Just starting

Greetings all!

I am at the very very very beginning of this whole process. I had an initial consult with an IVF specialist on Tuesday. I might not be, but I feel like I'm atypical to this group. You see I had a natural pregnancy in 2000. Then I got divorced. I've been in a longer relationship for two years. We have had unprotected sex for almost out entire relationship (we both want a child). Well now at 44 I have to believe I'm not going to get pregnant naturally. At this age and with the low success rates for non-donor eggs at my age, I'm skipping everything and going straight for IVF with DE. I'm looking for advice on pitfalls in this process as I move forward. The dr wants to do a saline ultrasound, HSG, blood levels, and sperm tests for him. What questions should I be asking?

Hello.. I too feel as you do... ironic that I have just noticed your username .... good luck with going down the ivf track.i think doing all the testing first is the only way to go as it will help guide your ivf process. Also considering nothing has happened in the 2yrs of unprotected sex I would say ivf is the way to go. You're taking a positive step in the right direction..Only pitfalls hahah ''only''cost, so draining emotionally, and there are no promises of success..? I too have conceived naturally. .. almost 4 years ago now. Am just on my 2ww from our first ivf cycle.Wishing you luck for the journey ahead.

Onlyhooeful...i am as well in my 2 week wait and I'm going nuts. I Find out 2-24-14 have u been having any symptoms?

Hopeful mommy...good luck on this adventure cuz that's exactly what it us! Try to stay positive as much as u can cuz otherwise it will drive u insane!!

oooohhhh Jenhu77 thats one more day away how exciting for you!!! No, no symptoms other than bloating (but i have been bloated since i started with all the fertility drugs.. i think everything else is my imagination lol.. I have been reminding myself not to get ahead of myelf.. yesterday we found out our other day 5 embryos didnt make it for freezing... so "onlyhopeful" isnt very hopeful atm LOL! We only had the one transfer (what our clinic only allows for couples under35) so i feel like im clutching at straws:( how about you do you have any symptoms? how are you feeling for tomorrow?

Onlyhopeful...I don't really know if they are symptoms cuz I'm pregnant, or if its the meds or my period comin? My boobs were more sore earlier on then not so much. But yesterday boobs hurt a little more and today not as bad. I'm bloated for sure, had no "implantation" discharge that I know of, but not everyone does. I thought my sense of smell changed at one point, then back to normal. I was peeing a little more early on, now back to normal. I started having hiccups, per se, on and off as well. Just had a couple while writing you...LOL!!

These are the same symptoms as I had with 1st IVF, so I'm not feeling so hopeful. I'm trying to think positive.

Sorry bout your embryo that didn't make it. I had one like that as well with 1st IVF that didn't make it. When do U find out?

jenhu77 it's so difficult to keep yourself sane! Everything feels like something until you remind yourself... dont get ahead of yourself!! The the next time you think.. "could it be..." ahhh crazy cycle... Were you ment to test today 24th? praying for bfp for EVERYONE.... ill jump on the other thread as soon as i have more time up my sleeve.. i will be able to check on the 4th march.
