OHSS - My advice for anyone about to have EC!!!!!!

Post by DonnaF »

What a couple of weeks.

Despite only having a couple of follicles for my first couple of scans, my Clinic increased the dosage of Gonal and I manged to get a wonderful total of 13 eggs which were collected on Wed 14th. By that evening I knew that something was up.

I was taken into hospital on the Thursday and diagnosed with OHSS. It has been absolutely terrible and definitely the worst experience of my life.

Two embryos were frozen (they had reached blastocyst) and after a week and a half I am now getting back on my feet.

I was exceptionally stupid and didn't drink much water before EC and because of being so sick couldn't drink a thing. So please girls take my advice and drink, drink, drink! My Clinc told me that if I had have drunk I wouldn't have been dehydrated and probably would not have got OHSS.

Lots of love,

Donna

Donna

Firstly how dreadful for you - it's just awful and I am so glad you are coming out the other end - what a nightmare.........

Thank you for posting this as I always seem such a nag when I tell them all to drink so much - I can see them all  and going "Tracey is off again" but it really is important.

Hang in there - I take it you will have FET with the blastos then?
Good luck

Thanks Tracey!

Yes I will have FET, but not yet :D

I really hope that people realise how nasty OHSS can be and drink and drink, because not only do they risk being very very unwell, but it puts you off of ever doing IVF again I can tell you.

Take care,

Donna

You won't want to hear this right now but I am convinced those of use who are susceptible to overstimming and therefore ohss really can benefit from FET!

Good luck

Hi Donna

Poor you getting OHSS. I have had it too and it is just sooooo bloody painful. My story is on Mia's thread about OHSS. I am glad you are feeling better and wish you loads of luck with your FET whan you decide to have it.

I wish I had known the dangers of not drinking enough before I got OHSS.

Well done for bringing this to the attention to everyone as I am sure there are many other girls out there who are like I was and thought it would never happen to them.

Good luck Donna
