to see once we get a lot further along! They used the doppler and only found one of the babies heartbeats. She wasn't sure if we'd hear either and wasn't worried at all. Amazingly, I wasn't too worried either. Those little guys are pretty small in there. We'll have our next ultrasound in two weeks, so that will be great to see them again. I am almost breaking out the maternity clothes! My regular pants are all too tight, and my bigger girls jeans have been ok this week, but I don't think they'll be ok for too much longer.

Gotta run, my son is home sick today (nasty flu...he threw up 10 times last evening...poor little guy). Take care and talk to you soon!
