IVF with pre implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD)

Post by loretta65 »

I am 41, having adenomyosis, endometriosis and blocked left Fallopian tube. Shortly, I will be starting on my third IVF. This time it will be with PGD as my doctors have told me that in my age group it gives at least a 70% better chance of success in implantation. I am not sure about this technique. Has anyone gone through PGD, failed or successful?

Like you, My wife is 41 and is going through a similar experience. I am undergoing multiple cycles of IVFs. This hopefully will build up enough embryos to make it easy to test for PGD/PGS. She has just completed hir first cycle and have built up 4 embryos but do not know if they are normal. If a few are normal, the next step would be a FET.

I am 33 and yet to start with IVF. Our infertility specialist has done genetic testing and has found that DH has balanced 3 chromosomes translocation. She says that she has rarely seen this, 2 chromosomes being the usual. However, she has said that when we do start IVF, it will be through PGD as it increases the chances of success.

Hello Loretta, I am 38, just short of your age. Last month I had my 3rd ER. Every time we have gone through ICSI and PGD. This was to make sure that that we could foresee any problem with abnormal embryos. The ICSI was done because my husband had a few morphology issues. As for me FSH and AMH are all good.

I really got a lot of insights going through the experiences of 1 and 2. Hi 1, it is really interesting that you can bank embryos. For me, whether I get one or more embryos tested, it costs the same as I pay per PGD cycle. Hello 2, can you tell me whether it is possible to get around the chromosome abnormality of your DH?

Hi, I am sorry you are going through this. A few friends of mine underwent IVF with PGS NGS at top Polish clinic, and they got pregnant. PGS NGS is usually recommended in case of failed IVF-s, mcs or advanced maternal age. Good luck

I've been told by my MD that PGD does give the greatest implantation success- we have only been through 1 cycle, and didn't have enough embryos to send for PGD- hoping we mature enough with our second cycle to send! Good luck!!

@faithrose From what I have read PGD and PGS NGS dramatically improve the chance of a successful IVF pregnancy.

PGD refers to the screening of viable embryos with genetic defects, typically on a single gene such as with cystic fibrosis. This does not increase success rates, and may actually decrease success rates slightly via the slight risk of biopsy damage and by occasionally preventing the transfer of the best viable embryo because it tested positive for the defective gene.

PGS refers to screening of embryos at the whole chromosome level to eliminate non-viable embryos from potential transfer. This probably increases success rates per transfer, but not per retrieval. It cannot make embryos more viable, and occasionally viable embryos are significantly damaged by the biopsy or are rejected by false positive results. These are believed to be rare outcomes, but must occur sometimes.

All of these risks, and more, should be disclosed on your clinic’s consent forms.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) with IVF has very good success rate. You should try this once. Good Luck.

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a reproductive technology used with IVF to increase chance of pregnancy with genetic diseases. The steps involved in this process are:
Female partner takes medications to stimulate the ovaries to make multiple eggs grow
Eggs are retrieved with a trans-vaginal needle
Eggs are fertilized by sperm using a process called ICSI
Embryos develop in the embryology laboratory for 5-6 days
After 5-6 days, when embryos have reached the blastocyst stage, a few cells that would eventually become placental cells are removed from the outer layer of the embryo. This is called trophectoderm biopsy. Then eggs are tested for abnormalities. The best quality embryo(s) are selected for transfer to the uterus. Thousands of clinical have been performed PGD worldwide, resulting in the birth of hundreds of healthy babies. The procedure does not appear to affect the development of the embryo and subsequent pregnancy or the child once it is born. Hope this may helps you. Good Luck.

Hello Loretta

As you have mentioned you are suffering from various problems and it makes difficult for you to get pregnant. But it is not like that you can't get pregnant. there are many ways & IVF is one of them. But I am wondering, can PGD really works for you because I also underwent IVF and I know few thing about this. Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a reproductive technology used with IVF to increase the chance of pregnancy with genetic diseases. If your problem is genetic then only you should undergo IVF with PGD, otherwise consult to a clinic which will provide you the proper guidance regarding this. At your age, the 70% chance of pregnancy is not possible. Because IVF is greatly affected by age factors. Age is one of the major concern in this treatment. I didn't mean to demoralize you but I am sharing my knowledge about IVF. I might be wrong so I suggest you to consult an expert or a well-known clinic before taking any step. Good Luck.
