I am new to this site. Found out through a HSG last week that I have a polyp/fibroid at least 1cm in size near the neck of my uterus. One fertility Dr. recommended I have it removed and another fertility Dr. said its my choice and that I could start UVF with it still there??. I am 42 yrs old (have endometriosis and also only got one ovary - since birth) so I am probably only going to have one shot at IVF so I opted for surgery as I want the best chance possible. Was this the best choice?. Annoyingly enough my fertility clinic called me today to see if I wanted to start IVF this cycle - I would really have loved to have said yes but I think realistically I had to opt for the surgery?. I know there can sometimes be a few month wait time to even get started with IVF too at my clinic (in Canada) and this month it so happened there's no wait.
I guess I just need some assurance that I am doing the right thing, even though its just so hard waiting. I maybe able to have the surgery in Sept or Oct (more waiting) - that's also the hard part I just seem to be in limbo at the moment and in the mean time I am getting older each month.

I'm new to this site and just seeing this post. I'm sure you've already moved forward one way or another. I too found out that I had several polyps right before my transfer. My Dr. did a cavity camera before the transfer to check the environment of my uterus and found several polyps, some right where implantation is supposed to occur. He told me that it would be difficult for an embryo to find a smooth surface to attach to, and nearly impossible to carry a pregnancy to term. So, needless to say, I had the surgery. It did prolong the process, but after spending as much time, money and emotion tied to the ivf process, it only makes sense to know you have the best environment in your uterus for the little embryo. WHat did you decide to do?

I did get the surgery to remove what they thought was a polyp removed but it turned out to be a fibroid - they removed this- either way it is the best thing to have the uterus in as good a shape as it can be in.
I did go through a round of IVF - I managed to get 2 eggs - only 2 but they fertilised via ICSI and they put them back on day 2. Unfortunately though it did not result in a pregnancy. But due to my age (I'm not far off 43) and the fact I only have the one ovary the chances were pretty slim of IVF working, but you never know if you don't try.
I see my Dr. next week to discuss if I do another round of IVF (that's expensive if the chances of it working are slim) or I go onto the Donor egg route - that's much, much more expensive than IVF and as I am in Canada the Canadian $ is so weak against the US $ so it makes it even more expensive, but the chances of success are so much better for me than IVF. But at least I have options as it used to be if IVF did not work at my age that was it but these days there are options - so I am staying positive.
