bicornuate uterus

Post by candy »

Hi, I went for my follow up consult after my BFN and the Dr mentioned that maybe I should have surgery to correct a slight bicornuate. I am going to have a saline test on Wed so they can look at my uterus again then we can decide what to do. My question is, has anyone had the surgery and was IVF sucessful after that? I have only been thru 1 cycle of IVF so i think we are jumping a little ahead but the Dr said since I will only have insurance money left for one more cycle that we should consider the surgery. From what I read a bicornuate uterus increases the chance of miscarriage but I am nervous that they could create more problems if the surgery doesn't go well. If anyone has been thru this please let me know what you think.

Thanks!
Good luck to everyone!

Becky,
Thanks for the info. I had another test today to look at my uterus. The Dr said she is ok with going ahead with another IVF cycle since it isn't very bad. She just wanted to make sure I knew that there was a slight increased chance of miscarriage. I think we should be ok.
I live in Illinois - the beautiful flat lands. :?
Good luck to everyone!

Candy:

I don't know if you've been on the boards long enough to read about us talking about a clinic in Denver. THis clinic has over a 60% success rate...while the national average seems to be in the low 40%'s. I'm in the Chicagoland area and had my first IVF in July...tested early August. I did get a postive, thank god, but if it hadn't worked out we were going to head to Colorado for the 2nd and last round. Why not optimize your chances with a clinic that has the best success in the US was our thought process. Then again, you have to take into consideration that you're in a hotel or rental for about 2 weeks. So, if it's financially viable, you might want to give it a shot if you have one more round covered by insurance. My friends had 4 unsuccessful ivf rounds in Chicago and went to Colorado and came home with her son Trevor in her tummy. Also, if you want to talk more about it, Shannon on the other side "first trimester friends" is a patient there and pregnant with twins. Shannon also said that the clinic's unpublished results for the first 1/2 of 2004 is over 80% successful.
