Globetrotter- I sent you a private message about my needle experience. It really isn't that bad, if you are ok with needles. But for those of us that aren't....well....read my PM and I tell you all about the wonderful numbing cream :D

Hi ladies,

Just got home from my u/s. Everything went well. The bleeds are still there but considerably smaller. My OB says that as long as the bleeding stays to a minimum then we are ok. She gave me the all clear for our cruise on Sunday so we are good to go and I go back to work tomorrow. The babies look great. Baby A gave the u/s tech a bit of a hard tine because it wouldn't stop moving for the measurements. Baby B was much more cooperative. It was amazing to see how far they have come. My DH was in pure heaven today watching our two LO's move around everywhere. My OB sat with us to discuss the u/s and bloodwork results. She said that the u/s measurements were perfect and that based on that and the bloodwork that there were no red flags indicating ant of the Trisomy's or Down Syndrome. What a relief. Next appt is in 3 weeks for the blood work for Spinabifeda. Then at week 16 to week 18 fir the level 2 anatomy scan.

Hello all..
I have been reading on you all for the last couple of weeks.. This is our 3rd time trying IVF. The first two times were in 2008 and we decided to take a long break and here we are again with a new doctors office that seems way more promising. I have a son who is now 14yrs old and my husband has a daughter who is 13yrs old. The kids were both from different partners & unexpected pregnancy but with no problems. We don't have any kids together & have been married 7yrs.. 8yrs on March 20th. We found out in 2008 that my husband was diagnosed with a block sperm duct. He was only born with one testicle and with this one being block well there is no sperm to get to my eggs.. The doctors thought for sure we wouldn't have a problem with IVF.. 2 failed IVF's later & with no reason why. Everything was on track and seemed to be amazing cycles but nothing even implanted. This new doctor is double checking everything to make sure that doesn't happen again. I am currently on birth control for 3 more days (15days total) then I start my shots March 12th ..On my 2nd day of AF I did a HSS test to check my lining , everything looked really good nothing to even been worried about.(per the doctor). I am very excited but nervous this being our 3rd time. Also my husband just went to his sperm doctor yesterday and had to take a blood test to see if his hormone level hasn't raised. If it raised then there could be a chance or no sperm.. I am now worried because nothing has happened since 2008 and now we won't have sperm.. I think its normal for them to check, right?
I am still getting used to being on this blog but its like I already know you all from reading everything..

Thanks
Cyn

We - that is great news!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a happy day! :) I am so excited for you. I can not wait to get that far!

Cyn - Welcome to the board. YOu will find super wonderful ladies here!!! I wish you all the baby dust!! :)

AFM - spotting stopped, thank GOD! New news...so my brother-in-laws step son (confusing, eh?) kicked him out of the house. What kind of person does that???? Anyway, he is currently staying with us. Not exactly what I was thinking of when we wanted to add to our family...oh well. Poor kid has had it rough. Sure he won't be here long so he can just enjoy a normal family life for now....

Hello ladies from a much calmer place this evening!!

Gina that dentist sounds so rude!!!

Leora: ah that's very tough that yourself and david have different views on this. The past few years must have put huge strain on you both.

Christy: tough call for you both. How long does the adoption process take in the us?

Maria: oh wow those photos are amazing!! And im so thrilled all is going well and that you can go on the cruise. Plus that testing g seems good too. That's all so wonderful x

LauraN: lol, I have stepped away! How are you feeling?

Julia: im not sure what those drugs are, which stage are you at?

Cyn22: welcome and good luck. I cant answer your question im afraid but maybe someone else can

Akdelp: that's an unexpected development!! How old is he? Really glad spotting has stopped

Nicole: how are you doing?

Afm: now that the panic is over and headache, nausea and dizziness have passed I feel a lot better! I have also taken on board all your advice about exercise and my last weights session will be next wed after my baseline where im pretty sure, particularly after all the down regulator!, that my ovariesnshould be quiet enough to start stimming. Af due thurs so hoping that happens too.

Good Evening Ladies,
I'm glad to see this board moving along and several former cycle buddies still here rooting us on. :D I don't care what anyone says our friends are always considered our family and we need their support now more then ever... and yes I'm also talking to all you stalkers out there right now reading this too, so join us and reconnect if you haven't already we'd love to hear how you've been! :D

Maria,
Your twins are doing so well, I love the u/s pictures esp. the 3rd pix with baby waving at mommy. It sounds like personalities are going to be like night and day with one very active and the other more cooperative for their photograph, meaning you may have to get separate beds so the other one can sleep. lol who am I fooling nobody will sleep... but that's not going to matter when you look into their eyes for the first time!

Ninde,
So glad you are feeling better! :D About adoption, in the states it can take anywhere from 6 months to several years all depending on several factors. For example, how selective are the adoptive parents with the abby's gender or even nationality such as skin and eye color being close to their own? Then we hear adopting a baby from another country is even more challenging. Aside from the expense, adoption is possible but it will take alot of legwork and more patience.

Leora,
My thoughts exactly, really who am I kidding that we could get pregnant the last month before IVF begins, yes it's wishful thinking and not to mention be sooooo nice not to take out that loan for this but I should be more realistic and know this time next month it won't even matter. I should be getting excited that IVf is about to happen, since I've already procrastinated for more then a year to give IVF another try. Yes it's very expensive program but knowing what I learned the first time when IVF didn't work, I wouldn't consider having it any other way then with a shared-risk program. I wish more and more banks were lenient with loans but I know we will have to use our tax refund for the meds and loan the rest to probably pay off in 7 yrs. Although you've told me health care is not equally the same in quality, I still envy others who have coverage but know in the end just as long as we can survive this journey....we will be holding that LO and knowing that makes my heart smile. Maybe I'm the forever optimist, but seriously what other choice do we have? Maybe it's seeing so many go through so much more then I've obviously gone through and still here stronger then ever who really are the inspiration. People out there have to decide for themselves but I'm holding on that frame of mind that someday we will be a mom. I wish you nothing more then a healthy happy family and I know with your persistance someday it's going to happen. But what's even more important is your relationship with dh, he is needing you to reconnect with him and over the cruise saw that you can be happy. So true, taking up hobbies and just spending quality time together is cruicial for any happy healthy marriage and this IVF can play a toll on our relationship. x

Cyn22,
I get so caught up on here, but wanted to warmly welcome you into our supportive group. Cool that you and dh have teenagers who someday can help out with changing diapers. :D Again Welcome, we're looking forward to getting to know you.

LaureN,
So excited that AF is here and you can get to cycling! Besides bcp, what's the protocal looking like?

AFM: today dh had the b/w done for part of the Attain screening process. I had the clinic call him to give him the doctor order so Labcorp could pull it up with no problem when he went in the afternoon. When I come home, poor thing had his upper arm all bandaged like the circulation is up off. I help him get that gauze off and he tells me on their screen today he read our diagnosis and will continue to forever blames himself. Does anyone else's dh feel guilty about the whole process when they really shouldn't? Obviously I think it's me with my bad thyroid, but how do we come to an agreement to accept this for what it is and stop blaming ourselves?

So unsure on the dates right now, I should find out tomorrow, because the dates are having to change since we will be doing pgd and do a 5 day biopsy with a 6 day transfer. They need to make sure the biopsy won't be on a weekend. But, regardless, I will start on Lupron(2 times per day), then the next day, start my gonal f and menopur (so total of 4 shots per day). Then, when done with stimms (historically about 9 days for me), then we will trigger on the evening of day 9, continue with Lupron until the day after trigger. Then, ER will be around 26 hours later. Then, the fun and difference starts. They will grow all of my embies to 5 days, then the morning of the 5th day, they will biopsy all of the fresh embies and biopsy my 1 frozen, send it off and we will get the results overnighted and do a 6 day transfer. What I don't know right this second is when exactly I'll be starting the Lupron. My wonderful IVF nurse is figuring it all out today and when I got in tomorrow morning for the bloodwork, she'll lay out the dates for me. Our goal is to do the ER by April 10th or real close to it. That way, the due date would be by the end of the year. :D

Once I get the details, I will share with everyone. Have a great evening ladies!

Leora- I haven't talked with my dr yet about this. I saw her at the u/s, but she didn't say much about it. She sent us out with the blood draw and a phone call later to confirm. I still have to go in for another beta to make sure it drops completely. I would be quite surprised to have a beta after this much bleeding and cramping.

I will be asking about what our next steps are now that I had 2 m/c back to back. I had another one back in 2004. All the other times were bfn. She mentioned chromosomal testing before, so I will probably pursue that first.

I am a speech language pathologist in a Seattle middle school. I supervise graduate student clinicians in their first year. I haven't stepped up to interns yet, but might in the future. Our profession requires 2.5 years of graduate school with multiple site placements. We then have a clinical fellowship year after graduation. SLPs are licensed at that point but are not allowed to practice without 36 weeks of supervised employment. It's a good job. I enjoy it.

I have a major headache today. I've had two vicodin and a baclofen and I still don't feel well. At least I can focus now to write to you all.

Gina - how did your hormone check-up go? Ready to get the ball rolling yet?

Patricia - phew! so glad to hear your cycle isn't delayed/cancelled. Hopefully the lower dose will have fewer side effects!

Kerri - I hope you make it to 7 weeks and then much much much further! I'm glad the spotting stopped. I had a ton of bleeding with my boys, and they were always fine. At 7 weeks, you'll see a ton of stuff on the u/s, which sometimes is better than the vague and ambiguous earlier u/s.

Julia - Saturday? Yay! Starting stims is sooo exciting! Hopefully, I'll be just a few days/weeks behind you! I drive a Mazda 5 - which is like the size of a sedan but the shape of a mini-van, so I get the gas mileage and parking size of a sedan, with the versatility of a mini-van (I have fold flat seats -- I have a third row of seats, but when it's up, things get smushy - so I can take either 5 passengers and a ton of cargo, or 7 passengers and no cargo). We were standing in the dealership, about to buy a sedan (the Mazda 3) when a couple came in with a baby in a carseat and a stroller -- they started trying to put the carseat in the sedan, holding the door open with their butts and maneuvering. Then we watched them try out the minivan -- just sliding the doors open and having a ton of room to put the baby in. Since we were TTC when we bought the car (3.5 years ago...), we decided to go with that! I love it!

LauraN - yay! I'm on a dose of Provera now, also hopefully starting AF a few days after stopping. In some ways, it's nice to know this is your last cycle. I know everyone is jealous that my IVF is completely paid for, but in a way, that makes it sooo much harder to stop treatments. Hopefully this cycle works, and if not, you figure something else out.

Maria - yay! Isn't it amazing how much they grow in just a few weeks? Any sex guesses yet?

Cyn - welcome! There's no way they can open your husband's blocked sperm duct? We have non-obstructive near-azoospermia -- meaning everything is 'open' but still almost no sperm from DH. We always get checked that we'll have sperm. We even have a frozen sperm sample, just in case on ER day, something happens and we don't have fresh sperm. Maybe ask about freezing a sample as back up?

Christy - really try not to blame anyone. At the beginning for us, this was my fault (the anovulation) then it became David's fault (near azoospermia). Now, I feel like it's my fault again (unable to carry the pregnancies) and he feels like it's still his fault (we would never had twins again without the IVF, which we have to do because of him and he thinks the miscarriages are related to the IVF). In the end, we can't 'blame' anyone -- we want to have a baby together, and this is what it's taking to do that. Try to focus on that.

What happened with your DH's blood draw? I've had some pretty bad ones (blood spurting across the room, no blood coming out, etc) and never had to bandage myself up that much! :D

Nicole (blue eyed) - we did genetic testing (karyotypes of both us, D about 3 years ago to try to explain his azoospermia - and me now after the latest miscarriage) -- it's a simple blood test and then about 3-5 months of waiting for results. Have you done the RPL testing? (Blood clotting factors, etc) I'm glad you like your job! What kinds of things to you do? (I have no idea what a speech language pathologist does! My sister saw a speech therapist for a lisp when she was little - something like that, or not?)

AFM - OUCH! You know when you rip a cuticle a little bit and the whole side of your fingernail gets inflamed? Well, that happened with my left pinkie finger, on the 'outside' side. I never realized how much I use that! When I type, I almost always "shift" and "control" with that finger (and I use "control" all the time with the work software). OUCH!

Last night was great! Instead of eating dinner in front of the TV (which we know we shouldn't do), we played a board game over dinner (which we love doing -- we are really into board games and have quite a few that are for 2 players so we can play alone) and then went to Zumba together. After getting home, we showered together and watched TV before bed (I think we are the only ones in the world watching "Alcatraz"! It's such a crappy show, but kinda a guilty pleasure at this point). So wonderful.

Tonight we have to go into town to shop for costumes for Purim (which is Thursday in most of the world, but Friday in Jerusalem). Hopefully that will be fun too!

Day 3 of Provera.... 4 more days until I stop and about a week and a bit until I start stims (hopefully!)

Ninde- menopur and follistim are both stims. So Saturday we start growing follies! The tech (who I love!) saw 9 already. Idk if that's normal or what but it made me hopeful lol. This cycle seems to be going so quickly, I can't believe we are already at thirds point again.

We-those are wonderful pictures!! You must be so excited. Thanks for sharing!

Leora-that sounds like a great vehicle! The big selling point for us on the Cadillac was the backseat being seemingly so made for car seats. My best friends babies car seat goes in so easily so we are happy with that.

Afm- this menopur shot that I start Saturday is already worrying me. My nurse showed us how to mix it and administer it but i'm afraid I will mess it up. I have a step by step picture guide on how to do it too but i'm confused about which needles to use etc. hopefully it will be no big deal.

Julia - I used Puregon (which comes in a pen, like GonalF) on my first cycle, which was easy-peasy. Then I was switched to Menopur. The Menopur is scarier, I agree, but simple once you get used to it. Check out this link - http://www.ferringfertility.com/medicat ... enopur.asp or look up "inject Menopur" on YouTube. I had a nurse show me the first time. It's pretty simple. Good luck! I always feel like a mad scientist while mixing drugs to self-inject, which is kinda fun :D

just remember to switch needles before injecting --- the sharper the needles is, the less it hurts! (sounds strange, but it's true. You dull the needles putting it in the rubber stopper of the vial, so switch to a sharper one to inject if you have enough!)

Hey ladies - great to see some new faces and also lots of activity this week. So glad that many of you are getting into your cycles - I know how hard it is to wait!

Leora - sounds like you had a great trip! I hope you and your husband come to agreement on your cycling plans - you want to be at peace with that before you get into a cycle.

AKdelp - glad to hear your spotting has stopped. Sounds like you have a lot going on in your house these days - good luck with your step-nephew(?)

Blue - so sorry to hear your chemical update :( Sounds like chromosomal testing makes sense so they can figure out what is going on. Glad to hear you had a great anniversary - makes me want to go to cheesecake factory!

AFM - I've been feeling MUCH better for the last week or so! We found out on Monday we are having 2 boys and a girl! We are so excited to have a mix of genders and my husband is overjoyed with 2 boys (he always wanted a brother)! Now we have more planning and nursery prep to do! At this point I go back every 2 weeks for ultrasounds to check on how the babies are growing! If anyone wants to see pix, I posted a few on the PAT board. I'll probably move over there for the most part but will still check in periodically to see how you are all doing! Baby dust!!!
