Day 5 transfer with grade c/b blastocyst

Post by Alistair1 »

Hi, this is my first post. We had our first ivf this week (after unsuccessful iui). Egg recovery went well, 13 follicles, 7 eggs, 5 mature, 4 fertilised. On day 3 clinic said everything was going great, all 4 were 8 cell and good quality. On morning of day 5 we're told 2 we're no good, 1 was blastocyst but not as good as hoped and graded c. The 4th was still 8 cell embryo, wouldn't be good for freezing so had option to put this one in too. By afternoon when we had transfer the first one was doing better and now grade b but still not 'ideal'? Second one done nothing more, we had both put in. The clinic didn't sound positive but we were hoping someone on here with similar experience could help us feel positive and know there's still a chance?

Alistair1 there is always a chance.. the whole deal of ivf is a chance... even if the clinic doesnt sound hopeful who knows what that little emby will be able to do once its back in its natural environment.... when i went through my first cycle i was so shocked to be told my clinic actually dont 'grade' embryos! i thought ohhh no! how will i know if its any good? The embryologist gave me some wise words.... if its going to stick it will stick :) Now although they did tell me they dont 'grade' them so to say.. they did keep an eye on them and obviously watched them change through the stages.. now i look back on my experience and i think if (the embryo) is surviving and 'growing' what more do we need to know? we dont go through enough? now we have to compare grades and numbers and torture ourselves to think is it good enough??
i have read lots on the net about perfect blastocysts not always meaning it will develop in to a healthy baby and vias versa....good luck

Thanks for the reply. We are trying to stay positive it' feels like a life time ago since we started the treatment, it's been a week!! Our friends were having IVF and they are now 25 weeks pregnant with a little boy, they also had 3 to freeze, I think because of this we also expected to have some to freeze so it was disappointing. After reading endless forums trying to find an impossible answer it seems that if you have some to freeze it's quite lucky? Anyway, 4 days and we can test, fingers crossed!

Just done a HPT and it's positive!!! I only had 2000mg trigger shot and it's day 11. Could this be a false positive??
