Cristie: oh im so so sorry. How cruel that after your difficult journey that you should miscarry. I cant imagine how painful this must be for you. And whilst that's wonderful that your step daughter is about to give birth, im just so sorry that you cant have your own moment of joy. Im so so sorry
sorcet: oh again im sorry and I still hope that the hpt will change. Why is your dh against more treatment? I know its so hard on a couple. Can I help in any way?
Lynsey: I really hope you will get good news. When is your beta?
Afm: I have my wtf meeting tomorrow

Thank you ladies for all your support. This has been rough. Had no idea it was like this. I am so thankful I have my DS. He knows something is up and will not leave my side. Extra loving and that is wonderful.

Afm: I had my wtf mtg and surprisingly it went well. Unfortunately because I've had three such totally different cycles because of the egg numbers, drugs and embryo quality it seems its incredibly difficult to know if there is any one proble,m. We do know that my age, I'll be 41 in oct, is a definite factor. She said I can go again but that i have to understand that when there are three failed cycles (apparently my pregnancy which ended in miscarriage is considered a failure) then statistically it gets even less likely on subsequent cycles. So if we go again she is suggesting a hysteroscopy and then an endometrial scrape. Apparently there is good research supporting the scrape for increased implantation rates. What do you think?

Ninde: Just jumping in on this thread. I usually read the boards but don't post much. I wanted to say I am sorry your last IVF didn't work. I went through three failed IVFs (two were miscarriages one was a bfn) and then finally on my fourth IVF/FET it worked. I hope if you go again that will be the case for you too. Although I am not a doctor I have to comment on the endometrial scrape...I would ask for a second opinion. After having multiple D&Cs for mulitple miscarriages I had learned a lot about a condition called Asherman's Syndrome (which is primarily caused from scraping the uterine lining wether it be a D&C or jus scraping the lining)...if it seems like scraping the lining should be avoided since it can cause scarring.
Also, it might be worthwhile to see another dr. for another opinion on protocol. After my second failed IVF I went to another clinic and they drastically changed my protocol-that cycle yielded twice as many eggs and much better quality embryos. For the thrid IVF (at the new clincic) I did miscarry, but I from that cycle I had over 11 blasts to freeze (which was amazing considering the first IVF I only resulted in three embryos all of which were bad quality so I had none to freeze, and the second cycle I had some embryos to freeze but they were frozen on day 2 and the highest quality.) I hop eyou do'nt mind my chiming in, just wanted to offer my thoughts and express my concern over a doctor wanting to scrape the uterine lining to help implantation when that could actually end up causing problems with scarring.
Silentbob: thank you so much for your thoughts and i will definately do that. May I ask you a question? When you said your protocol was dramatically changed can you tell me how? I am nearly 41 and my re said to me yesterday because my egg reserve is low they cant increase the number of eggs. On my first ivf I had 10 eggs, on my second 5 and on my third with menopur instead of puragon I only got 3 but of that 2 embryos of much better quality were the result. Is it actually possible to get more eggs with numbers li,e mine?
Many many thanks
Patricia

Ninde,
At the new RE they had me take DHEA for three months three times a day prior to starting the IVF cycle. I think this helped with the increased number of eggs and the quality. I am in my early thirties but have a high FSH (I think it was 14 or 15) at the time we started the process.
The new doctors also added some medications like a steroid that is supposed ot help with response . My doctor also said for that when they are concerned about response and quality for a woman they have had lots of luck with the Letrozole Flair (you take Femara at the start of the cycle and then add the FSH injections) protocol (they are having a lot of success with that protocol).
Lyndsey: I am really really sorry. I had honestly hoped you had a late implanter. I can imagine you trying to get yourself together and I'm sending you much strength x
Silent bob: I will bring all of that to my re. Thank you so much

On my lunch break, I just went and bought 6 new bras at a lingerie boutique that is going out of business. It was a high end boutique, and she was selling them all for $20 each!
I also went to GNC and bought fertility supplements for both DH and I. We've never taken any, but it can't hurt to try. We're going to have to wait a while to save up to try again, so I figure we should do everything in our power to give us the best chance.
Our main problem is low sperm count. For my DD cycle in 2009 his count was 3 million, this time it was 2.2 million. I think there were some motility issues as well. I think morphology was fine. I have never been diagnosed as anything, but I have long cycles and my FSH was either 9 or 10, which I think is a little on the high side, but they said anything under 12 was fine. I just wish so badly that we had had some frozen embies from this round that we could transfer. It would be quick and I wouldn't have to go through the long, miserable, and expensive process of egg retreival again.
I really love my RE and everyone at the clinic, but I can't help but wonder if I should seek out another opinion. We're 1 for 3 on treatments, and neither of my 2 fresh cycles have ever lead to a BFP, only our FET, which makes me think that we may need assisted hatching like they did on my FET. When the RE could identify the 2 leading embies, he moved for a 3dt, so I don't know if any would have made it to day 5, as the other three that fertilized didn't.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Lyndsey: well done on the bras!! I'm a big lingerie fan!! It's funny you should mention assisted hatching because I mentioned at our meeting on tours and she said there is very little to suggest it's helpful and she said it was all the rage 15 years ago but it's old technology

Ninde~ I also did the DHEA before my last cycle and my egg quality was better. I also exercised a lot because I think exercise is so good for hormones, etc.
BRmommy~ I was sad to read your post. This IVF stuff is such a difficult journey. Does your RE do icsi for your DH's sperm count? I'm thinking of you today.
AFM~ just waiting for my U/S on 9/24. Somedays I think there could be 3 in there, sometimes 2, sometimes 1 and then my mind worries and I fear no heartbeat. 9 more days.

Lindsey, so sorry about your news. I had a fresh cycle with assisted hatching. DH doesn't have low sperm count actually its very high, however the sperms were shaped oddly. I think my RE suggests it as part of their protocol. I used the emory reproductive center in Atlanta. There protocol is listed on their website. Good luck to you. Sending lots of hugs your way
