We're home

Post by Helen Reid »

Hi all

Thankyou all for your kind messages on the other thread.
We got home on Thursday and i am so glad after two and half weeks.
He did need help with his breathing for a couple of days and had the thing that went up his nose (not very good with remembering what they are called), he was very grunty when he was born and at first they thought he would be fine. He got to stay with me for a while but then went to special care. He also got fed by a tube and was in an incubator. He was moved to high dependitsy and after a few more days was breast feeding a little and getting top ups through his tube. Once off his monitors and the tube removed he breastfed well but then lost some weight. A week past today he got to my room on the understanding that he had to put weight on and would be weighed on the Wednesday but it was changed to Thursday and if he did he would be let out. He put weight on and then i was told Saturday as he had to have two weight gains. The sister went mental and told the doctor that the only reason she allowed him to be brought to the ward was on the condition i got out. So i got out and he is now over his birth weight 3.61kg (3.42kg when he was born).
I am enjoying being home and cannot believe he is actually here. He is up every 3-4 hours and is getting better at settling but the longest i have been up with him is 5 hours.

I had him in his bugaboo yesterday for his first walk.
Taking it easy and enjoying being a mummy.
I hope i did not scare anyone when i said about the swelling but i never thought it would happen to me. I was one of three emergency sections that day all due to pre eclampsia.

I will get got up slowly on all the news, I hope everyone is well and their bumps are growing nicely.

Love

Helen,

glad to hear you're all now home safe and sound......and you have a real live baby now to push in your bugaboo, no more having to push it around the house whilst empty!

Oh god, don't start me on mother in laws......by 8.30am this morning mine had called at least 12 times. I didn't answer any of them but by the end wanted to pick up and shout "look I'm pretending not to be in you silly cow!" ......sorry, that's me done now on in laws.....Tracey Sharps fault!

Hi all

Really enjoying being a mum. He is up every 3 hours at night so i get about 2 hours sleep and i am sleeping on the couch. Find it alot easier to feed him and change him down stairs and don't disturb dh to much. He is 4 wks now and getting bigger every day.

Tracey, my mother in law is fine now he is here, a bit over powering sometimes but i have just started to say what i am thinking and she just shuts up or does as i say. She is totally in love with him and so is my father in law, its amazing that something so small can change people overnight. She is not here everyday as promised (phew) but she always ask what the rota is for the week for my mum and sis coming, i think she likes him to herself but so does everybody. But every one is great i don't have to do a thing. My house is a mess but i just leave it.

Hope you are all well

Sue

How come I get the blame for everything around here :( I mean you all know how sensitive I am

Helen - so glad you are back - not sure I like the every 3 hours and sleeping on the settee bit - I ordered some different ones to that

As for MIL - good - glad all sorted and she is in her place - like you say amazing how babies change things!

Take care

Hi Helen,
Welcome home from me too, I am so glad you have your precious baby at home and all is well! You sound like you don't even mind the lack of sleep! I am amzed how things have changed - I remember you posting saying that your mother in law did not even want to acknowledge you being pregnant! Enjoy as much as you can!
love,
