Pregnancy Acne...

Post by babydreamz »

I look like a alien!! My skin has erupted so bad. Everyday, there is a new pimple on my face

All I have been doing is washing my face, twice a day with Avalon face wash, applying toner and applying tooth paste(weird?!) at night ( it has a cooling effect, but not really helping the acne)

My hormones are going berserk...any suggestions? Should I just wait it out, and maybe it will subside by 12 weeks? consult a dermatologist? any home remedies (my preference)?

I want pregnancy glow that I have heard so much about....!!!!!!!

Any suggestions/advice from mommies to be...

Thanks and happy and uneventful pregnancy to all!!

Pregnancy acne is normal. I get it too. However, over-treating it can actually irritate skin and make it worse. I think I'd talk to my OB if it is completely out of control. I know there are certain things you cannot use while pregnant, maybe your OB has some suggestions of other things that may help. For me, washing once a day and exfoliating every few days seems to help.

Thank you, Mama!
you are right, I think I will stick to just washing twice a day. Maybe consult dermatologist if acne persist after 12 weeks.

I had the opposite problem. Bad skin before pregnancy, went on Accutane, got pg 1 1/2 months later, had GORGEOUS skin (which was expected), then started to break out again when the twins were about 6 weeks old. Now my face is back to the way it was pre-pregnancy. The hormones completely undid what the Accutane was supposed to achieve. Totally sucks. I have a derm appt tomorrow to see what I need to do. Blah.

But the babies are worth it!

I've read that the only way to effectively treat hormonal acne such as this is with antibiotics. I had it during the end of my pregnancy and the whole time I breastfed DD, and it's starting to come back now. I tried everything topical I could think of before but nothing worked. It went away about a week after I stopped nursing DD. It sucks, but it will go away.

babyluv3 - be careful with Accutane, especially if you are thinking of having any more kids! It causes serious birth defects. I'm actually thinking you were very lucky getting pregnant so soon after getting off of it and not having issues with your babies.

Well, some women get it worse than others but I would also think maybe your diet could use a boost. Are you eating plenty of protein? And plenty of water? You need 100 grams of protein a day and 8-10 glasses of water. Just a suggestion. You may be eating fine. Those darn hormones can make you break out anyway.

I also had acne before I got pregnant, and after the pregnancy my skin became normal.

It is a normal thing. Do not worry about it
