deficiency of vitamin B12

Post by ash »

Hello,

I just wanted to share my experiences and any input on the same would be really welcome.

Me 33, Dh 34. Irregular periods (not PCOS). 3 IUI 's resulting in 1 chemical & 1 ectopic. 2 IVF's resulting in one 12 week missed abortion and the D&C on the same leading to asherman syndrome. The last sonogram at 12 weeks also revealed that the spine of the foetus was not developed properly.

of course all that lead too the battery of tests i.e the immunological, karyotype. all normal. was put on 5mg folic acid.

Went for a second a third and a fourth opinion regarding continuing TTC. all said it was definitely worth continuing. However one of the RE's over and above this tests wanted me to test the folic and my vitamin B12 levels as he said in his experience lack of this vitamin could result in the foetus improper development. Had it tested and was found to be deficient.

just about to start cycling and hence been put on Vitamin B12 injections for 10 days to pull up levels.

So anyone having any experience or info on this issue?

Wishing all love, luck and laughter and Oh yes babies too :)

I'm glad this was finally caught for you.

From what I've read, B12 deficiency is most common in vegans. There is a proven link between the shortage of it and both difficulty in conceiving and carrying full term once pg.

The UK RDA is 2.6mg but most pre-natal multi-vits have upto 3 times this as there's apparently no harm in having this amount extra. Just checked my skimmed milk carton and my large glass of milk has close to 50% of the RDA.

best of luck
Debra

Thanks all for your messages,

vmb,

How are you doing? Well i am having my treatment at Dr Sadhna Desai who is affliated to the Breach candy and Bombay hospital in Mumbai. She is one of the top RE's here. the treatment is done at her private clinic in South Bombay. her success rate is 25%.

there are other specialists like Dr jatin Shah(he was the one who picked up the B12 factor), Dr Firuza Parikh, Dr Malpani.

However here in India it is not mandatory to publish success rates so it is all by word of mouth.

take care & do let me know if u need any specifc numbers.

nicki,

hi me a converted veg i.e used to enjoy chicken but just decided to give up one day.( probably watched too much discovery)

love ash
