I am 40 years old, just got married (we married late). And want to try for a child. Since we are apart due to citizenship issues (he is in India and me Canada) we are going straight to IVF when I go there in July. The clinic in India already had me start on DHEA and Contraception since last month.
I had the blood tests and a transvag U/S and these were my results:
Day 2 FH 5.8, LH 4.9 (both normal), TSH/AMA/Prolcatin etc were all normal.
Ovarian volume from the U/S was: R 5.9 ml, L 5.0 ml.
The one I am worried about I just got back today. AMH. My AMH was 6.6 pmol/l
According to the reference from the lab they used, 1.1-6.9 indicates 'reduced response' to Ovarian stimulation in regards to IVF.
0-1.1 is considered negligible response.
7.0 and over was considered 'normal response'.
Assay used was 'Beckman Dxl' if that helps (as I know there are several different methods each with different reference ranges. I attached a screenshot for reference.
So my question is, since I appear to be just under normal (only 0.3 pmol/l below what is considered normal for this method) It appears that I am in the higher part of the 'reduced' range bracket sitting not much under normal... does that mean IVF is still very possible to be successful (especially given rest of my tests are normal - my FSH was not high etc)?? Does it just mean they will use higher doses of the stimulation meds? Or is there a chance they will suggest cancelling?
p.s. I do not want to ever go the donor egg route. Please don't suggest so. I don't think I could ever deal with the emotional effect of having a child that is my husband's and another woman's. And I would see that every day and know that he/she would never be mine and every bit of what I would see in them would be another woman who created life with my husband. I would feel resentment that my husband was able to have a child and I was not. I would actually rather full on adoption as that way we would both not be biological parents. This is my own choice and I won't change it. I know some will feel I am being selfish... but I never actually wanted children at all until we married, and decided I wanted to try for one together. But I do not want that child to not be mine (unless we both go for adoption so its fair).
Anyway I am hoping we have some chance for IVF and our own biological child... hoping 6.6 pmol/l AMH is not too low to work with. If you see the attached image, it shows the references they are using that 7.0 and above is normal and 1.1-6.9 is reduced. Since I am 6.6 I am assuming I am not at the lowest end of reduced... hoping it means I am still close to normal and therefore will still respond to stimulation.
