Hello ladies. I am brand new to the site. I had an ectopic pregnancy last June and had to have my left tube removed. I had an HSG test the following month. The results showed that my right tube was open but showed clubbing in some areas. I've been trying to get pregnant for almost a year now and nothing is happening. I had my yearly pap done on Monday and my doctor explained to me that inv was my best option due to some scarring he found on my remaining tube. He then referred me to a fertility specialist. I had my first ivf consultaion on Thursday and the specialist is suggesting I get the remaining fallopian tube removed to increase my chances of a successful pregnancy  She explained that I have trapped fluid in the tube which is toxic to the embryo. She would like to either remove the tube or implant an Essure device to permanent block the tube. This is so scary to me. Removing my remaining tube is the only way I could get pregnant naturally. Grant it, I haven't been able to in almost a year but I guess I was just hoping for it to happen. So now my doctor is going to schedule the surgery this month to remove the tube and I can start the process. This is so scary. I'm so glad I found you guys. I really need some support right now. I'm surrounded by pregnant girlfriends with multiple children already and they don't really understand the problems I'm facing.

Brightstarr- I'm glad you found us too. I couldn't imagine the thoughts that are racing through your mind as you prepare for surgery. It sounds scary has the dotor given you enough time to decide this is this best option? Is dh on board with this too? It's still hard to accept it I know, the fallopian tubes are part of the reproductive system losing them is like taking the natural way completely out. But once you come to accept this option you will see IVF is the middleman to bringing home your baby AND once you are holding that baby in your arms nothing else in the whole world will seem to matter. I completely understand what you mean about everyday people and those friends around you- it's hard for them to grasp any of this. That is why we are here for you every step of the way. :D Welcome and if you need anything we are right here. :D
Sincerely,
Christy

Christy- Thanks so much. My doctor told me to bring in my HSG images to get a better view. She was making that suggestion based on what my Ob saw during my laproscopic surgery when he removed my tube during my ectopic pregnancy. My specialist said that she would call me next week with her final decision but she thought nine times out of ten that the tube needed to be either removed or permanently blocked. She said if we decide to go with the removal of the tube the healing time is 1 month and we could start ivf in June. She said if we decided to go with the Essure device then we would have to wait 3 months for the tube to completely close then we could start ivf in August. I came home and discussed it with DH and he was shocked at first. Then he turned to me and said "babe this is such an expensive procedure. Why go into it decreasing your chances of success. Regardless of whether the tube is there or not we have to have faith that God will bless us with a child". :D Then I thought about it for a day or two. He is absolutely right. I have to have faith that inv will work. I prayed that she would not have to do the surgery but if so I'm board. She will call by mid week to tell us which avenue we would need to take. I'm so excited and scared at the same time. I hate needles so taking the shots are freaking me out the most! LOL. Dh is fully on board and ready for all of my hormonal changes that awaits him lol.

Btw I spell my name Kristy :)

Very Cool- Kristy, I love that your husband says he is ready for crazytown. lol You will do great though and even on those nights that are emotional (from the hormone shots) do keep your faith alive that something good is coming from all this. You'll need to place your faith that His timing is perfect...The hardest part for me was having patience I wanted to have full control of everything happening but I learned IVF sometimes works when you least expect it too. Absolutely keep us posted on what you find out this week. I cannot wait to cheer you on with this upcoming IVF cycle! :D

How are we supposed to keep all these Kristy people straight??? LOL

Welcome Kristy. I never had an ectopic but had the same situation with fluid filled tubes. My IF specialist also recommended removal to increase success rates and then referred me to my RE. I still some days wish I had tubes so even there was a SLIM chance that I could get pregnant naturally. But the reality is that you are also at very high risk of another ectopic if you keep that tube. I struggled with it mightily and ultimately decided to remove. It was a painful thing afterword emotionally, it makes you feel completely barren. That feeling is still there for me at times but one beautiful daughter and three years later I am much more at peace with it. So I think you and DH are right to put this much thought into it, and you really dont want another ectopic. Personally I would remove it and get going... I pray your baby awaits! We are hre for you.

If you ever need to talk one on one just PM me.

Brightstarr/Christy- Welcome from another Cristie. I am sorry to hear you have had so much trouble in this journey, but that is what we are here for. I had a MS last fall and it was not easy to get over. Please fill free to ask all the questions you need to. We are here for support and a shoulder to cry on when you need it. Glad to hear DH is on board. My hubby thinks this modern world of medicine it way cool, except the part where he has to give me the shots.

Kasia- Looking forward to hearing about your U/S coming up on Friday. Hope you are feeling well?

Christy- I will call my OB after my U/S next Monday. I have a feeling she will see me once and refer me to high risk doc since I had Christopher at 35 weeks with pre-eclampsia . I know the head of her clinic said she thought that was best for me when she saw me last.

AFM- Really feel like I am in a fog. Everything I touch goes to crap. It is like my mind cannot handle anything. Hope it gets better soon. Tomorrow I am hosting a Mother/Daughter pedicure party for my 8-11 year old girls at church. I hope it goes well.

Christy, Cristie, & Alisa: Thank you all so much for all of your kind words. I still haven't heard back from the fertility doctor yet about whether or not I need to have my surgery. The nurse said that I should get an answer by 5/24 during my in vetro orientation. I'm just so ready to get started. The nurse also called to tell me that my blood work came back and showed I'm not immune to chicken pox. My doctor would like to hold off an additional 2 months on the in vetro to get my vaccinations for it. I hate saying this but I think I will have to pass on the vaccinations because I'm not sure how long I well have my fertility benefits. My job is going through some changes in a few months and my insurance will be affected. Right now I have $10,000 towards in vetro. In a few months that may change. I'm just going to pray really hard that I do not catch chicken pox. I made it 33 years without it :?

Hello Everyone! I notice some familiar and new faces...but Dh and I are back in the ring for another round of IVF. We had my daughter in February 2012 from our first round of IVF and are looking to expand our family now and doing a FET in the coming months.

*Brightstarr - your post hit home with me as I was scheduled to do my FET this month and when I did my bloodwork in the beginning of April they came back to me and told me I wasn't immune to chicken pox (I did have it as a child as well!) I was completely shocked as this wasn't told to me last IVF and they said they just started testing for this last year. I also had concerns with insurance as my year ends 6/30 and we are fortunate to have IVF covereage. After talking to my doctor my husband and i decided to put the FET on hold and get the vaccines but it was really hard as I just wanted to move forward as well. The worst part is my clinic is closed the last few weeks of June and first week of July so I have to wait till end of July now for a transfer. I called this morning though and complained a bit as it looks to me they sat on my bloodwork for 2 weeks before letting me know and had that not been done I would have been able to do a June cycle. So they are talking with the doctors and I'm hoping they make an exception and do my FET in June.

*Blissful - best of luck for your FET on Saturday!

Congrats to all the BFP's on the board! Looks like there are have been quite a few recently :D

Dreams: So I am not the only one. I explained to the nurse that I would like to go forward without the vaccinations for now due to possible upcoming benefit changes. She said she definitely understood. I do not come in contact with many children at work so I really hope and pray I can dodge this bullet until after I have my baby. Fingers Crossed. Decisions decisions decisions. Sheesh. Fingers crossed for you too on the June transfer :D

I really feel like I have been neglecting you ladies. Sorry and I will try to be more active.

Brightstarr- I would move forward as well. It is not like we see chicken pox that often anymore and with the chance of loosing the ivf coverage I would go for it. I hope they can get you in as soon as possible and get this crazy train started.

Dream2009-Welcome back. Good luck with your FET. How many frosties do you have? Keep us posted. We are here to cheer you on.

Blissful- Let's get this little one home where he belongs. Will you be POAS?

Christy-Sunshine- Hope you are feeling well. Has Michael head anything back on his last interview?

AFM-Been trying to take it easy. Tuesday night I had a little dark brown spotting. Then again Wednesday and Thursday. Just once each day. I think I over did it at the gym on Tuesday walking at a higher speed than normal. Not sure what I was thinking. Tried to take it easy Wednesday and made it through my little party with the girls, but don't want to tell anyone yet. I know this is totally normal for IVF and dark brown is better than red, but still hate it. Yesterday I really tried to stay off my feet and will do the same again today, but a little hard with a toddler running around. So today I am laying on the couch until about 11:30. Then I am taking the boy to the park for about 45 minutes. The sun is out and I have to take advantage of it here in Seattle plus I can sit on the bench while he goes crazy. Hard to believe he will be 2 on the 22nd. :D

Dreams2009- Welcome back!!! With the chicken pox I thought once you are vacinated we don't have to worry about this?

BrightStarr- Awww 2 weeks away, it seems like all we do around here is wait and then wait some more. lol

Cristie- I experienced brown spotting during week 6-9, the body is still adjusting to being pregnant, but it scared me too.

AFM: MIchael got a call back for a 2nd interview up in Ft. Payne Alabama next Wednesday. This week has been tough he cleaned out his office at work but left behind all his memorabelia, his 250 page portfolio with all his academic highlights/rewards. He made a shrine in his office with the door left wide open with emails one from his college president stating what a good job he was doing and several emails from being nominated for Professor of the Year. Everyone in the building loved him but his job is no longer there. Social Science division is being revamped, courses are being cut and during the meeting he could had been told this instead he was told he didn't fit in with this institution. It was brutial I just want to hug him and tell him everything is going to be ok. The support and love has been incredible, I plan to have a cookout sometime in June and invite his closest friends. I'm doing good with the pg, but somedays I feel too normal so who knows. We are scheduled to find out what we are having on 6/18 but Michael is unable to come so I might change the date I really want him to be there.

Hi everyone and welcome Dreams.

I agree on moving forward brightstar. I decided to run a marathon to take time to let needing IVF sink in. Marathon was in October of 09. Our company was acquired by another one in November and a $15,000 lifetime benefit went up in smoke. So My first marathon had one hell of an entry fee!

I only have a minute... but wanted to say how thankful I am for you all.

Christy-so sad that you and Michael have to deal with this in the middle of your pregnancy. You are doing great.

Cristie- slow down mama!

AFM- transfer tomorrow at 11:30. I have been busy the last few days "nesting"... LOL... Taking as much off my personal and professional plate so I can relax in the 2ww. Wish me luck with that!

Hi Amanda- welcome and good luck on Monday!

AFM- yesterday didn't exactly go as we hoped. We had to thaw all 7 of our remaining 2day embies to get three of average quality. Transfer was difficult due to my extremely tilted cervix. The RE had trouble seeing the proper placement and it took 30 minutes versus the 5 it usually takes. Trying to stay positive!

Amanda- Welcome to the group. WOW! 9 IUIs. I could only handle 2 before moving on to IVF. I am wishing you the best on luck on Monday. You have to come to the right group for support. We are here to lean on when you need us.

Blissful- You are PUPO so enjoy. Hopefully those little ones surprise you and you get another sweet babe.

Christy- I know the spotting is normal, but your right it is scary. Hoping Micheal has safe travels this week.

AFM-Great U/S today. Good strong heartbeat at 155. Guess I will tell my mom now. I have been afraid until now. I m/c last time just before u/s so I wanted to be cautious. She wont he happy I waited, but it is what it is. Next u/s is 5/24.
Spotting has stopped and I am taking it easy. I guess I should have asked if I should work out anymore. Will see OB the 29th.
