IVF cost & how is everyone affording this

Hello everyone,
IVF is not cheap... but if there is no other way to become pregnant, money are not considered, they can be borrowed, or collected,
I have IVF for 9,900 euro for unlimited attempts, so I am sure I will be pregnant anyway, it all my attempts would be unsuccessful, I will have my money back, but I am absolutely sure I will be, becouse this clinic has fertilized a 66 year Sweden woman in Ukraine, its BioTexCom

Hi I have meds that I no longer need as my husband and I have decided that rather than go for another fresh cycle, we are going to try one last IVF attempt with our 1 x frozen embryo and then if no luck we will not try again.

The meds that I have available are as follows: I would prefer collection from London SE10.

3 boxes of 15 Cyclogest Progesterone 400mg (45 total). Two boxes expire Oct 2015 and one Jan 2015.
2 x Menopur 1200IU Multi-dose pen. Both expire Feb 2015
1 x Ovitrelle New Pen 250MCG (F54G02A1). Expires May 2014
1 Synarel 200MCG Nasal Spray 30 dose. NOTE: I have taken one sniff from this as I was starting a fresh cycle and then immediately stopped the same day when we decided not to go ahead). Expires June 2013.

The supplier of the above was Healthcare at Home Limited and I have the receipt for eveything dated 29.01.13 (all bar x 1 pack of the Cyclogest Progesterone as this was left over from a previous cycle). Everything has been kept in the fridge the entire time.

Friends of mine (some) decided to try clinics in other countries, e.g. Czech or Poland. There are some very good ivf clinics with high European success rate, good service and other advanced programs (e.g. IVF All Inclusive Egg Freezing or IVF Embryo Freezing Program). The ivf cost (or any other program) is much lower, as a clinic is situated in a low cost country.

For folks in the US, I have just discovered that, at least in some states, IVF is covered by Obamacare / Healthcare.gov. In Illinois, there are plans that cover up to 6 retrievals in a lifetime, and others that cover up to 4 in a year. Also, I found out that even if you have an employer plan available to you, you still have the option to get healthcare at Healthcare.gov. You can either decline your company plan and just get the national plan, or you can have both - so even if you're not at open enrollment for your company plan right now, you still can sign on for one of these plans - in Illinois for 2016, if I'm understanding the documentation correctly, it looks like there's one plan (Harken Health Care Gold 2) where premiums + max out of pocket for the year is < $7000, and 6 cycles are covered with no copay, and fertility drugs are also covered (with copay of $350/prescription)!!! The open enrollment ends for 2016 Jan 31, so you need to move fast if you want to sign up now.

I myself know lots of ladies who have undergone ivf/ivf de/ivf PGS NGS treatment at overseas clinics (Poland and Czech rep) and got pregnant on their first cycle. It also depends on a region where you live in and issues you have. If someone wants to save on infertility treatments, it's worth considering overseas clinics. Agree that IVF clinics in India might be an option, however, IVF clinics in Poland, Czech Rep, Cyprus and Greece also offer top notch treatments.

After 10-years of trying, we went through IVF and it cost around $25K. The cycle failed and our options are another cycle or donor eggs.

After viewing IVF success rates carefully at various clinics, I believe that people must plan for at least 2 or 3 cycles before they are going to have a high probability of success. At this rate, we're looking at $75K+ for expenses!

My questions to everyone out there: Are most of you paying for all this yourselves or is insurance paying for this? I can understanding doing 3 cycles if insurance is paying for it, but for 90% of the people out there, coming up with this kind of cash is very difficult.

Also, having gone through an IVF now, I believe that it is (for the most part) a cook-book process. For example, you have three options as far as the cycle, then you have some choices for the fertilization etc. Has anyone thought to ask WHY is this so expensive? Because looking at it logically, there is nothing that seems so earth-shattering new, especially 30-years later after the first IVF. Or, is this the case of the doctor's just milking it for what they can?

My only comparison is when vision corrective surgery came out, it was very expensive. Now, you can get it for about $2K per eye! Besides the lower equipment costs, the majority of costs in these procedures are doctor's fees, which inevitably go down as the number of doctors who perform these procedures increase. Based on this, my only conclusion is that IVF will drop in cost in the next 5-10 years as the number of doctors who perform this procedure increase--unless of course the doctors figure out a way to limit the number of doctors (competitors) that will do this. Once again, it's the AMA controlling costs by controlling supply.

Anyway, we're thinking about what to do next, and going abroad to a reputable clinic seems to be a good option for getting IVF done at a fraction of the cost ($7,500), which seems very reasonable. The cost of the medicine is about the same, but the doctor fees are A LOT less, and at this point, it just seems like a probability game.

Just my few thoughts...looking forward to others' ideas.

Hi.... I don't know your are talking about which country... But in the opinion of an Asia or in Indian, the cost you are sharing is too high.. I know in western the cost of Infertility treatments like IVF is very high and when you plan for 2-3 cycles it shoots the rate.
I suggest India is best place for an IVF treatment. The cost of IVF in India is started from $4K (0.2 Million INR) and which is quite low from your prices. The treatment in India is advanced and safest, many IVF Centers has high success rate in india, punjab. you can compare them online..
